How much money would it take for you to call 'er quits right now.

Recommended Posts

After taxes, and you never pay tax on it again. You would get this amount in a lump sum, and you could do as you chose with it. The only stipulation is, you could never again be paid or compensated in any way again for work that you do.

What's the amount?

$3,000,000 cash.

I think that's too high...for me at least. So you are saying, if you were offered 2 million, you'd say "Nahh...I'm gonna keep working..."????

5 million for me to live on and send my kids to school and 5 million for the charitable foundation that I'd run with all the spare time I'd have.

I plan on investing mine.

I think that's part of the assumption.

But if you invest it all, what will you be living off of?

Nevermind. I just figured out the dividends on 3 mil.

Carry on.

Something like that. I need enough money to get by for the first year and then everything after that is income made from investing. I wouldn't be rich by any means, but I could get by so that's the number I came up with.

Of course I would save on a lot of stuff work clothes, gas, wear and tear on the car, child care, lawn care, misc other stuff I need to pay other people to do because I don't have the time.

$3,000,000 cash.

My very first thought! At a very modest 5%, you would be allotted approximately $150,000 annually without ever touching the principle. As I age, I will want to slowly dip into that principle 3M with a solid chunk for kids, grandkids, etc.

Yep, agreed...$3,000,000.

Do I have to pay taxes on the investment income?

Yep. If you make money on it, you pay taxes. The original I used, could be tax free or taxed. If it were pre-tax...of course your initial amount would need to be a lot more. I just used "after-tax" for the sake of simplicity.

You can have anything you want if you put your mind to it. Old saying, but it's true.

Donald Trump was asked, "If you had to do it all over again what would you do?

Trump said, "I'd find the best network marketing company I could and then start my own business".

The Audience laughed at him. Trump than say's, "That's why I'm sitting here and you're sitting there".

Residual income is what it's all about.

Another vote for $3 mill then. I could bet by on less okay but not well enough that it wouldn't make it desirable to work at something.

I would say 3 million although I would definitely have to think about 2 million. Oh well, at the rate my wife and daughter spend money I will be working until I'm 80.

I'd could go for 2 million. With current investments and parent's estate...that should get me by :ninja:

Pretty much my thought, enough to buy T-bills or similar and live off of $150K. But I've never held them so I don't know if there are any taxes, plus with inflation... the number I've always had in mind is $5M.

I originally typed $5 million, but changed it after some quick calculations.

I should have added that if Torridjoe gets his way with taxes, I would change it to about $20M.

$2M is not enough. I would need about $4M-$5M.

How's that rap CD project coming?

3 mil would be 60k every year from this year until I am 75.

So 3 mil for me too.

If I could still work for a while part time or retire early... 1.5 mil would be enough to get me started.

Where are you gonna get a 2% return [after tax] on your investments?

You're dreaming.

Actually, you should be able to get 5-6% guaranteed.

Give me an even million. I may squander that in one year and then I would have to go back to work, but Oh what a year that would be! :argue:
