Rock & Roll HOF...why?

Recommended Posts

Why is Pantera not in the rock and roll HOF?  Literally one of most influential bands in that era.   Elite guitarist in Dimebag.  Pioneers of "groove metal".

Any BS act gets in.  Why not these guys??

Because they are still going.  In addition to the 25 year rule they judge longevity and body of achievement.  Ozzy, a slam dunk for example, wasn't put in until a few months before he died because he never could quit.  While then defunct Sabbath was in almost 20 years earlier.

That's and they keep going pop.

Agree they should get in.  Eventually.

I guess I dont pay attention enough.   Didnt realize you have to be about over to get in.  They have been "over for a bit".  I mean their soul was shot and killed in mid 90s.

That's just my guess.  Not sure what happens when you rotate through quite a bit of members.   Might hurt your chances in the end.

Ill put Pantera against any "metal" band for a short prime.

Ozzy himself said he put one of their albums top 10 all time metal.

Idk Pantera was focking good.  Dimebag gets rated but is still underrated.

This isn't the reason as Metallica was enshrined in 2009...

Also, for example, Def Leppard was enshrined in 2019...

Interesting.  Is it different for individuals I wonder?   The Ozzy doc I mentioned above pretty much said that's why he was on his deathbed at his induction.

I have no idea to be honest...  I think it is just 25 years after the first album release, so solo Ozzy wouldn't be eligible after Black Sabbath, due to debut release dates...

If you think Pantera should be in, Iron Maiden would like a word.

It sounds like because of Jann Wenner's intense influence over nominations and admissions the process is overly political. Stupid, but predictable.

AC/DC in 2003, Prince in 2004...

Longevity's a consideration but not a determining factor.

I don't think it was the last 2 albums that put Ozzy over the top. I could be wrong, they're phenomenal. .

That new Ozzy doc on Paramount+ is pretty damn good, especially if you're not familiar with his last years.

Yea I read Last Rites and most of it is in that Paramount doc. Which it was good if a fan.

Baloney. The Foo Fighters got in, and they're still going.

Bob Dylan is in, and he's still going.

I was always the young kid in the neighborhood playing basketball or backyard football with older kids.  Many were more Pantera era than me but that was a bit of the athem then.  So always had a love for them even if im not some huge fan.   One guy who was 5 years older was one of the better athletes in our schools history.  I golf with him now.  He says yea all those good football teams we had Id blast Pantera in our lockroom or bus ride.

I wish the hall would give more recognition to the punk rock that had a massive influence on music, bands such as X, Black Flag, The Germs, etc.

The Replacements and Husker Du belong in.

Hell, Robert Plant as a solo artist deserves to be in.

A lot of good stuff that isnt in so not like Pantera is a travesty.   Just caught me off guard they werent knowing many are.  I mean the 2 founders have died one many years ago. Seems like its not too early for consideration haha.  I dont care about that HOF and we all largely make fun of it but I was surprised.

Add Mission of Burma  to influential bands . For their work with manipulating tapes alone . Totally agree about Huske and the mats

Damn @FrancieFootball sounds like an old Mpls punk touting those two bands. Ironically, despite my roots, neither of those bands are among my favorites of the genre, though both are excellent and influential. Musta been born a bit too late.

Add the Misfits, the Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, and NOFX to the list of hallowed punk bands deserving of a spot in RRHOF. I was heartened when MC5 got in, though feel there were more worthy choices.

Anyone been to the punk rock museum in Vegas? I don’t have much desire to ever go back to LV other than that and maybe to catch a show at the Sphere.

Great, great record!

Man, I have no idea what my favorite punk album is. I'd have to give that serious consideration.

I think the Butth0le Surfers belong in. They produced the album after album of some the most original, out-of-box music in rock history and even had a couple of hits and hit albums along the way.

What the hell is Stevie Nicks doing in there over Robert Plant?
