TaylorMade Rolls Out the Rossa Monza Spider

Recommended Posts

What the fock :furious:

I can't stand these goofball putters. Specially when I see pros using them. You don't see the best putters

on tour(Tiger Woods for ex) using crazy gimmicky 5 foot long putters with ridiculous reverse grips and such.

Jack didn't use a focked up putter. Feh.

I use a simple Wilson Brass putter and matching chipper. rink

I lub the chipper, specially since the courses I play on most are links style with nice slopes up to large greens

instead of thick grass. You'd be surprised how easy it is to punch/pop the ball on the green out of a shallow

trap with that club. Great touch.

Would normally say yeah, but I do like TM and their products have always been good to me. Odessy and other putters are well over $250 so

my putter works fine too however I am not a good putter so if this helps with 2 or 3 strokes a round it's more than worth it to me.

you're willing to spend $200 in the hopes it saves you 2 or 3 strokes? Meh, I guess that's not too much. Lessons are much more.

Exactly considering I have had the same putter for the past 10+ years, I dont think $200 is that much for the possibility of a few strokes per round.

I have a Taylor Made putter already, but actually still prefer my 20-year old brass dinker to it....SIGH, no flipping way.....

Though, I must say that my investment in my Super Steel driver a few years back has paid excellent dividends.....I can almost place balls with that thing...its nice to work the Big bertha for a nice long drive on the long holes, but I will even use that Super Steel on the par 3 shorts of 100yds because its so stiff I feel like i can totally control it, even to the point of a backspin placement :music_guitarred:

the players that are using it are sponsored by TM according to that story.

they get the club for free, hell they get paid to use it.

I remember that it was like a month after I bought my new irons that Taylor made was acquired by Nike and ALL OF THEIR SH!T WENT ON SALE FOR like 50% OFF :music_guitarred:

Would I spend $200 on a putter?

If I liked it enough...yes.

Though...I waited a few years and found a very lightly used one for under $100.

Currently rolling with the Titleist Future Phantom Mallett. Wanted the center shafted Mallett 2 but could never find it.

Just the best putter I have ever hit. So well balanced, so smooth rolls off the face, great sound on contact...I have much better luck lining up putts...and I don't think I have missed a putt inside 5 feet since getting it....may not sound like much, but those 4-5 footers suck balls sometimes and I now have much more confidence with them. This helps me be more agressive on some longer puts because if I run it by the hole a bit, Im not worried about yipping on the come back.

Though, it took a while to get used to the feel on longer putts.

Yeah...some of it might be confidence...but I have a much better time lining up putts with this thing. I step up to putts and they fall (probably exaggerated a bit on that 5 foot thing...you know. Probably more about inside of 3.5-4 feet). Those putts you really wish people would concede to you...but know that they never will.

I got a rule, I won't use a putter that's longer than my cack. So when it goes from the 3 footer

to the 5 footer, well that's a deal breaker. :overhead:

i've no problem spending $300 for a putter, but this thing is hedious.

but since it was brought up - what's so crazy bout spending $$ for a putter? it's the most used club in your bag and it affects your scoring more than any other club. to me, it makes much more sense to drop $250 on a putter than $400 for a driver.

ha, no thanks. golf is a lot like eating - we do it with our eyes. doesn't matter how well you may hit something at first if it sets up poorly or ugly to your eyes - it won't work. this is way too jacked up for me.

yeah, but if you 5-putt every hole, nobody outside of your foursome notices.

if you whiff with your driver or shank it into the woods every time, you're the club doofus.

c'mon man, it ain't about being a good golfer, it's about LOOKING like you're a good golfer.

MY putter is about 2 bills -- though I got it as a door prize at an outing a few years ago. The Oddesey 2 ball. best putter I ever used actually. Some folk totally overlook putting and the fact its the most important part in scoring. a shot in the trees , out , on green , 1 putt is better than a 280 yd drive , on in 2 , and a 3 putt - and counts just as good as a 2 putt routine par.

it's funny how we will spend $$ on something if we see so-n-so using it on tv, or if it's on the cover of the latest golf digest - but even crazier is how a lot of pros come across clubs. one of my favorite stories is the 3 wood fred couples used to win the '92 masters. it was actually a women's 12 degree driver that he got from tom watson's wife.

In the market for a new putter

http://thesandtrap.com/columns/bag_drop/ta...sa_monza_spider

Looks like you can get ot for $199

$199 dollar putter? No thanks.

Putter is like a RB now a days, you can find them anywhere. Putting is the best part of my game, I've learned its all about feel and comfort. Unless you have demo this 199 dollar putter and really like it than I wouldn't get it. Putters don't really have any tecnology to them. I've seen some guys who can putt great with the old blade where you can putt left or right handed.

I use an old white hot putter, one of the first ones made, not the 2 ball, not anything special. A conventional looking putter. I was younger when I got it, maybe like 16 or 17, it was the new thing back then and I just got it because of that. but through the years I have learned to putt well, and would take it over the most expensive putter out there.

I didn't click on the link, but seeing posts I assume this putter is a "long putter"? right?

Do you already use long putters? If so why not try switching to the conventional style if you are having trouble?

Tip: A new "hot" product, that is 199 dollars won't just magically shave strokes from your score. That is what sells these products, people think just getting a club will help their game.

Yea sure, but its all about how you like it. If you just see a new product, and get it without trying it much, then whats the use? Putting is by far mostly feel, whatever feels comfortable, if knowing you have a 200 dollar putter give you confidence than go for it. The difference is in putting technology doesn't matter too much. The object is to line it up where you want to hit it and make solid contact. I don't think a flashier looking putter will help you do that.

Again it all comes down to what you use best and what feels the best, its not the club its the golfer. With drivers a 1980 metal wood is harder to hit solid each time and go as far, as a newer titanium drivers with a good shaft. Putters? What the difference?

ever putted w/a scotty cameron? it feels nothing like a knock off you get at walmart. not saying one can't putt just as well with the cheapy - but they feel completely different.

Yea I have. And thats great. But I'm just saying whatever works well. To just get a putter because it is expensive and supposed to be one of the best puetter is sort of stupid.

I can compare it to clothes. Say you go to the store to get jeans, you see a very nice looking pair of jeans that are pricier than what you usually get, you find your size, and you get it without trying it on.

You get home you wear them the next day and it just feels really uncomfertable. Then you change to that old pair of jeans that is still in decent shape, that just seems to fit nicely.

meh I really can't compare clothes shopping with buying a new putter. I don't buy my clothes, nor do I really care what i wear. Of course I would go to my local shop and practice with this thing and see how it feels, but you really cant tell much when practicing on those mats. Like I said I own everything TM besides my putter and have been very impressed with everything I have from them. That and the fact that putting is easily the worst part of my game it makes sense to look for a new putter. Nothing I buy is going to make it any worse

i agree, but i never said anybody should just bcoz. i do/did bcoz i'm a 5 handicap and i truly putt better with it. those that do it just bcoz are not golfers imo - they are trendy shoppers who happen to play golf.

I can understand that. And you can't tell much when putting in a store.

Just hoping that you won't expect a "new" putter to shave strokes off your game. All comes down to skills.

A pretty good player at my club plays with some old club, I don't think they are even old good ones. He uses a wooden 3 wood that he has had for years. (all his clubs aren't that old) but he is about a 3-5 handy and hits the ball real well. I'm not saying everyone is that guy, I'm not. I'm a decent golfer, about a 8-10. I have a Titleist Driver and irons, a vokey. I do have the old callaway steelhead 5 wood (i think the second version of the steelhead) that is about the most consistant club for me. And I do have a real old rusted down cobra 52 degree that is money.

The cost of the putter has really nothing to do with how well a putter putts.

For me i like a couple things in a putter, and i believe that these factors do improve my putting.

1. Proper weight of the putter- most important IMO

2. I personally like soft balata insert putters. Some people put better though with a harder copper face. This depends on how you stroke the ball. Some of the inserts do happen to come only in the higher end price range though. But a proper face on the putter is important, it makes it so the ball goes the right distance for the swing you alread have.

3. Having a nice grip

I use an oddeysee white hot #6 for all the reasons i mentioned. I doubt it shaves more than 1 stroke off my game, but i like the way it feels and it gives me confidence.
