Brewers Pitcher Ejected for Foreign Substance

Recommended Posts

Will Smith apparently likes to smear a mixture of sunscreen and rosin on his glove arm so he can "grip the ball" not to make it dance or anything

Guess he should be suspended 4 games and the BrewCrew lose some draft picks.

It is pretty common knowledge that most pitchers do something like this, probably as many as QBs who fock with the ball inflation. But, see, it's just not a big deal. You get tossed and that's it.

Did he lie when confronted, blame others, deny ever knowing about sunscrfeen or that rosin existed?

Did he refuse to give access to his arm, glove, or did his organization refuse access in some way? How many balls did he do this to? Did he pretend to have no knowledge of the rule and yet be someone who actively proposed as supported that rule? Just trying to see how relevant this is.

What difference does it make? It's a minor offense, just like under- or over-inflating a football is.

He did say he put it on in the bullpen then forgot to take it off before he came out

Did he sneak into the umpires room when nobody was looking and put the substance on balls, pregame?

Also I was unaware that Will Smith played in the NFL. :dunno:

I'm sure when it does you will ignore all the findings and statements and substitute your own and then argue they are real no matter how many times people show you they are not.

Again, no, because it is a common occurrence. Most pitchers have something on the ball, just like every NFL team doctors their balls the way they want them.

You guys should write a book: The Lies we tell ourselves to justify cheating.

you don't think it's a little odd that NFL teams can do whatever they want to the ball except fock with the air? Or that when baseball players fock with the ball they just get tossed from the game and that's it? Serious questions.

I'm not saying Brady shouldn't be punished, but the severity and scale of outrage are just ridiculous.

Again, let me know when a pitcher hires guys to sneak into the umpire's dressing room and switches out legal baseballs for illegal ones to give him an advantage during the game.

There's no lying about it. Umpire noticed something was wrong, walked out to the pitchers mound, and caught him red handed. Not a big deal as most pitchers do mess with the ball just like all Qbs mess with the ball.

Bringing out an old favorite  That one never gets old, maybe Th*masina should consider spraying that stuff on the footballs? Maybe he already did, not that he knows anything about the footballs of course ;)

I'll try again.

I'm not saying Brady shouldn't be punished. But does no one else think the severity of the penalty and scale of outrage is not completely out of proportion to the actual offense he committed? I actually find it mind boggling!

How is it not just a one game suspension and maybe a fine? It doesn't matter if he lied about it. The underlying offense is minor. And why is the team allowed to scuff the balls up but not let a pound of air out?

When pitchers get thrown out for doctoring the ball, they lie about it too, but they still just get tossed and that's it.

Like if a WR got busted with stickum on his gloves, I'd expect him to be thrown out of the game and that's it. I just don't get it.

He will be suspended as others have been for that infraction.

But what other qbs alter the ball after inspection?

I suspect he likely would have faced a single game suspension had he not lied, or pretended to not know anything about the occurence, had he cooperated a bit more, and not been so smug about it. I think the eventual outcome was a result of the offense and also too the attempt to deny, lie and obfuscate.

I know....I know....you see, he cheated....so he is being punished. Cheating is wrong, so the people who want the game to be played fairly and cleanly, punished him for it. Take some time with this, let it settle in.

8 games in baseball is like 1 game in football. His spot in the rotation will come up maybe twice before he's back out there. Remember baseball players play over 100 games in a season.

He's a reliever and I think he had the most appearances in baseball last year, so maybe 3 or 4 innings...so it's more like he would be missing a quarter in a football game. More for the Patriot fans to  about.

Factors in the decision:

Brady's refusal to cooperate

Pat's not allowing Wells to talk to McNally a second time

The Patriots press conferences, complete with flat out lying

The Patriots history of cheating

I suspect that a pitcher caught cheating multiple times will face a lengthier suspension each time.
