shovelheadt 71 Posted June 12, 2006 I think it might be more serious than "jaw surgery" - he's listed in critical condition. god bless and good luck. my heart goes out to Roethlesburger and his loved ones - I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best. He seems like one of the really good guys, so all things football aside, god speed to him throught this ordeal and recovery. I was wondering the same thing. Do they usually rush someone into surgery for a broken jaw? I'd think they'd be worried about other stuff first.

shovelheadt 71 Posted June 12, 2006 He is in serious, but stable condition. That doesn't answer my question. Do they ususally do an instant surgery for nothing more than a jaw? I think they'd be doing all kinds of MRIs and whatnot.

I have no idea. My post was more of a correction on scooter's post that he was in critical condition.
famousb 11 Posted June 12, 2006 I was wondering the same thing. Do they usually rush someone into surgery for a broken jaw? I'd think they'd be worried about other stuff first. you do realize that Big Ben is basically THE city of Pittsburgh, right? What have the Pirates done lately, and the Penguins almost folded... if Big Ben got a brushburn from dumping his bike they would probably have rushed him into surgery... in my unmedically trained opinion, i'm willing to guess the serious but stable condition is more so a precautionary thing they would do for any potential head/neck trauma... It did take about 2 hours from the time of the accident before he went into surgery. Is that considered rushing him in?
The Moz 69 Posted June 12, 2006 Ben is da biggest star in Pittsburgh since Terry Bradshaw or Super mario . I just cannot believe he was stupid enough to drive on a Motorcycle to begin with let alone with no helmet. He was a top 5 NFL QB ( not fantasy ) and on his way to being even better. I hope it isns't really serious as he seems like a pretty decent guy and a hell of a QB. Juts made a dumbass decision. !
uubeee 0 Posted June 12, 2006 He does not have to be in critical condition to warrant immediate surgery. He may have injuries that require immediate attention, but may not be life threatening.
Patriotica 5 Posted June 12, 2006 The first witness to get to him said he was speaking to her tho he didn't know where he was. I doubt he has much wrong outside of the jaw and lacerations. If teeth are broken and jawbones are smashed then I would consider that a critical need for instant surgery.
Erb047 0 Posted June 12, 2006 That doesn't answer my question. Do they ususally do an instant surgery for nothing more than a jaw? I think they'd be doing all kinds of MRIs and whatnot. Someone mentioned it already, but he wasn't "Rushed In" per se. The Jaw surgery needed to be taken care of immediately so that they can set it properly. From what it sounds like that was the biggest need for surgery. Sounds like the medics coulda/shoulda been able to take care of the lacerations on-spot, then have the docs stitch him up better, but the medics cant really do much with the jaw thing I dont believe. famousb 11 Posted June 12, 2006 man, i just thought about "jaw" and "Pittsburgh", and what came to my mind but Bill Cowher... you KNOW there will be some jokes flying around camp about that if Ben comes out of this alright...
football_scooter 0 Posted June 12, 2006 I have no idea. My post was more of a correction on scooter's post that he was in critical condition. much appreciated, thanks. I just saw this on the Yahoo blurb about it all The 24-year-old Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional. In May 2005, Steelers coach Bill Cowher lectured Roethlisberger on the dangers of riding without a helmet. "He talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe." uh, wonder if he'll reconsider that stance now. ellisonb11 0 Posted June 12, 2006 i love the guy, but what a bonehead decision he made to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. it must make him feel like a because it can ruin his career if he makes a mistake. well, hopefully he can comeback and be just as good. Gephardt69 0 Posted June 12, 2006 big deal, so the steelers may not have a passer who's good for 9/21, 123 yards and a couple picks. I'm sure they can find someone else to throw picks and hand the ball off!
wiffleball 4,790 Posted June 12, 2006 The most tragic part of this whole horrific incident is that {shudder} Tommy Maddox' absolutely worthless career is likely going to continue....

IN$TANT REPAY 11 Posted June 12, 2006 i hope tht this article is innacurate....if it is accurate, this may not be good news.. Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said. A plastic surgeon has been summoned. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_457685.html
Bombs Away 4 Posted June 12, 2006 Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the driver of the car was A. a woman, and B. had Maine plates. She left with police, which is probably the best thing that could have happened to her today. This person will no doubt be a target, because that's just how things go. Also, to whomever mentioned Tommy Maddox, he's long gone, so brush up on your info, pally. No new news from Pittsburgh, but I think everyone here is cringing in anticipation of Terry Bradshaw's next statement.

ganggr 0 Posted June 12, 2006 The Steelers should start looking for a Q?B if he broke the jaw... and SEVERELY INJURED BOLTH KNEES...
