1) People are upset with Trump and voted against him and his Party.

2) People love Trump so much.....that they'll vote for him when he's on the ballot...but if they don't see that name; they don't care.

As a centrist, I think if a MAGA person is dismissing these elections as a "math" problem then they're an idiot.  People just aren't happy with Donald Trump right now.  It will be interesting to see if he tones it down a bit for the mid-terms.

We had it here with Roy Moore.  At least Roy Moore lost.  We had people justifying voting for him for a variety of reasons.  It's funny when the sides flip, people's morality changes.  The truth is becoming more and more that the dominant party in a state can nominate the most despicable person and they will still win the general due to the polarization of our politics.

So I was way off on the margin of Mamdani’s victory. Everything else is pretty much as I predicted. Big night for Democrats, no real surprises. 
 

Again I want to stress- none of this means the country is moving to the left. We remain pretty much a center right nation. Tonight is a rejection of Trump overreaching.

Looks that way right now. But a year is a long time: 

1. if Trump manages somehow to bring down inflation everything is different. 

2. If Trump relaxes his tariffs everything is different. 

3. If Trump relaxed what ICE is doing everything could be different. 

However I don’t think any of these things are going to happen. I think Trump will double down, and look for distractions (war is possible) and try to paint every Democrat as a Mamdani socialist. And I think it will all blow up in his face.

At this point I think the house is gone. It always flips in midterms and his majority is like 2. Only thing that saves that is some crazy gerrymandering.

Texas started it. That's the precedence. Just because there are more red states doesn't mean Alaska will out-gerrymander California and New York.

And at least California took it to a vote instead of just doing it like Texas did.
