so you trade away a 1st and 3rd basically (forget the 6th 7th swap) for a WR who was complaining about a lack of balls going his way in Detroit where the only other option was Calvin?

 

I don't care how much he likes TO how on earth are there going to be enough balls to go around for Witten, Owens, Barber and Williams? Much less with Brad Johnson throwing for 3 games.

 

Dallas should be focusing on shoring up that secondary. I can't wait to see the drama that unfolds in the comming weeks from all of this.

I think the Lion's have potentially made the best deal I've ever seen them make. The draft picks for a team in their situation are far more valuable than any one offensive star.

 

Roy Williams is a huge talent that has always been a class act in Detroit. Although everyone knew his heart has always been in Texas, he has always maintained his dedication to Detroit. If given the chance and the right atmosphere I truly believe he has the talent to be a better overall wide receiver than TO.

This move is part of their long-term plans. I think the Cowboys realize Owens has lost a step and will probably ship him in the next year or two. This year it's going to be interesting, as I think Owens will realize what they're doing and go into a titanium outrage, but it makes sense for the 'boys getting a talented #1 to soon replace an aging Terrell Owens.

That's besides the point. It's still a first and no one needs more first round options then the Lions. Let's not forget that much better receivers have been traded for much less.

Every team is one season away from being bad in today's NFL. Injuries, departing FAs, declining skills and retiring players happen every year. You need quality youngsters every year.

Again, see above. Plenty of good players have come out of this round or later and to assume you can keep this team intact year after year is a mistake.

 

4) They've already worked out an extension before they finalized this trade so it's not like he's going to walk next year.

This is the only positive that I can even see.

You just gave up a 1st/3rd/6th to what will probably equate to Alvin Harper circa 2008. Witten is the #2 receiver and there's this other guy named Marion Barber who requires touches as well. You had Miles and Crayton. YOU DIDN'T NEED ROY AT THIS PRICE.

If you saw those two plays, one against the lowly Bungles, you'd have seen the blown coverage. Owens still has some gas left in the tank, for an occasional play, just like Jerry Rice did at the end of his career. But, more importantly, down by down, Owens is simply getting beat one-on-one and is clearly not the same player he was even last season.

The only person i see imploding on this list is Owens. Witten and Barber will never be a distraction, or do anything that'll hurt the team. Williams wont complain about looks this year i don't think. For this year, he'll just be happy to be winning, being out of detroit, and being back home. Maybe next year, if he's not getting looks he'll complain, but i don't see him doing anything this year.

Did you just put williams and crayton in the same category? They are MILES apart.

 

Maybe i'm just a bigger fan than most of Roy Williams. I agree it was a steep price, but the cowboys were able to do this because of what they did prior. They stockpiled picks so they could do something like this. In 2 years, they'll still have a good/great wr corp. Miles Austin has been great and if sam hurd can get healthy, he'll be a solid #3 at worst. Stanbeck is supposedly doing good as well.

 

I wish we could've gotten him for less, but i'll take this deal.

As much of a cowboy fan, don't compare Roy Williams to crayton. It was laughable that crayton was our #2 with how bad he is. I may not agree with how much they gave up, but the team needed some positive news after all the BS. Roy Williams has always said how much he wanted to be a cowboy, maybe that will help others on the team

-- Felix Jones misses next 2 games for sure, possibly NYG game; Tashard Choice moves up to No. 2 on depth chart during this time

-- Adam Jones is fired. Plain and simple, get rid of him

-- Dallas puts McBriar on IR and just signed a pretty decent punter that was here in Denver during preseason. I'm serious, this guy will be OK

-- Terence Newman is out next four weeks. Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick have to step up, plain and simple.

-- Dallas lands Roy Williams for a Round 1 next year. Why Round 1? Because this is Dallas' 2009 draft picks as we speak.

If Dallas signs Roy Williams to a long-term deal -- 3, 4 years -- this could be worth the price. He might be overvalued. Dallas didn't get the deal NE got for Randy Moss, but remember, Moss was traded during the draft when the price won't be as high, anyway. Dallas gets RW for the rest of the season and probably longer.

 

Considering how tough this last week has been, this was a really good move, paved by Adam Jones' suspension no less.
