Vikings QB Battle

Recommended Posts

I'm in a 2 QB league so I'm trying to think of later rd pickups at the position. And with Norval at the helm the Vikings QB position would be a nice qb3 to have in a premium position in this format. Cassel has def earned the week 1 starting job as he has looked solid and played the part well. But Bridgewater looked solid in 2nd half last night with game winning drive and good stats albeit vs the scrub Defenses out there but still. Any homers out there have any thoughts on the player to pick outta these two? I may just roll with the one who goes later in the draft if I can't pin it down by draft day.

Teddy Bilgewater will be a monumental BUST ... mark it :bandana:

if he is even still in the league in two years time, his nickname will be Teddy "Clipboard" - AVOID this dude

as per your specific predicament, sure ... Cassel fits the parameters - remember DBowe's great season a few years back? it was mostly Cassel tossing to him ... no world beater by any stretch, but worth the gamble for qb3

I beg to differ with above naysayers. Vikings O will be very good this year. Norv is great coordinator and they have weapons all over the place (AP, Patterson, Jennings, Rudolph, Wright, even the Rookie McKinnon). By all accounts Cassel will lead the team this year. He has looked sharp and the first team O has looked in sync and crisp already. And this without AP, who probably won't play a snap this pre-season. We all remember what Cassel did in NE when he had good coaching and weapons. And calling Teddy a bust after 2 pre-season games is hilarious. Dude is a football player, as many know. He's gonna' be a good one IMO, just not this year. Cassel as a #2 QB is not a bad choice at all, especially if it's a 12+ team league. 4000/25 not out of the questions at all.

I don't see Cassel being one of the top 24 QBS.

I'm with you man. That's why I started this thread bc I'm specifically gonna target the Vikes qb for the above stated reasons. And I am sure Cassel is my guy now. Thanks brother

None of you putzez knows a damn thing about how Teddy's career will go. Here's the bottom line.

% chance he starts week 1? 0

% chance he makes 1 or more start this year? 100

Just shut up and let him play a few games before you decide he's going to be a bust.

I like the Vikes... I'd be targeting Patterson as a super sleeper, having seen what Norvell did with Josh Gordon last season. The kid is a beast, 6-2 220 lbs with sub 4.40 speed... Yikes. I look for the veteran Cassel to seize that job, and what gives him a credible chance is the Vikes Offensive Line, which is way underrated. As a run blocking crew, they allowed Toby friggin Gerhart to rush for over 7 ypc. Peterson is going to give Cassel a solid play-action option, and as stated in above posts they have some weapons.

Add to that a porous bottom 10 defense and that's a nice mix.

you mean the super sleeper with an ADP in the 4th rnd range?

If Brian Hoyer looked legit in that offense with literally no RB and Gordon and Cameron only I'm pretty Cassel with a better o line, best RB in the game, and a legit threat in Patterson and Rudolph with Jennings on the outside will be a mid tier qb2 at worse

it's adorbs to see all the Teddy fanboys getting their panties bunched because someone called their mancrush a bust ... you guys are so cute

btw, i never said he'd bust based on the 2 preseason games, nor based on a very dodgy camp thus far ... simply not a believer in his "talent" transferring to the pro level ... comprende, cupcakes? :music_guitarred: HTH.

that being said, i do like some value in that offense, but ... the way Patterson and Rudolph will be shooting up the draft charts is gonna kill some of it for both of them ... in PPR, think Jennings at wr3 is better value than Patterson at wr2, given the latter's ever rising price tag.

As long as he's healthy, Cassel will start and be a top 15 QB this season. The reason Cassel will start over Bridgewater is twofold: 1. Cassel fits into and knows Norv's offense very well (Norv wanted him in Cleveland), and two, the Vikings will do everything to avoid last year's musical QB mess.

What's more, Cassel has got a lot of RAC weapons to pad his stats. Patterson will take 5 yard passes to the house and Peterson will catch more balls than he ever has. And with a MOR defense, a decent offensive line and Jennings and Rudolph contributing, this offense will be top third.

I'm not an ADP honk being an auction guy, but yeah I'll stick to my statement. Most pubs have this kid in the deep 20's. I see some fantastic potential for him to have an eye opening year similar to Gordon's last year. Let's revisit comment in a couple months shall we?

what comment are we revisiting? All I am saying is hes not a super sleeper. Even in an auction hes still going to be valued as a WR 2

No doubt, and appreciate the conversation. I see massive upside for this kid, to the point he could be this years Josh Gordon. He's got better skills after the catch, he's big, he's probably faster, he's got the SAME OC Gordon worked with, the Vikes have a vet QB with a strong O line and a hall of famer at RB, and the defense will be putrid. That's a perfect storm if Norvell can refine the kid's game some.

I'm not talking ADP value, I'm probably not versed in snake draft strategies much anymore. Snake... Auction... Doesn't matter. I'm talking a breakout year bigtime for this kid. I know super sleepers are supposed to have like a 12th round ADP, I suppose I'm referring more to shock value as a top performer.

You expect CPat to be the #1 WR on a pergame basis? I like him just fine but that's pretty optimistic IMO.

Blame the stupid experts who want to play hardball now with ranking players based on not just last year's production but based on what could happen this year mirroring past players in said position(Moreno/Ball).

I disagree. He will be serviceable, but there are just too many good qbs out there for him to beat out.

It's all about the weapons. When you consider Andy Dalton was top 3 last year, it's really not a crazy thing to think Cassel will be top 15. Mark my words...he'll go undrafted but become one of the hottest free agents 2, 3, 4 weeks in.

QBs are deep as hell this year, but with all those weapons and a much more pass-happy system, I see Cassel pitching his tent in the Wilson, Roethlisberger, Dalton neighborhood this year. He'll finish ahead of some much bigger names.

I love the kids potential, but it's hard to envision that he's made the jump from the raw guy I saw last year to a legitimate real world #1 WR.

If and when I take Cassel as a qb2 or qb3 in my case in dual qb league I will take Greg Jennings 8-10 rds later and call it a day
