Royals Announce Two-Year Contract with Salvador Perez

The Kansas City Royals tonight announced a two-year contact agreement with catcher Salvador Perez through the 2027 season. “Salvy is a Royals legend and one of the most important players this franchise has ever had,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager J.J. Picollo. “We had the option for next year, but everyone knew we wanted to make sure his legacy with us continued longer than that. We appreciate Salvy’s commitment to the Royals, and we’re just as excited as our fans.” Perez, 35, is a nine-time All-Star, five-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, five-time Silver Slugger Award winner, the 2015 World Series Most Valuable Player and the 2024 Roberto Clemente Award winner. In 2023, Perez was named the fourth Captain in franchise history.

I like the idea of guys remaining loyal with one team.   

 

Source: Salvador Perez's new contract with the #Royals is worth a guaranteed $25 million over the two years. There's a signing bonus and some deferred money within the contract, but it essentially works out to $12.5 million a year.

Orioles acquire Taylor Ward from Angels for Grayson Rodriguez Alden Gonzalez Nov 18, 2025, 10:55 PM ET The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Taylor Ward from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for right-hander Grayson Rodriguez on Tuesday night, an intriguing one-for-one swap that filled clear needs for both teams. The Orioles went into the offseason seeking a power-hitting outfielder and get one in Ward, who is entering his final season before free agency. The Angels sought a top-of-the-rotation starter and hope to get one in Rodriguez, a once-promising prospect who spent the 2025 season sidelined by injury. Advertising Rodriguez, a 26-year-old whose contract allows the team four more years of control, was drafted No. 11 overall out of high school in 2018 and showed promise in his first two seasons in the big leagues, posting a 4.11 ERA with 259 strikeouts against 78 walks in 238⅔ innings from 2023 to 2024. But an elbow injury popped up in spring training of 2025, then reemerged in the summer and ultimately led to debridement surgery to remove bone chips, preventing him from pitching all season. Rodriguez, though, is expected to be ready for spring training. Ward, who will turn 32 next month, was drafted 26th overall as a catcher in 2015, then transitioned to third base and found a home in left field. His biggest adjustment, though, was overhauling his swing to tap into a patient-yet-powerful approach, one that fully manifested itself over these past two seasons. From 2024 to 2025, Ward slashed .237/.320/.450 with 61 home runs and 178 RBIs while ranking 25th among 316 hitters in chase rate.

My take… Grayson was expected to significantly contribute last year and is why the Orioles didn’t do much in FA with pitching. With him not being there, hopefully they have plans this year.
I fully expect Grayson to win multiple CY’s and WS’s. 
Taylor Ward is an above average OF, but not a significant piece of the roster. At this point, I predict another year slightly below .500.
