TerrySilver 0 Posted May 8, 2006 i unfortunately got into a fight on saturday night, and it was the first time in a long time that i threw a punch at someone. good news was that we won, they lost; we didnt get arrested, they did; one of them got ambulanced out of the bar, the worst we got was one guy had a black eye (which was the first punch that started the fight) i dont condone violence and in no way think i'm a "tough" dude (i normally break them up), but just curious when was the last time a fellow geek threw a punch, and what happened. share your stories

parrot 789 Posted May 8, 2006 Last month some ass tried to cut me off from the parking spot I was waiting on at Wal Mart so I had to throw down. Now she knows she doesn't own all the good spots just because she has that little blue card hanging from her rear-view, BEYATCH!

TerrySilver 0 Posted May 8, 2006 What was the fight about? long story short, a few of my friends are in a band playing at a bar. one of my buddies was videotaping them, and some dude purposely kept getting in the way of the camara. my buddyrepeatedly asked him to get out of the way. to make mattersworse he then started yelling in the camera something about "fock america!"(why, i dont know). this really irrated a few of my friends. people got in each others faces, words were exchanged, the kid threw a punch. there were 5 of us, and about 4 or 5 of them. immediately after, all hell broke lose, we all threw punches, 2 of them got beer bottles cracked over their heads, and as a whole, the other guys only got one punch in, the first one that started the whole mess. this fight actually went on for a while because, unknown to us, the bouncers were busy dealing with another fight outside of the bar, so no one was in there to break up the fight, which sucked for the other guys. finally, the bouncers came back inside. as we saw them breaking things up (one actually pulled me off someone), we smoothly leave the place and get the fock out of there. from a distance we see an ambulance truck show up, and 2 of the guys (i'm pretty sure, we were pretty far from the scene) getting thrown in the cop car. we all leave ok, except for my buddy who got punched first, he only had a little black eye. i know, fights are stupid to get into, and being 25 yrs old its a bit embarrasing actually, but what are you supposed to do when you see your friend get punched? TerrySilver 0 Posted May 8, 2006 So they never threw a punch but you cracked them with beer bottles? In legal terms that's called assault with a deadly weapon. no, they threw the first punch, the one guy out of the other group started the whole thing, THEN we punched back. their side swung first. and in the middle of the melee, 2 guys on our side hit them with bottles. and i totally agree with you, hitting someone with a bottle, is a really dumb thing to do legally, and it is exactly what you say it is. i didnt do it (fists only here) but at the same time, its a fight, it happened so fast, and we werent expecting these jerks to start with us, so things like that happen when you already got a beer bottle in your hand, unfortunately. hey, i'm not happy with what happened either. i'm too old for this crap Why did that guy have to move for your buddy? Why couldn't he find a elevated place to film from. I woulnd't have moved either. What, everyone is supposed to part like the Red Sea because your buddy wanted to film? no, it wasnt like that. obviously, if you are filming something in a bar, people are gonna get in the way, and thats not a problem. but this clown was purposely getting in the way, looking straight in the camera, just being a total diick, then he got worse by just screaming stuff at the camera repeatedly. it was no accident on his part and he was doing this purposely to start something. the kid with tha cam asked him to move a few times and actually moved himself, but the guy just keep getting in the way on purpose. then once he started screaming stuff like "FOCK AMERICA!!!" right into the camera from like a foot away (he was like 2 feet away from the camera the whole time), that was when the jawing began, then he threw a punch
Jeff Garcia 8 Posted May 8, 2006 So if you were taking a picture of your family and some tool kept jumping in the way after you asked him to please not do so, it's all good? The unavoidable people passing by is one thing, the blatant stupidity is another. As for the picture of the family thing I used as an example, do I really need to explain it to you or do you grasp what I am trying to say?
BiPolarBear 494 Posted May 8, 2006 I saw a guy trying to steal a friend's pick-up and got in the cab with him. After I got in, I just ingnored him and looked out the windshield waiting for him to drive away. He told me "John says it's OK." and I told him "This truck belongs to Dave". I pushed him out of his side of the truck and when we got outside I pushed his head down and grabbed him by the nuts. When I went to lift him; he was very willing to go along with the program. I flipped him over and he landed on his back in the street. He tried to leave at one point and I scraped his hide off on the asphalt until he decided he would rather wait for the cops. Giants Fan 85 Posted May 9, 2006 I haven't thrown a punch since ... college I think. Been attacked since then, but haven't thrown a punch. Been punched even. Didn't punch back. I put some dude in a full-Nelson, lifted him off his feet, and literally threw him out of a bar a few years ago. Same bar, I saw a dude get totally focked up one night ... 1 punch. 1 punch can kill ya! Anyway, these like soccer Hooligan types were kicking some dude outside the bar, 2 on 1 and I was just watching, not wanting to get involved, and this kid, small guy maybe 5 foot 7, 135 lbs comes running out of the bar, towards his friend who is getting kicked in the ribs and he didn't see the oother hooligan guy, and he just tagged him in the jaw, I'm almost sure he broke it because the kid was out like a lightbulb, and then he hit his head on the pavement real bad and started bleeding. So, at that point I ran over and just held the guys head still and applied pressure to the back of his head until the ambulance got there. He was still out when they took him away, and had lost quite a bit of blood, but he was breathing ... they said he was gonna be ok. I gave a description to the cops, and they caught the guys that did it. I remember holding that kids head, and the dude was like all proud of himself, and I was like "Dude ... you better get outta here before the cops get here." ... he didn't get far. Gave the cops my name too, and never heard from anybody again. Also a friend of mine, DID kill some dude in a bar fight. 1 punch. I'm older and wiser now ... I just try and avoid that kinda stuff. Doesn't mean I'm not a bad-ass.

My issue is that they are run like a middle ages company based on the response time (as you pointed out). I think they use warriors on horses to deliver stuff, keeping it old school and all... If you are going to insist on certain weapons etc., they should come from places that deliver in my lifetime. That being said, from a curriculum and family standpoint, they are very structured and very well run. BTW, seems like you had a little advantage in that fight of yours. (As any half decent martial artist would know) Have you fought any national/international events? Sorry, my bad. My wife competes; actually tied for first (then lost) at the ATA world championships last year. I don't compete much; my legs turn out at the shins which makes it very difficult to have competition-quality stances in kicks. I am going to this years championships though and competing in the tourney they throw the day after. What the heck... As for advantage, I studied kenpo briefly, and the instructor said that a black belt has prolly a 50/50 chance against a good, experienced street fighter. Seems about right. But how many "experienced" street fighters are there? Most fights I've seen (granted its not been many) grown ass men can't throw a punch to save their lives! Much less have a balanced fighting stance, or hold there hands like a novice boxer even. Pathetic for the most part.

Giants Fan 85 Posted May 9, 2006 See, all this pretend fighting, even boxing, you have gloves on ... the thing is, one good punch to the eye, or the nose, or the jaw sometimes ... and it's friggin over. I got in a fight in college with a guy in my frat, a good couple inches taller than me, but I thought I could take him ... he was a HS wrestler ... me, not so much. Anyway, I remember thinking if I take the first swing, and get him in the eye ... that's it ... but he ducked my punch, hit me in the nose, breaking it and I started bleeding profusely ... meanwhile he had spun me around, so I fell to my hands and knees, cupping the blood ... and he walked up next to me and tagged me in the temple for good measure ... and then locked himself in his room, like a poosay. Took all of about 3 seconds before that fight was over. I never went to the doctor, but I know he broke my nose. I have a glass nose. One good shot to my nose and I'm done. That may be the last time I threw a punch. Can't think of one time since. Hopefully got that all outta my system when I was younger. How many total fights? A dozen at the most. Many were just 1 LANDED punch.
