Chronic Husker 85 Posted June 12, 2006 1. Not a rook, just appears as such. 2. Posted that in another thread and didn't feel like wasting energy on this subject just wanted to add my 2 cents on riding witout a helmet. You mean your 4 cents.
Bombs Away 4 Posted June 12, 2006 I also didn't see it mentioned, but two weeks ago, the local news reported that Ben signed a big deal to appear in Campbell's Chunky Soup commercials with his mother. So, if you ever believed in that curse, you probably have some new ammunition.

So, if you ever believed in that curse, you probably have some new ammunition. now it won't be the Chunky, cause he'll be sipping it up through a straw for a few weeks... but he'd still be a great ad campaign for regular soup... swamp dog 0 Posted June 12, 2006 an excerpt from the story that appears on esnp.com (homepage): "Pittsburgh media outlets reported that Roethlisberger was in surgery for a broken jaw. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, citing a police source, reported Roethlisberger also broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost teeth and has knee injuries from hitting the pavement. A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said. " yikes...he won't be playing for awhile. but at least he's alive. This thread reminds me of the 9-11 threads. That's why I'm waiting to comment until proven facts come out. Hope he's not severely focked up. see above. not sure how you'd define focked up...but to me that's focked up. doesn't sound life-threatening, thank god--but i don't see him getting near a football field anytime soon. the severity of the knee injuries will also be a key, but his sinus and head injuries will make it difficult to run let alone get hit on the football field. football_scooter 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Also, Jay Williams of Duke and NBA fame.......... Oh yeah - completely forgot that one. Williams coulda been a star in the NBA - now he's an afterthought, still trying to rehab an injury that essentially cost him his career. he came damn close to ripping his leg off below the knee if I recall correctly - ow. hopefully there are no ill effects for Big Ben - as I said, I like the guy and hope for the best. Haven't seen it anywhere, but do the authorities have any idea what speed the two vehicles involved in the crash were traveling? If it was downtown, maybe he was going 35 to 40 mph, but by the looks of the car impacted it looks like he may have been going faster.

football_scooter 0 Posted June 12, 2006 cording to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement. That sounds very bad for his career - especially the part I bolded.
famousb 11 Posted June 12, 2006 It sounds like these are serious injuries. He is going to be out of football for 2 months I bet. Mid August or something like that . all of a sudden that opening Thursday night game of MIA at PIT doesn't look as good as it could of w/ Charlie Batch starting... I sure can't see someone playing and getting popped in the chin after suffering a broken jaw and smashed sinus cavity just 3 months earlier...
Milwalkeysbeast 0 Posted June 12, 2006 The first witness to get to him said he was speaking to her tho he didn't know where he was. I doubt he has much wrong outside of the jaw and lacerations. If teeth are broken and jawbones are smashed then I would consider that a critical need for instant surgery. Maybe you would consider it a critical need, but the medical community would not. Jaw and teeth are do nto meet criticlaly life threatening criteria. After a possible head injury, ruling out a head bleed is the most important

Mid August or something like that . wow...if you think he's only going to be out two months you should be thankful and doing a instead of a frankly, i don't see him coming back that soon at all. i wouldn't be surprised if he misses a significant part--if not all of--the season. Yes, the whole season is a possibility. The reports haven't started getting better. Just the opposite.

After a possible head injury, ruling out a head bleed is the most important Linky says he suffered a 7 inch laceration to the back of his head. That's something of a head injury. Also his broken sinus cavity is concerning, and as I understand can effect everything from breathing to balance to vision to hearing to the obvious, being able to smell. I had a tooth pulled once a few years back, and they made me sign a waiver - apparently when having a molar removed, there's a risk that they pull out a chunk of your sinus, which can cause you to (among other symptoms) lose your sense of taste. That freaked me out a little, but more to the point of the topic, helped me to understand why this might be more serious than some here believe.

You might be right on that. Not sure how long you sit out from a broken jaw, sinus whatever, and It will be interesting to hear how bad the knees are. Two months was being optomistic I believe!
