posty 2,873 Posted March 6, 2009 http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/...unning-in-2012/ WASHINGTON (CNN) – Newt Gingrich is talking out loud about a possible run for the White House in 2012. “Calista and I will look seriously, and we'll probably get our family totally engaged, including our two grandchildren, probably in January 2011, and we'll look seriously at whether or not we think its necessary to do it,” Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Virginia last night, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it,” he said. “And if it isn’t necessary we probably won't do it.” The former House Speaker told the New York Times magazine something similar in a profile published over the weekend. “I think I’m closer to Benjamin Franklin than to George Washington,” Gingrich told the magazine. “I’m a contributor to my country and to my times. If it turns out that there’s a moment when it makes sense to run, then I’ll run. But if I end up never being able to run, then it won’t devastate me.” Gingrich briefly flirted with the idea of running for president in 2007, telling supporters that if he could raise $30 million in a three-week period he would enter the race, but ultimately decided against entering the race. Though he’s mulling a run, Gingrich said it may be time to pass the torch to younger crop of leaders. He told the Times-Dispatch that he sees the Republican Party “moving towards a whole new generation” and predicted that Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the House Minority Whip, is on the path to becoming Speaker of the House.

KSB2424 3,175 Posted March 6, 2009 What a primary that would be. Rush v. Palin, the debate. With Joe the Plumber v. Ann Coulter in the VP debate. Your post makes no sense. So back to Newt. Considering all the other people talked about, I like Newt the best. He seems to always make sense when speaking on a subject. I need to get aquainted with him a little more but I would love to seem him be at least an option for the GOP. He will be in his late 60's by 2012 but that is fairly young in this day in age. I do like this about him: In late 2008, Gingrich voiced his strong opposition to allowing American taxpayers to bail out several failing financial institutions. He described the $700 billion bailout plan as "just wrong" and that "it's likely to fail, and it's likely to make the situation worse over time I would much rather him run than the Sarah freakin' Palin's of the party. No way she smells the nomination.
Brad GLuckman 519 Posted March 6, 2009 The Media ruined any chance he had...too bad because he would be exactly what this country needs. I'm a very pro-Gingrich guy, and with the current situation and seeing more of a need for him every day. Some highlights from our unbiased media: So how do you put an end to what Jim Wright called mindless cannibalism? Do you put a muzzle on Newt Gingrich?" -- CBS's Kathleen Sullivan, June 1, 1989. "I think he's looking at a more scientific, more civil way of lynching people." -- NPR reporter Sunni Khalid on C-SPAN, October 14, 1994. "Rejecting the House's gentlemanly ways, he waged such constant guerilla war against the Democrats he was attacked for McCarthyism...bombastic and ruthless." -- CBS's Eric Engberg, November 2, 1994. "[His] slash-and-burn rhetoric against Democrats has made him the poster boy for political resentment and rage." -- ABC's Jim Wooten, November 4, 1994. "RADICAL GEEK." -- Newsweek caption under picture of young Newt, November 7. "A lot of people are afraid of you. They think you're a bomb-thrower. Worse, you're an intolerant bigot. Speak to them." -- ABC's Sam Donaldson, November 13, 1994. "For pianos and parsleys, peanuts and pajamas/Why he'd even take kiddies away from their mamas/The Gingrich said things that Whos thought were shocking/He'd take back each present and empty each stocking." -- CBS's Charles Osgood, December 11, 1994. "Uncle Scrooge: Tis the season to bash the poor. But is Newt Gingrich's America really that heartless?" -- Time cover, December 19, 1994. "How the Gingrich Stole Christmas!" -- Newsweek cover, December 26, 1994/January 2, 1995 issue. "You called Gingrich and his ilk 'trickle-down terrorists who base their agenda on division, exclusion, and fear.' Do you think middle-class Americans are in need of protection from that group?" -- NBC's Bryant Gumbel to ###### Gephardt, January 4, 1995. "These are some of the things said about your son. A very dangerous man... visionary...bomb-throwing guerrilla warrior...abrasive." -- CBS's Connie Chung to Newt's mother on his first day as Speaker, January 4, 1995. "To most African-Americans, Newt Gingrich is one scary white man." -- Time's Jack E. White, Jan. 16, 1995. "Newt Gingrich's Contract with America signal a radical shift...that may bode ill for the health of snail darters, spotted owls, and even the human species." -- Time's ###### Thompson, February 27, 1995. "The poster child for Republican extremism." -- NPR's Mara Liasson, November 12, 1995. "Newt Gingrich teaching manners is like Charles Manson teaching nonviolence." -- Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, November 18, 1995. "The pompous thug of late-night cable." -- Time article naming Gingrich 1995 Man of the Year. "Newt Gingrich seems like some crazy guy. A car bomber who wants to blow the country up! With that sort of idiot grin on his face!" -- ABC pundit Chris Matthews, December 27, 1995. "What will turn on -- or turn off -- the voters in 1996?...The Gingrich who stole Medicare?" -- New York Times writer Peter Passell, January 2, 1996. "Gingrich was no longer amusing as Newt the Menace, and now was seen as the Bad Seed." -- Time's 1996 Year in Review book. "He's like Lenin. They both made a revolution by shooting people -- Newt shot Democrats, Lenin shot everybody-- and then they didn't have enough sense to stop shooting once they'd won." -- ABC's Sam Donaldson, January 8, 1997. "The speaker will forever remain his own caricature -- a Dennis the Menace meets Darth Vader kind of guy. A fellow, for instance, who wants to give all children in America laptops but take away their free school lunches." -- Gloria Borger in U.S. News, April 7, 1997. WahooJim 4 Posted March 6, 2009 I say this in all seriousness. I know that we are all fed up, flush to the gills with political maneuvering, lying, influence peddling from our elected representatives. We demand accountability and transparency. No more political Business as Usual. I spend way too much time being pissed off lately because I'm so concerned our country is on the wrong path. Newt is a brilliant man and a true conservative that has proven he can get things done and move forward with an agenda that agrees with my ideals. BUT THE GUY STILL BROKE RULES and CHEATED and LIED and has NO PERSONAL ETHICS! We can't ###### about accountability/ethics then support someone who has proven he is a scumbag. Makes me sad, Newt may be the perfect guy for the job, but I will never again support his candidacy because he broke the trust. Yeah, I'm being naive, but real change has to start somewhere and it won't ever occur unless we DEMAND IT with our voting power. Rant over, I'm going fishing. Yeah, I'm being naive, but real change has to start somewhere and it won't ever occur unless we DEMAND IT with our voting power. Rant over, I'm going fishing. Yup. It was clear he was trying to make a run when Dobson endorsed him and not McCain - and a week before, Gingrich admitted on Dobson's (Focus on the Family) show that he cheated on his wife at the same time he was exhorting Clinton for his adultery. People weren't quite as forgiving as he had hoped. It was a wierd election cycle. Teh only guy who hadn't been a serial adulterer was the Black democrat. Edwards, Guiliani, Thompson, Gingrich, McCain - WTF? - And not just standard divorce stuff, stuff like cheating on your wife who had cancer kind of stuff. Crazy stuff. - I don't quite get how Dobson - who's made a fortune focusing on everyone's family - could blow off something like serial adultery. Says a lot about the Radical Christian Fundamentalists though.

jvirne 0 Posted March 7, 2009 The Republican party is too stubborn and stupid to turn to Ron Paul. He could certainly reinvigorate them at a time when the epic failures of Bush & Co. has practically destroyed them. They're so fractured, shellshocked, confused, and desperate that they're turning to cartoon characters like Rush Limbaugh for "leadership" instead. I'm an Obama supporter, but I'm no Democrat. I don't want to see the GOP fall apart like this. Or, if they do fall apart, I sincerely hope a new party rises from the ashes to keep a sense of balance to things.
