Cancun Cruz at it again

Recommended Posts

Back in 2021, he fled Texas for Cancun while his state dealt with the worst winter weather it had ever seen, with massive power outages.

With severe winter weather headed our way again, here he is jetting off for Laguna Beach, Calif.

Why not?  If congress is not in session why not vacation in a warm weather site.  It is not as if a congressman has any responsibilities in a weather event.  that is handled by state and local govenments.  In the extremely rare instances where weather becomes a federal matter he still has no role.  The Governor has a role or asking for federal assistance.  I mean it is not as if the fat, doughy congressman is going to be driving a plow clearing streets or restoring power.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Cruz admitted he was wrong for leaving Texas during the severe winter weather in 2021. The public absolutely hammered him for it.

Now he's getting clobbered again.

It's a terrible look, and you're wrong about him having no responsibility in a weather event.

AI Overview
Yes, a U.S. Congressman can request federal disaster aid on behalf of constituents and their communities, often by advocating for disaster declarations, helping residents navigate FEMA, and supporting legislation for supplemental funding, though the primary request for a Presidential declaration comes from the Governor or Tribal Chief Executive. Congressional offices provide crucial support by coordinating federal efforts, informing survivors of aid, and potentially introducing bills for specific relief or reforms, working alongside the formal process under the Stafford Act.

Not surprising that a MAGA like you would think it's OK for an elected official to flee his state for warmer weather while his constituents suffer back home.

I have been called many things, but never a MAGA.  Fortunately I don't put any stock in your opinions or conclusions, so there is that.

It's not a good look for a congressman to run away from potentially catastrophic weather events that affect millions of people, and I proved beyond a reasonable doubt that you were wrong about what a congressman can do regarding weather-related disaster aid.

But if you want to admire an entitled coward with no common sense, be my guess.

Why is Gavin in Davos with all the problems in California?

You argued he has a publicity/political role to save his own reputation.  You pointed out that he has an ancillary role which comes into play long after the event, not during the event.  And you pointed out that his office can spread redundant information, information which will be spread by the state and local governments.  None of that was really pertinent to my main point, but you are correct.  I did not drill down to the essentially irrelevant while making the relevant point.  As for me being MAGA or admiring the man, you are mistaken in the extremis, but have it your way.  I really knew better than to engage with you and are now done doing so.  The last word is yours.  Have at it.

One is a governor and one is a Senator.  A Senator is not the chief executive of a state like a Governor

In several ways it's better if he's not there.

But this is Ted Cruz's brand, so he's going with it. And he's going to do it in resort style. It's kind of a no lose situation for Ted.

Other than the fact that we need term limits because a Senator shouldn't have a brand, let alone one where he enriches himself and laughs about it on his podcast.

What are an absolute bizarre thing to worry about much less start a thread over. Again I’m often surprised some of you. Liberals can even functionally make it through a full day. It’s a really quite remarkable.

By the way, can you link me to your thread about Karen Bass leaving during the wildfires? Just post it anywhere in here that would be great. Thank you.
