Listing Eddie Vedder above James Hetfield is absolute sacrilege.

Every list like this is controversial, but this one's an actual joke. Why not just put Chakha Khan up there while we're at it?

Commented the editors of the magazine: "Assembling our list certainly presented a daunting task considering the breadth and scope of the metal empire during its 35-year reign as rock's most powerful and enduring force. We tried our best not to turn this into some sort of popularity contest where only the most famous (or infamous) frontmen in metal lore were recognized. Sure, the likes of Plant, Halford and Tyler are here, but so are such oft-overlooked notables Mogg, Owens and Sandoval."

What about Jethro Tull? Who is their singer?

Also, no Madonna on the list? This is bullcrap.

Seb Bach at 36 is absolutely horrible

Gene Simmons blows. How did he rank as high as he did?

And the Kurt Cobain love-fest continues. i don't know why he keeps getting so much adoration.

You can't really think that Anselmo deserves to be higher than Cornell. IMO Cornell & Ozzy should be 1 & 2.

Holy crap!! I just saw David Coverdale all the way down at 54!!!! That is a focking travesty. TRAVESTY!!!!!

Early Soundgarden was pretty heavy. They seem to be grouping grunge/metal/hard rock into this thing, so you have to work within the scope of the survey. Zeppelin is by no means Metal, but you can't put Mustaine over Plant because of the misnomer in genre.

He's not metal, but he is/was a great singer.

I guess. I've always found his voice to be rather average.

Of course, my point is he doesn't belong on a metal list.

Zeppelin and Sabbath were the Fathers of metal, IMO.

There are so many horrors on this list that I can't even single any of them out.

On second thought, the fact that Mick Jagger (15) is without sniffing distance of this list tells you all that you need to know.

ETA:

71. Fred Durst

 Okay, I'm leaving this thread now.

Thats the one that stuck out to me too... Here's my top 5

Sebastian Back

Axle Rose

Steven Tyler

Bon Scott

Bon Jovi (hey, he had a good metal voice)

James Hetfield on the Black album would be top 5, but it was only for 1 album

Maybe it's because Hetfield only has 4 albums.

Trust me, there's only 4. <_<

Yeah, even if the list was "crappy white rap nerds" Durst still wouldn't make the top 20.

Hmmm...I would have Eddie Vedder and Axl Rose in the top 5

I recommend downloading Yellow Ledbetter from the Tibetan Freedom Concert album, possibly the best solo vocal performance i've ever heard....

I think Steve Perry is a great vocalist. But, Journey was not a metal band....strange inclusion to this list for sure.
