TV recommendations

Recommended Posts

Turned on the TV and there was a pop and the screen went dark. Time to get a new one.

Recommendations?

I've had a Samsung and love it. My dad got a Samsung curved tv and it had already went out within a year. Usually a Vizio though has been good. I haven't had problems with Samsung yet (knock on wood)

I have three Samsung TVs, washer and dryer, fridge, and microwave. I've never had any problem with any of them.

Me either. I think my dad might've just gotten a bad one

So how is the curved TV vs the flat? Worth it?

It's alright. If you're on the side of the room looking at it then the curve makes it a little difficult to see the entire screen. Directly infront of it it looks good

I'm a big fan of projection TVs. Those are starting to get really good. Amazon has a $700 Epson that's 1080 and has 3D capability.

I have had good luck with Samsung. Keep an eye on slickdeals. They just had a 50 inch Samsung 1080p 120 hz refresh for $420 plus $125 Dell gift card, so basically like 300 bucks. I almost bought but I don't need it.

I have no experience with 4k but I don't think much is even broadcast in 4k yet.

Vizio fans, have you had any picture lag when watching golf. I notice when the camera is on the ball in flight, after a drive, faint duplicate balls trail the real ball. Anybody else experience this? I've had the TV for well over a year and it doesn't bother me much but was just curious if anybody else experienced the same.

Verizon gives you a 50 inch Samsung tv for free if you sign up with them. Nobody wants those anymore. Too small for grown ups amd kids don't care about a TV anymore. Tablets.

It is amazing how much the prices have come down. When the battle was between plasma and lcd like an idiot I spent 2500 bucks on a 55 in Panasonic plasma. I still have it and when it's on it's like having the heat on.

I spent about 2500 on my 55 inch LED Samsung tv. It was top of the line a couple years ago. Now it's not but dam the picture still rivals that of the new ones that are out now. I'm still happy with the tv I've got now but wouldn't mind a bigger one. My old 47 inch LCD tv is in our bedroom but it's a good 7 years old. Would love to upgrade but the wife would rather buy boring things like new furniture

That sounds like a refresh rate issue. If you have a low refresh rate, you will see the ball sort of "skipping" across the screen. Happens with a football too.

It used to be worse with European golf because of the broadcasts.

I have 4 Samsung TVs. 46in 1080p LCD is 7 years old, and still looks great, paid $1500. Just got a 40in 4K Ultra HD. Its pretty sweet, $600 at Best Buy, paying in installments just cause. Can't go wrong with Samsung imo. These are good recommendations.

Don't get a refresh rate below 120hz, and that is different that Samsungs clear motion rate. A lot of people get fooled by this and have a substandard refresh rate of 60hz. Samsung tvs on a lot of their advertisements rarely post the refresh rate unless it is 120 or above.

1080 if your TV is above 40 inches, but a smaller TV can create a fine image with 780 believe it or not.

Samsung or Vizio

I wasnot talking to you millennial boy. You might have heard from old guys like me, but in case you haven't I'll fill you in: It's not all about you. And there are better ways to get the attention you crave than worn out smartass remarks. But go ahead and pay 300 bucks for a TV that is basically being given away like a toaster at a bank. Enjoy. I have some TD bank green pens for sale if you want. I'll give you a geek club discount.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a 46 inch Samsung similar to the $749 one hoyt listed and I think I paid around $1100 for it just 3 years ago or so.

Samsung is good.

I've had issues with the sound on Vizio but if you're going to use a sound system then it'l doesn't matter
