Seriously. This man brought green environmentalism into the mainstream...being energy efficient is "in". Just look how the crowd adores him...can you see Cheney ever doing that?

I gotta give Cyber Recliner Rick credit though, he/she/it is remarkably good at getting a response despite how blatantly idiotic his posts are.

80% of the country wishes Al Gore would be eaten by a displaced polar bear.

The blatant idiocy appeals to our collective sense of the ridiculous.

I think Gore going on SNL and Gore last night at the Oscars was pretty ballsy. This country needs more politicians and potentially powerful people willing to make fun of themselves, or at least stop being so focking uptight. Forget global warming for a second, Al Gore is bringing a lot more into the mainstream. Even if Global Warming or whatever you want to call it isn't man made, can't we still try and do something about it?

Gore invented the internet Like my d!ck invented jerking off.

I think that Gore's statement during the 2000 presidential race: I took initiative in creating the Internet, has generated more than it's share of abuse and misuse. Was it inelegantly phrased? Yes. That said during the 1980s few politicians had as much to do with the development of the Internet as we know it today, as did Al Gore. Here's what Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, two of the founding fathers of the Internet, had to say about Gore in the wake of his statement:

Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the

Internet and to promote and support its development.

No one person or even small group of persons exclusively "invented" the

Internet. It is the result of many years of ongoing collaboration among

people in government and the university community. But as the two people

who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the

Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a

Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to

our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time.

Last year the Vice President made a straightforward statement on his

role. He said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the

initiative in creating the Internet." We don't think, as some people have

argued, that Gore intended to claim he "invented" the Internet. Moreover,

there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's

initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving

Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and

promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. We feel it

is timely to offer our perspective.

[...]

There are many factors that have contributed to the Internet's rapid growth

since the later 1980s, not the least of which has been political support

for its privatization and continued support for research in advanced

networking technology. No one in public life has been more intellectually

engaged in helping to create the climate for a thriving Internet than the

Vice President. Gore has been a clear champion of this effort, both in the

councils of government and with the public at large.

The Vice President deserves credit for his early recognition of the value

of high speed computing and communication and for his long-term and

consistent articulation of the potential value of the Internet to American

citizens and industry and, indeed, to the rest of the world.

Because of Gore's overstatement during a live debate his real and substantive contributions to the development of the Internet have largely ignored. In part because of his efforts we can have these informative discussions here at FFToday.

I'd give Cyber Recliner Rick more credit if she knew when to give it a rest. I think an alias with more than 1,000 posts has long since stopped being "funny" and now it's a little scary, sociopathic and weird.

Except that he knows that he will get a standing ovation in those venues just because he is a liberal Democrat. He could go onstage and tell a racist and he would still get a pass. If he went to an NRA convention dressed as a spotted owl, now that would be ballsy.

My point is - all that Al is known for is the environment. For all we know, his plan to counter 9/11 was to drop hybrid cars and soy milk on our enemies from B-52's.

Let him be in charge of the EPA - but God help us he is in charge of setting national policy on everything else.

You and Tipper and the only ones that are aware of any of his views outside the RIAA and the environment. Gore knows he can't win an election on one subject.

I take it we must be a- discussing two different people b- you are terribly uninformed, or c- you are fishing.

I imagine you might know Al Gore used to be the Vice President of the United States from 1993-2001? And happens to be the same guy who directed the largest government downsizing in decades?

The same guy who was part of the administration that balanced the federal budget and presided over an economic boom that resulted in 22 million new jobs and the lowest poverty rate in 25 years?

The same Gore who ran for President in 2000 on a platform of fiscal responsibility, elimination of the national debt, tax cuts for working families, who favored improving access to health care versus a universal coverage plan, who favored investing in American eductation and technical skillset improvement, who favored open markets and free trade, who wanted to eliminate waste in defense spending and procurement while at the same time modernizing the armed forces?

Maybe you aren't aware Al Gore won 4 elections for Congress, 2 for the Senate, 2 as Vice President, and of course the 2000 presidential election as well (of course, we all know how that went: Supreme Court awards the Presidency to the loser George W Bush by a 5-4 vote)?

Given the tone of your answers, I vote for c- you're fishing. Have fun.

P.S. Or maybe you spent the Nineties in a monastery. I guess that's possible, too.

As horrific as it is hearing GWB mangle the English Lexicon like a leopard on a bunny, I honestly don't know whose voice annoys me worse: Kerry or Gore.

They both have that boring, monotonous, pendantic no-inflection drone that makes Ben Stein sound like Celine Dion.

I keep waiting for one of them to ask "Bueller? Bueller?" "Anyone? Anyone?"

I kinda want to watch Gore's movie, but just snippets of it make me simultaneiously grind me teeth and pass out from boredom.

You'd think one of these guys might've seen a voice coach at some point in their careers.

Spiro Agnew

Agnew was known for his tough criticisms of political opponents, especially journalists and anti-Vietnam War activists. He was known for attacking his opponents with unusual, often alliterative epithets, some of which were coined by White House speechwriters William Safire and Pat Buchanan, including:

"nattering nabobs of negativism," (written by Safire)

"pusillanimous pussyfoots",

"hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history",

"the liberal intellectuals...masochistic compulsion to destroy their country's strength",

"effete corps of impudent snobs", and

"radiclib," a blend of "radical liberal".

"I am not questioning his patriotism, I'm questioning his judgment"
