From People

According The New York Times, who was the first to report the actor's death, Redford died at his home outside Provo on Tuesday morning. No cause of death was given, but Berger told the outlet in a statement that he died in his sleep.

A leading Hollywood heartthrob at his peak in the 1970s, Redford had talent to back up his good looks. His decades-long career earned him a Best Actor Academy Awardnomination for 1973's The Sting, the Best Director award for 1980's Ordinary People and another Best Director nomination for 1994's Quiz Show.

"I've spent most of my life just focused on the road ahead, not looking back," Redford said in the acceptance speech for his 2002 honorary Oscar. "But now tonight, I'm seeing in the rearview mirror that there is something I've not thought about much, called history."

I was working at a catering company on the side at nights bartending. It paid great for side money and I got laid after every shift, every night, mostly tourist in town, and I made some friends on the staff. So one night I was working bar for them at the Marriott. Before the event started I needed to go downstairs to get something out of the truck. Im on the service elevator and it stops and Redpockface gets on and his possessions tells me to catch the next elevator and get the fawk off. I went to say “Fawk you arsehole!” and the goon threw me off on the next floor. I shot him the bird and he laughed and I got even later that night.

A movie that didn't get much hype was "Spy Games". Really cool movie. Brad Pitt was in it, but Redford owned it.

Highly recommended.

So sad to hear this, a key player in 3 of my all time favorite movies:

As an actor: The Sting

As a director: Quiz Show, Ordinary People

I had to google to even remember which of his movies I really liked. I was thinking his work as a director was better, but the only one of his directorial efforts I really love is Ordinary People. The Sting, The Natural, Butch & Sundance, 3 Days of the Condor were good. All the President's Men was great.

Turns out, Redford doesn't do much for me. I'm more of a Newman guy.

Disclaimer: Just because I don't love Redford doesn't mean I'm disrespecting a dead man. Don't arrest me!
