wiffleball 4,800 Posted June 19, 2007 NBC Universal biggies Jeff Zucker and Marc Graboff recently had "exploratory" talks over dinner with Jon Stewart, Broadcasting & Cable reports, suggesting that the Daily Show frontman might somehow fit into the Peacock's late-night plan. Rather than pitch Stewart anything specific, a source tells B&C, Zucker and Graboff "just made their interest known in finding a way to do business together if Jon was ever available." Stewart's Comedy Central pact expires in 2008, not long before Conan O'Brien is scheduled to inherit The Tonight Show from Leno. There is some buzz, though, that with Leno still being immensely profitable, NBC might pay Conan to walk away, thus freeing up the 12:30 slot. tvguide.com Hmmm... Always thought Conan was a bad choice to replace Leno. Truth be told, Elen D might not be a bad choice. 'course, Conan is unfunny as often as he is funny. (Maybe I'm being generous). Jon pretty much rules the roost over at TDS, but I could see him wanting to go the "big time". I'd guess NBC's/Conan's worst numbers are huge compared to Comedy Central's best numbers. kpbuckeye 3 Posted June 19, 2007 Won't a major network require him to be funny?

I actually think that Conan is pretty hilarious -- but I agree that his weird brand of humor/skits are best suited for the 12:30 slot (about when college students are procrastinating from studying, late-night pizza/beer break, etc.). Stewart's more stand-up-comedy brand of humor is probably a better fit for Leno's spot.

Angry White Male 0 Posted June 19, 2007 I hate Jon Stewart because he tells the truth about our leaders in a humorous manner. That jerk.
kpbuckeye 3 Posted June 19, 2007 Have you seen Conan's show? granted sometimes Conan sucks, but he does some funny stuff. I would much rather watch Conan than watch Stewart cry about Bush every single night. talk about beating a dead horse.

I would much rather watch Conan than watch Stewart cry about Bush every single night. talk about beating a dead horse. You obviously don't watch the show. Another half-wit who if their guy gets lampooned in the least bit. The show picks on EVERYBODY. The show was all over Lewinsky-gate. The show picks on Congress, local & national news, Democrats, Organized Religion, - anybody who focks up. Whoever's in power at the time is going to get lampooned. In fact, I just watched it on my lunch hour and not a single mention of Bush. Hmm... But to the folks who are already hypersensitive because their guy ended up being the biggest fock-up in recent US history, all they see or hear is "he's picking on Bush every single night" One of the reasons the Radical Right looks so stupid. You never heard them whining about the 'liberal press' when it was Lewinski-gate 24/7. (apparently, everybody in the media switched in 2000) They're just too stupid to figure out that whoEVER is in power is going to be scrutinized. They whine about "the liberal media" for focusing on the Radical Right's fock ups, then pull stories about liberals focking up from that SAME media - and are consistently too stupid to get the irony. It's easier to about the people who report the fock ups than it is to blame the people who actually COMMIT the fock-ups.

Sparkling Wiggles 0 Posted June 19, 2007 I dunno about trying to pit Conan against Stewart. Triumph and the Walker lever are two of the funniest things in the history of network TV. I'd say Stewart is consistently better, but it's a lot easier to fill 30 minutes than an hour. They're both pretty damn good.
cmh6476 1,212 Posted June 20, 2007 they both suck, neither are leno/ carson
Quickolas1 80 Posted June 20, 2007 i'd take: self-deprecation triumph if they made it masturbating bear (& all the other characters) walker lever in the year 2000 etc. over all of them combined stewart is very good at the political/news satire leno & letterman put one to sleep

Toro 3 Posted June 20, 2007 The masturbating bear won't fly at the Tonight Show. It is a much, much more conservative crowd. Conan's humor won't translate.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,433 Posted June 20, 2007 I believe that they are also currently paying Jimmy Fallon (from SNL fame) to not take another late night job until Leno retires.
