The whiff of controversy has long surrounded WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, but, according to a new report, he just reeks.
Assange's lack of cleanliness was reportedly one of the reasons behind Ecuador's recent attempts to extricate him from his five-year standoff in its embassy in London, the International Business Times reported.
“It seems he doesn’t wash properly,” a highly placed source told the news outlet. The issue prompted repeated complaints from staff at the UK embassy, according to the report.
The WikiLeaks founder has been holed up at the embassy in Knightsbridge since 2012 and was recently granted Ecuadorean citizenship.
The IBT report emerged after Britain rejected Ecuador's application to assign the 46-year-old diplomatic status.
Others have complained of Assange’s questionable hygiene practices in the past.
“Julian ate everything with his hands and he always wiped his fingers on his pants. I have never seen pants as greasy as his in my whole life,” one of his closest aides, Daniel Domscheit-Berg, told IBT.
Jérémie Zimmermann, a friend and former colleague, wrote in 2012 that “unless the people around him force him to shower, he might not change his clothes for days.”
U.S. officials told IBT that arresting Assange remains a priority, but would not confirm whether the government would request his extradition should he be arrested in the U.K.
An intellectually disabled teenage girl was suspended by Brooklyn school officials in 2016 after she reported being gang-raped by a group of male students, according to a federal lawsuit.
The suit, obtained by the Daily News, states the girl, 15, who asked not to be identified, has an IQ of 71 and had no disciplinary record at the Teachers Preparatory High School when she was suspended after reporting a group of male students forced her to perform oral sex.
The alleged incident occurred Feb. 5, 2016, when the girl was surrounded by seven male students while walking in one of the school’s hallways on her way to meet with a teacher, the suit stated. One of the students allegedly grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into a stairwell where she was forced to perform oral sex on two of the students.
The girl told school officials about the alleged assault six days later -- but she was suspended after a 24-hour investigation for “engaging in sexual activity at school” when officials determined the interaction was consensual, according to the lawsuit.
"My client is a 15-year-old girl of color on public assistance with a severe developmental disorder who was gang raped at her Brooklyn school and then suspended for it," said Carrie Goldberg, the attorney representing the girl.
It was not immediately clear if any of the male students reportedly involved were suspended. One of the students was arrested and charged with “sexual misconduct and sexual assault” but it was not clear if he was tried, found guilty or sentenced due to the case being sealed.
The Daily News reported officials eventually “reversed the suspension” but the girl said she remained traumatized by the incident. The suit alleged the girl suffered from anger issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, hair loss, anxiety and failure to sleep.
School officials did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.
According to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, three years ago the Obama Administration warned the Iranian government that Israel was about to assassinate Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force, the overseas arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, in Damascus.
Al-Jarida asserts that the incident “sparked a sharp disagreement between the Israeli and American security and intelligence apparatuses regarding the issue."
The Quds force has provided military assistance to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza; Soleimani was designated as a supporter of terrorism by the State Department in 2007 for his connections to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which was outspoken about wanting to proliferate ballistic missiles capable of carrying WMDs.
The State Department asserted that the Quds Force itself supported terrorism, writing, “The Qods Force, a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC; aka Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps), provides material support to the Taliban, Lebanese Hizballah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC).” Last August, Brig. Gen. Ismail Ghaani, the deputy commander of the Quds Force, bragged that his operatives had killed more Americans than U.S. troops had killed Iranian fighters.
As Kenneth R. Timmerman, executive director of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran which works to support democratic movements in Iran, has written of Soleimani, "After Osama bin Laden, he has more American blood on his hand than any terrorist. It’s time we shut him down for good."
A former Virginia high school sign language interpreter and mother was sentenced to prison Thursday for having sex with a 15-year-old student in a van specially equipped with a bed, officials said.
Amanda Nasser, 32, who worked at Louisa County High School, was sentenced to 90 years in prison, but had all of the time except for seven years suspended, FOX5DC reported. She was convicted of 18 felony charges of indecent liberties with a minor and computer solicitation of a minor.
“Ms. Nasser abandoned her duties at the school to prey on a young boy whom she met when she was employed as a sign language interpreter at the local high school. These convictions send a clear message that such predatory behavior will be met with swift and severe repercussions,” Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney, Rusty E. McGuire, said in a statement.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Joshua C. Loren added the student “will be forever scarred” by the sexual encounter. Loren mentioned Nasser’s children, but did not go into further detail about her family.
Nasser was arrested in September 2016 after authorities uncovered hundreds of text messages to a high school freshman, KTRE reported.
“Nasser immediately turned the conversation to sexual innuendo. During the sexually explicit chats, Nasser even sent nude pictures of herself to the minor and solicited sex from the minor on several occasions,” police said in a news release at the time.
The former high school teacher then suggested she befriend the teenager’s mother so she could “gain access” to the boy outside of school hours.
Nasser initially denied her sexual relationship with the student, but then confessed to “soliciting sex” through text message. She picked him up in her bed-equipped van at least four times and had sex with him, according to KTRE.
Nasser was described as a “dangerous predator who groomed and took advantage of a child.” She faced up to 230 years in prison.
