cgod 0 Posted May 23, 2008 Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 7 wood, Rescue 3, 5-9 irons, PW, GW, SW and putter. I have a lob wedge too that I would carry instead of my driver but recently started hitting my driver a bit better and outside of an occasional flop shot with the LW I was never hitting it well so I took it out of my bag and just use the other wedges instead. IAMWood 6 Posted May 23, 2008 Driver King Cobra 10.5 degree 3-Wood, some brand i put together at Golfsmith 12 years ago 5-wood some other brand i put together at Golfsmith 13 years ago 2-iron - PW, SW, LW minus a 3 iron I broke at sometime. I put these irons together myself from Golfsmith about 13 years ago, never have regripped them. I bought the cheapest graphite shafts they had at that time. Harvey Penick clubheads. Have a Harvey Penick - Lake Austin putter I put together, I finally retired it after someone gave me an Oydessy Hot White putter , not sure what #, I love it. 14 clubs, try to play by the rules, mostly play IAMWood style with slight variations, like I don't necessarily drop 2 club lengths from a hazard, just around it in a decent layin spot, you can move your ball off rocks so you don't mess up your sticks. My driver and putter were both given to me by people who didn't like them, I think it was mental for both of them, I am busting my driver. I played last Sunday after not picking up the clubs for about 8 months, was stroking the ball as well as ever, of course short game was erratic, shot an 89. I rarely wear a glove, only if it is wet out or rainy. Used to not wear golf shoes, I now have the cheapest pair you can buy at Academy. I want to invest in some new irons, will do when I sell some stock options, it may be a while since I don't want to sell my options until they are about 33% higher than where they are now. My bag is one I won in a raffle at a charity tourney. I have a Longhorn putter cover, that I found and a Longhorn towel that my wife gave me. My sticks are my sticks, I have game and the mentality for golf to play with anyone. I do it inexpensive and my own style, never had a lesson. It's just me. My 3 iron was broken for a reason, the clubs that were given to me, were given to me for a reason. It's all about feel, I love it. Take Dead Aim boys. patweisers44 832 Posted May 23, 2008 Driver - Callaway ERC II (yeah, its non-conforming, but too bad...) 3, 5 Wood Dunlop Callaway 3 hybrid 4-PW Callaway X-20 (i have a set of callaway forged as well, but dont play enough to hit them) Titleist Vokey Gap (52) wedge Vokey sand wedge (56) Odyssey Putter..not sure the number but its the flat blade model. Just put the hybrid in the bag, looking to fill a big hole in my game between 190 and 210 yards. I cant hit a three iron consistently to fill that gap. The only thing a 1 iron is good for is holding in the air during a lightning storm because even God can't hit a 1 iron. I hit a 7.5 degree driver, i have tried out 1 irons, and i can hit them....... I am not a great golfer by anymeans(i got enough rounds to determine my handicap earlier this week and its 19), but i have enough club head speed to hit the 1 iron. I might get a 1 iron instead of my 3 iron, and a 2 or a 3 wood as well(i just need it for off the tee). Its just that would be pretty pricy, so it would be a couple months till i could get both those clubs. The one iron would be nice for long par 5's on my second shot, the 2 or 3 wood would be nice for teeing off on narrower fairways.

The hybrid is the first one I've ever owned, and it is great. Easy to hit, very consistent. I bought the irons on ebay as a condition 7.5 out of 10, used 2+ seasons for $175 from a company that also sales new sets. When they came in, the company had sent me brand new ones still in the plastic.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted May 23, 2008 I carry a lot of really sh!tty clubs. - cobra knock-off irons - an old Titleist putter - a old wood Ping driver that's half falling apart - one giant headed Dunlop driver that I don't use, I just leave that giant headed driver in the bag so that everyone knows I have a huge driver too and if we ever have to beat the fock out of some jackasses on the course, I've got some giant lumber to work with too. once I consistently shooting in the low 90s, I'll upgrade my clubs and BLAMO! I'll instantly drop 4 more strokes off my game and surge into the low 80s. I gots a plan.

I will bet that you hit a hybrid much more consistently than a 1 iron. Even tour players don't carry a 1 iron anymore. A 3 wood would be much better than a 1 iron or a 2 iron on par 5's as well. jackie sherrill 0 Posted May 23, 2008 Yeah...same with me with my 11.5. Alot of people at that...but I hit it pretty low and it works well for me. Exactly. If it works, go with it. Mine does fly real, real high. But, it's not a pop up. It just soars forever. Plus, with the 12 degrees, it's easier to control than the much lower lofts. I saw an article a couple years ago where a lot of pros are going to higher degree drivers (7,8 degree used to be norm, now 10,10.5 are very common) to keep the ball in the air longer, after studies proved that longer in air with less roll is consistently longer than less time in air and more roll. Makes sense, air = less friction than ground.

From their tests, not matter what your swing speed or handicap, nearly every golfer saw a distance improvement with higher lofted drivers.

Yeah, and you can get away with a miss much more than with a low degree driver. Guys I have seen that play with low degree drivers tee it up high so the loft comes from the hit on the upswing. I am not that good.
