Never seent it, but my understanding is that Christmas didn't have anything to do with the plot.  It could have taken place any time of year.

Nope, we meet Riggs for the first time at a Christmas Tree lot, those are only around durning  Xmas, don't see them in July.

Not enough.  Still part of the backdrop.  We could have met him anywhere and the story would still take place.

You could say that about anything.  You can change the BKG music to something else at the beginning, sure, but they were in an XMAS TREE lot, a bad guy was hiding in the trees.  Without those trees, that guys isn't hiding, you can't do that at a fireworks stand, not getting turkeys, or at a bar drinking green beer. This is a Xmas movie, done.

Full disclosure, for a lot of the thread I actually thought we were talking about Die Hard, because that debate is as old as time.    I'd never heard it applied to Lethal Weapon. 

But I haven't seent Lethal Weapon either. 🫣

I'm the only one that drafted Mel Gibson character but those two movies are as good as Die Hard. Other ones 3 and 4 are decent but Bro you got to watch the first two!  Who doesn't like a movie about a Suicidal Cop ?
