Another question about religion?

Recommended Posts

When you're a child you're convinced there is a Santa Claus that brings presents to you and leaves them under a tree and drinks milk and eats cookies. When you're old enough to know better, you realize it's impossible for there to be a Santa.

When you're a child you're convinced there is an Easter Bunny that hops along and sometimes brings you gifts and likes to leave colored eggs laying around for you to find. When you're old enough to know better, you realize it's impossible for there to be a Santa.

When you're a child you're convinced there is an invisilble man in the sky named God that watches over you and when you do bad things, he will look down upon you. You're also convinced eating meat on a certain day of a certain time will keep you from entering heaven to hang out with the invisible man when you die. When you're old enough to know better, you realize it's... Oops.. I guess some of you haven't figured this one out yet.

Why is it no one believes in Santa or the Easter Bunny after they're intelligent enough to know better, but still believe in God?

According to the Movie, "Elf", there is a Santa. We just grow up and stop believing. That is sad of us, I want to believe in Santa again.

Santa is a lot more believable, I see him every winter in the mall.

There is just as much of a chance as there being a Santa, why don't we still believe?

Methinks you doth protest too much. You behavior about God is like that of a 3rd grader who hits the girls he likes. Just go to church already and quit boring the rest of us.

Again, just like last week Edjr? You aren't Davaco by chance are you?

Just like Davaco, you try too hard to piss people off. I understand you enjoy the attention these anti-religion threads get you, but eventually people are going to figure out that you just like focking with them. Everyone here understands you don't believe in God. But everytime you're hanging out or thinking about it, and you come up with another funny little metaphor to justify why you're right...it doesn't mean that is a reason for you to come on here and tell us all how if you believe in God then you are stupid.

We get it Edjr, we understand your point of view. Stop fishing man.

How about an answer! TIA

What's TIA? Just asking, I see it used alot, and I have no idea what it means.

As far as your answer...we went over this last week, edjr. I already told you my point of view, go check the other Anti-God thread you started...last week. I don't know if you remember or not, but we somewhat agreed.

So tell me edjr...why do you hate the idea of God so much...so much that you like coming to a football message board to mock those people who consider that a major part of their life. Just asking, what's the deal?

I want to know why they used to believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny, but don't anymore. Yet still believe in God. It makes no sense, I want some sense.

I guess one might be able to turn it around and ask you why you chose NOT to believe.

Santa Clause WAS a real person, you always make it out to be something that someone just thought of one day. I thought we'd gone over this around Christmas time last year, but apparently, it was forgotten.

Origins of Santa Clause

And the Easter Bunny is tied to the Vernal (Spring) Equinox...the eggs being a symbol of life/fertillity, things coming back to life in the springtime.

It's a legit question, as are almost all questions related to religion.

But people take it so seriously..that intelligent debate is sometimes very hard.

And, quite honestly, you can beat it down in a number of ways, challenge everything about it, but it will all boil down to faith.

Either you have it or you dont..and you can't argue with someone thathas faith..but I sooo love to debate with them.

Your logic is false. Your argument appears to be "as a child we believe in A and learn it is a fake. We believe in B and learn it is a fake. Therefore C must be a fake." There is no debate against false logic.

I just want an answer. Why do people stop believing in Santa and the Easter bunny? maybe they are as real as god? Maybe when they get to heaven Santa and the Easter Bunny are going to be pissed they weren't believed in?

People stop believing in Santa Claus because there is proof that he does not exist.

If you showed me proof that God does not exist, then it would be a different story.

In my case some older kids told me Santa and the Easter Bunny were fake. So when I asked my mom about them she confirmed it. I still believed in the tooth fairy for a few more years because the older kids forgot to mention that one.

As for God, my mom is convinced God is real so I had to figure that one out on my own. Most people don't figure it out because ... er... I had best not say... but you know.

What proof is that? Maybe there is a santa claus type mystical force out there. Of course it can't be proven or disproven, because it's nothing more than an idea.

If you showed me proof that God does not exist, then it would be a different story.

As mentioned before, something like that is an impossible task, because you can't disprove something that hasn't been proven in the first place.

yeah...because all of us aren't "critical thinkers" like voltaire. it takes an intelligent person like him to know God is a fake. all i know is that it must be pretty depressing to live with no hope. but i like most of you hypocrites though that will be crying for God's mercy on your death bed. my grandfar was the same way until he told me he beleived in God right before he died.

It's not a requirement to live life with the absolute knowledge of a superior force. People can find hope/purpose/motivation in the living natural world.

I think you will find that the same people who believe in god believed there were WMD's in Iraq. Those same people also blindly support their nonce leader just like they believe in the greatest fairy tale ever written. Stupid is as stupid does.

No. The story is so outrageous that I don't need it.

Besides, if there is an afterlife, send me to wherever Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin are. While I'm there, I'd like to tell Carl Sagan and Isaac Asimov how much I liked their books.

Please God, don't make me spend an eternity with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

Q: How do you make the masses of "1 BC" spread out across thousands of miles with no real set of laws and consequences behave and work towards the common goal of the empire.

A: Write a book telling them they're all going to burn in hell if they don't

You sheep don't need The Bible to scare you into behaving anymore. We have these guys called "police officers" that will bust a cap in your ass instead.

Have fun burning in hell. :ninja: :D

This has ALWAYS been a fundamental issue I have with any God, or religion for that matter.

God gave us this intelligence and the ability to question our environment. Why then would he be mad at us for questioning something for which we have no proof? It's a HUGE contradiction!!!

And just TALKING about it, just discussing it or challenging it sends us to this hell? I don't see how that works at all.

Based on some of the stories in the Bible, God is an azzhole.

Not everyone that believes in God believes that God is perfectly represented by the stories in the bible.

Not everyone that believes in God believes in the Judeochristian God.

Edjr and everyone else here that decides that they want to belittle someone for believing in a higher power are doing the exact thing the Catholic church does if you do not agree with their dogma. You don't want to believe or you think you are too smart to believe in a possibility of intelligent design, then fine. But to sit here and rip on something that someone believes in with all their heart just because you don't is absolutely pathetic. Hypocrites. All of you.

Is He mad? I'd like to think not. This is a great point btw. My physics teacher in HS, whom I highly respected, believed that you should not just blindly believe in God, but question, investigate, experience... and in the end if you believe in God, your belief will be that much stronger because you did so.

I'm still on that journey, I'm too much of a critical thinker like Voltaire, but I like to think of it as a journey rather than an end.

See again....this is usually the argument. Yes EDjr might have come off as a little "snippy" about it but the argument is always "you are not religious, you don't believe in god, therefore you are a pathetic person" blah blah blah while NEVER offering up anything of substance to support the case.

Faith is faith, I respect that. But questioning something is a quality we have and should be allowed to pursue. While I would never call a religious person a name, I would expect the same treatment.

just because I want some proof god exists shouldn't make me a bad person ya know.

Questioning is not an issue. There is nothing wrong with debate and research. But for someone who doesn't believe in anything to belittle someone that does is the equivalent to a Christian telling and atheist that they are going to hell. And for edjr to do it, especially after he complains all the time about religious people judging him, is ridiculous and shows how insecure he is about his own beliefs.

You can question all you want to. But do it to find your own answers, not to discredit mine.
