FFT Homer Mock Draft Commentary...

Recommended Posts

I'm done arguing its been fun.

All I know Is Cromartie is about the most agile CB in this years draft. he ran a 4.33. If he isn't quick enough ok. If for some reason he needs to be both quick AND short then I guess he isn't the guy either.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I don't see a WR going in the first 20 picks. Just IMO. Sweed going that early would be a little shocking, but hey who knows! Stranger things have happened Would be nice to see this draft move a little.

A WR will definatly go within the 1st 20 picks.

Without being able to trade, I say the Bills go WR. I just don't see who else they would want over a solid tall WR at that spot. They could get Sweed or Kelly 5 picks later. Its a lock that they will go WR with either their 1st or 2nd pick. Rivers wasn't there in this draft so they took their WR now.

I'm scratching my head over Sweed too. He is barely a 1st round pick on my board.

With these four up we could get on a roll:

15. Detroit (7-9) Zackattack w/yostevo

16. Arizona (8-8) Voice_Of_Reason

17. Minnesota (8-8) Vikings4ever

18. Houston (8-8) hellothere

I thought the Bears would take Mendenhall.

Lions plan of attack changed after 4 OL went in a row. They have three picks in round 2 and 3 can snag a OL or 2 there if needed.

I thought we might as well snag the next best back now. Mendenhall has got it all!

No way Jenkins should still be on the board. So I couldn't pass on him. I was also looking for Oregons Stewart and Otah at OL. But Jenkins is just too good a CB to pass up on with the depth at RB in the draft.

So who should have taken Jenkins that didn't then?

Not saying they should, but a PATS fan I work with always mentions Jenkins at #7...seems a little early to me, but who knows for sure. :shocking:

If LSU's brilliant defensive tackle, Glenn Dorsey, is as healthy as he looked in his Pro Day workout two days ago, Rams executives can stop wondering about what to do with the second pick. If Dorsey has a clean bill of heath ? and right now it appears that he does ? the 6-foot-1, 297-pound All-America may have elevated his status to the point where the Rams can't afford to pass him by.

Being a Tampa homer I got to see a lot of Jenkins this year. There is a reason George Selvie and the front four for USF got a ton of sacks (not saying Selvie needed it, the guy is flat out awesone). The coverage was too good in the secondary with Jenkins and Trae Williams, especially with Jenkins. The guy has a ton of skill and should step in immediately wherever he goes. Great pick at that position.

Mckelvin and Rivers went right before the pick or one of them would have been selected.

You really don't have Sweed as a 1st round guy. Now I'm scratching my head. :(

Even if Kelly were still available I still think we go with Jackson. Return game needs help and Galloway getting older, the receiving corp is in trouble. DeSean gives us that WR that can just blaze and really stretch the field. CB was also an option, but there is no way Gruden goes defense after last years draft.

as the Houston pick goes.

it was not a slam-dunk im my mind. i really think C.Williams will be gone in the real draft, and assumed he would be in this too. to me its more than likely going to be a CB or a OT in the first for the Texans. we have no 2nd round pick from the Schaub trade, so the 1st really has to count all the more. our secondary is a huge concern for us. i feel that our rookie last year, M.Bennett, has all the tools and is a starting corner in the NFL, though i feel he is more suited to be a 2nd CB, not a lock down against elite talent that most teams need. D.Robinson's injury was terrible if you didn't see it, and he is deep in rehab, and has a great spirit about him but its still questionable who he will be when he gets back. he likely wont be back until the 2nd half of the season if at all this year. a lot of Houston homers don't want to hear it, but he may never play again, or if he does, not be the same guy. it was an absolutely devastating knee injury. apart from bennett, we have made some FA moves to sign CB, so i feel that they can at least field someone if they need to. the CB class this year is a very very good one, and they may take a CB with the 1st, it would not surprise me at all. C.Williams is athletic enough to play in the ZBS we employ here, but Alex Gibbs doesn't have a track record of taking OL in the 1st. On the other hand, we really have a very sad OL when you look at it. Aging and mediocre. Schaub was already knocked around a good bit last year, and we can't afford to put him on his back as much as Carr was. it would be a very difficult decision, but i lean C.Williams if he is there over any but the top 3 CB. if he is gone....that is the fierces debate on Texan boards, do we take Otah or a CB. Many feel Otah is a RT and not particularly suited for the ZBS, we will see. there is an outside chance they take an OLB (Rivers....maybe maybe Connors if they are high) or Kenny Phillips. They will not take a RB in the 1st, the Chris Brown makes that obvious. however, i dont think they would have even if they hadn't signed him. there will be serviceable RB in the 3rd this year in such a deep class.

Ghostofmeanmachine said that Kenny Phillips of Miami was a combination of Sean Taylor and Ed Reed - there is no focking way.

He is not even close to the playmaker that either one of those guys are, if Phillips was a safety at another school, NO ONE would be making either comparison.

It's simply not true.

Kenny Phillips will probably be a quality Safety in the NFL, but he is no where close to either Sean Taylor or Ed Reed's talent level.

On that note...we will keep the mock active during the weekend, but don't expect it to proceed very far. Also, I won't be updating it much as I will be working overnight the next two nights (and last night) :pointstosky: . During the day. I'll be sleeping on spending time with the family. I'll try and take a look here and there, but no promises. Maybe we can jam through round 1 and 2 by this time next week and see if we want to go for a third round when we get there. :music_guitarred:

I agree. He is the best safety in this draft, but that isn't saying much. A combo of Taylor and Reed would be a type of guy who would go in the 1st 5 picks.

That said I do hope he is still available for the Packers at the bottom of round 1.

I thought Branden Albert , OG (Virginia) would be there but obviously we need a safety.

Yeah, seems like the O-line guys are going faster than anticipated.

If the Bears are up and Jeff Otah is still around they will ignore Mendenhall. Here is why. They basically have only 1 OT on the roster in John Tait. I personally think the Bears will work some trade that will involve them getting a OT late in round #1 and allowing them to move up to grab Percy Jones RB from Arkansas. They have 2 - 3rd round selections to work with. Then I see them getting a late round QB/WR.

Kutulu. I think we should draft this biotch through at least 4 rounds.

Waiting for the Dallas to pick at #22..... and only 1 QB is off the board.

With B. Brohm still on the board and no one needing a QB until MAYBE SF (29) or GB (30). Does anyone think that a team like MIA, ATL, CHI, DET, CAR, or TB trade up to the get him?

Or, do you think they will wait to take either Brohm (if he slides), Henne or Flacco?

I think the Bears like Flacco, Josh Johnson, Dennis Dixon or Colt Brennan later.

There's no way someone will hold off just to get Dixon, especially a team with a QB situation like Chicago.

I agree, one of them should be there in the second, no need to trade up.
