Not sure what's going on with Harrison Smith ?

The Vikings haven't released the nature of his illness.

More information is not available on Harrison Smith's specific illness because the Vikings and Smith are respecting his privacy regarding the "personal health issue," as it is not a mental health-related matter. While details remain undisclosed, Smith has publicly confirmed he is making progress from a physical illness, expects a full recovery, and is confident in his return to playing status. The lack of specific information is a way to maintain confidentiality, a common practice in professional sports for non-public health situations.

Jordan mason loses a goal line opp due to procedural penalty.  JJ immediately takes a sack on a weak block by the left tackle.  Then he takes another sack holding the ball.

Result 33 yard FG when the ball was at the 2 yard line.

McCarthy is asss. I expected much more

honestly I bet against him this year.

he didnt look great in camp last year.  got hurt, and then came out this year.   reports I saw were not glowing and the one series I saw in the one game he didnt seem to have the command of the offense I would have liked to see.   He wasnt bad or anything but I felt he just wasnt quite there.

then week 1 came and while he performed well late in the game against a tired defense, most of the game he did not look good.

I didnt see this game as I have sick kids at home but it sure sounds like more of the same.

The kid has potential but likely wont unlock it early in the season.    that was my thought.     he might be good later in the season, but if counting on him to get you to the playoffs..... that might be too late.

I figured the only reliable piece in that offense would be Jefferson.   Because any QB knows if you are gonna succeed, you need to feed your #1 WR.   if you cant get the ball to your #1 WR you dont remain a starter all that long.

He's not exactly been doing so well at that either...

He has bust written all over him

Supporting evidence: Travis Lawrence / Brian Thomas Jr.

you may be right.  but he was a first rounder.  they will likely give him every chance they can.    the alternative is admitting they made a mistake.  not many GM's will admit that publicly.

I'm not saying it's written in stone, or anything close to it. Plenty of good QBs struggled their first two games.

I already thought he was pretty high probability to be a bust for a 1st rd choice any way. He's not done anything to change the perception so far.

Like you said though, he's a 1st rd pick, so he will probably get this entire season to give it a go, unless he really stinks it up.

agreed.

unless he turns into an INT machine (or gets hurt) hes starting for this year.   They may choose to bench hiim for one or two games if he doesnt seem to be progressing or learning.

God damn JJ McCarthy sucked.  I didn't think he was all that great, but I didn't think he would be lost out there 75% of the time.

Both the Falcons and Vikings have Qb problems.

well, the Vikings have a good defense.   so I'm willing to give the Falcons a pass on offense.

but the Falcons D isnt supposed to be that good.    so thats a bit concerning.

My favorite stat from the game: McCarthy's QBR was 37.5. If he had thrown every pass into the ground it would have been 39.6. OUCH

You must be thinking of week 1 when he did play decently for 1 quarter.  Yesterday, he was pretty much lost 100% of the time.
