Kurt Warner

Recommended Posts

The Cards are crazy to let him get this far with the 49ers.

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/29469457/

Two-time MVP Kurt Warner is taking a physical exam and meeting with the top brass of the San Francisco 49ers, who are in hot pursuit of the free agent quarterback.Warner led the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl last season, but hasn't re-signed with the club. NFC West rival San Francisco has no settled starting quarterback, and the 49ers seem very interested in signing the 37-year-old passer.

Warner arrived at the 49ers' training complex shortly before lunchtime with his wife, Brenda. He's scheduled for a typical free-agent examination, followed by a lunch meeting with general manager Scot McCloughan and coach Mike Singletary.

I'm shocked, too, they would let him get in front of Singletary for a one-on-one meeting.

With all things being equal, Singletary is the one guy who could convince Warner to come there, regardless of what the Cardinals have to say.

Totally agree with ya. Cards are letting him go i guess as they knew he was meeting with the brass in SF. I guess they are comfortable with leinart. Kinda of kills Warners value . He will probally be like the Warner on the Giants . win games but not good for fantasy. and devalues fitz/boldin a little but not alot. They are still both awsome. Not a done deal yet so I suppose the Cards can call him up tonight and offer him what he wants.

Warner: Give me 12 million, sign TJ, draft a tackle, game on.

I like this move for Warner, and given the Cardinals History...they will drop the ball.

Check out this WR corps he's headed to

Did the Zona WR's make Warner look good? I just can't see the same numbers with this WR corps???

They did just sign Brandon Jones away from Tennessee :dunno:

If this is part of the Cards negotiating proccess then they are who they are. You let him see where the interest is but once you find out hes taking a physical and talking with the brass you swoop in. Warner could leave there with a contract. thats insane. the guy is still a top 10 ( 5?) Qb in football and just took your organazation to the superbowl and a play away from a title. and hes not really asking for too much. I guess after they did this to Boldin , it makes some sense.

You got to figure Issac Bruce his old pal will also have a chat with him. Warner to Bruce again.

Jesus says: "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

The Cardinals have offered the 37-year old $20 million over two years. Warner and his agent, Mark Bartelstein, are looking for a two-year deal worth approximately $29 million,

Huh, I always heard Kurt and Jesus were tight. I guess he missed this part.

Just saw this on ESPN.

Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando

Five things to know while Kurt Warner and his wife, Brenda, are meeting with 49ers officials at team headquarters in Santa Clara:

1. This is starting to get ugly. Or at least edgy. Warner's camp is now releasing unflattering information about the Cardinals' offer. For example:

: According to a source close to Warner, he has been offered what amounts to a one-year deal, with one season at $10 million, and a team option for a second year at the same terms.

: According to a source, the Cardinals' offer is $10 million in 2009 with an option bonus for $10 million in 2010. There are not any guarantees in the contract, so it is effectively a one-year deal at $10 million if the Cardinals don't want to bring him back in 2010.

2. The 49ers are committed at the ownership level. They paid for a private jet to escort Warner and his wife from Arizona to San Jose, near 49ers headquarters. Private jets are not cheap. If you know what it costs for a business to use one, please let me know. Also, if you know where to find flight information for private planes -- something akin to flightaware.com -- please point us in the right direction. Thanks.

3. Warner is not going through the motions. He brought his wife, which suggests the couple will make this decision together. That is no surprise, but Warner might not waste his wife's time if he were making this trip only to help his agent.

4. The 49ers are open to changing their offense. Former 49ers quarterback Trent Dilfer, now with ESPN, said that is the word from coach Mike Singletary. See video below.

5. Arizona remains the best place for Warner. We can debate whether the Cardinals should offer him more. We can debate whether Warner should be happy with the Cardinals' offer. There's no debating where he belongs. It's in Arizona and it's not even close.

The 49ers are pulling out all the stops for Kurt and Brenda Warner.

The Warners are not flying coach to the Bay Area. They're not even flying first class.

Heck, they're not flying commercial. Nope, the 49ers had a private jet waiting for them in Arizona, and the Warners are flying into San Jose Jet Center, it has been learned. They should arrive in the South Bay around 11:30 a.m.

Then, the Warners will take a limo 6.2 miles to the 49ers' team offices in Santa Clara.

Clearly, the 49ers are serious about signing Warner to a contract.

Definitely swings the balance of power (power! lol) in the NFC West.

If Warner heads to San Fran, the Niners could finish in 8-8 territory or better. Unless Leinart has grown up, the Cards will probably sink back to suckitude.

The Hawks are the wildcard of the division.

Kurt best remember that SF has an outdoor stadium with some mighty pesky winds. Seems to me Kurt's best days have been in domes.

vs. SF @ SF: 197 yards and 1 TD.

vs. SF @ AR: 328 yards, 3 TD.

I hope someone reminds him of that particular stat.

Cut that out....the Hawks suck.

Hit on a few offseason moves and get even half as lucky as we were unlucky last year with team health and we could run away with the division easy. The Niners are improving, but I wouldn't crown your asses yet

sounds like the cards don't want to guarantee 2 years. Maybe this has something to do with leinarts contract and not wanting to have to cut him loose with noone in the wings? Just a thought, have nothing to back it up...Still doesn't make a lot of sense to me but

I'm probably in the minority here but as a Niners fan, I'm not really giddy about bringing Warner in - not with the state their offensive line is currently in. Witness in 2008:

Arizona - 630 pass attempts, 28 sacks

SF - 509 pass attempts, 55 sacks

Warner has historically been a turnover machine when he has had poor pass protection. He'd be moving to a team that gave up twice as many sacks last year, in less pass attempts. He's never been mobile, and now he'll be 38 to boot. He also won't be throwing to Fitzgerald and Boldin.

I'd rather the Niners take this $29 million over two years (or whatever number is being floated around) and spend it on the trenches - both the O-line and D-line.

Statistically, last year, Warner was far and away the best at succeeding when the pressure was on him. I think those sack numbers would completely reverse this year if Warner joins the 49ers.

Dont forget that 32 of those sacks came from JT O'suckovan who held the ball about 3 seconds longer than he shoudl have everytime.

And when Hill took over, the o line was depleted.

I can understand why Warner would want franchise QB money (i.e. $14M). But this is not a bad offer. Warner should take this, IMO.

10 million is not good enough at the end of your career? 7 kids must be tight on the ol' monthly budget.

Whether the Cardinals like it or not, Warner has earned this payday. Do they really want to go back to Leinart? For most of last season the Cards had a non-existent running game which only improved down the stretch because the passing game was so lethal. With Leinart not being anywhere within a galaxy or two of Warner as a passer, the Cards really need to get over themselves and pay Warner for a job well done.

Look for the Cards to blow this and return to past form. WHAT IDIOTS!

Earned? This is the NFL. I'm a diehard Cards fan, I'd love to see Warner back, but at 14.5M/year? That's a lot of cha ching. I haven't worked thru the math, but what if they could use that in part to sign/extend Boldin, Dansby, Dockett... there is a misperception that Leinart sucks/sucked. He didn't. Given the choice, I'd take Leinart and those 3 over Warner any day.

Apparently the Cardinals feel the same way so we'll get to see it actually happen. Leinart is better than Tarvaris Jackson but the results will be the same. Should be entertaining at the very least. IDIOTS!

I think that is what the cardinals are thinking. It'll be fun to see if their right.

I will add that if they let warner walk, that takes a lot of balls. If it doesn't work out, they are going to have egg on their face and it could really piss off their fan base.

I could definitely see the Cardinals management letting Warner go considering it has gone this far. Good luck with Leinart fools!

This whole situation blows my focking mind. I mean they were three minutes from winning a superbowl and now you want to let a key ingredient walk, to a division foe no less, over 3 or 4 million? WTF?

I didn't know what to think about the boldin issue, but seeing this I may have to assume that the cardinals are worse run than the lions or the bengals, and that would be hard to do.

I own warner and leinart in my dynasty league so I am not too worried about this; I see leinart producing numbers. But, I can't see leinart winning games or running that offense anywhere near where warner was at.

plus, imagine warner leaves, boldin gets pissed of and sits out, where do you think that is going to leave the rest of the team? Fitz has got to be pissed.

Let's not kid ourselves here. Warner's a top 5 qb on Zona, top 15 on the 9ers. Leinarts in the 15-20 range on Zona. So which would you rather have? One stud qb or one above average qb and one average qb (fantasy speaking of course)

Don't get me wrong, I want Warner in Arizona, that is the best case scenerio. However, I think Leinart will do decently in Zona. I'd imagine he gets a lot of yards, where he will suffer is in the red zone so I'd imagine Leinart barely breaks 20TDs while warner pushes 28-30. I don't see much of a yardage difference... And Warner could be top 10 in frisco. I think people underestimate the role Gore would play in that offense (dude could push 80 catches)... Plus anything out of warner after the last 18 months is gravy from where I am standing...

Interesting move by Warner.

Since his family loves the Zona area so much, SF is a good fit and still close enough to that area.

It's a tough situation,Warner has earned the big payday but is also nearing the end of his career.

Man has weapons like crazy and has been mediocre at best. If a QB cannot be all world with Boldin and Fitz - he isn't even fit for Arena League!

one has to believe the motivation here is to get the perennially stubborn zona mgmt to acquiesce to his $$$/value demands.

he firmly believes [and has strong arguable basis] he is valued at and can command the $13-16M/yr range that other top qbs are collecting. he is, however, not the type of guy to make this issue overtly about the $$$; yet, at the end of the day, he too understands it is a business, both for he and the organization.

it is obviously very disconcerting to we fans that he is ambivalent on two scenarios that are almost polar opposites---one a wr talent desert, the other a wr talent oasis [in the desert].

I think Warner would make I. Bruce, Jason Hill, and Josh Morgan's numbers very impressive. Look what he did for Bryant Johnson as a WR3 and the Steve Breaston as a WR3. He's already very familiar with throwing to Isaac Bruce.

Arizona is trying to call Warner's bluff and will probably raise the stakes when they feel appropiate. I'd find it really hard to believe that Warner truly is eager to leave but if he feels his career is complete, and wants the money, good for him.

Arizona will then go back to being a disfunctional franchise after a one year hiatus.

Warner's new proposal

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner enjoyed his visit Monday to San Francisco, but his heart remains in the Valley, according to his agent.

So Mark Bartelstein made another contract proposal to the Cardinals on Tuesday. The 2-year, $23 million proposal includes $12 million in guarantees and is less than what the 49ers were offering, Bartelstein said.

Warner also instructed Bartelstein to tell the Cardinals that he would give up $1 million in each year of the deal if the team re-signed receiver Anquan Boldin.

“It’s a home run for the team,” Bartelstein said. “It’s much less than we can get on the market. We’re hoping we’re going to get a ‘yes.’”

The Cardinals had not yet responded to the offer and team officials were not immediately available for comment.

The deal is structured to give Warner some security in the second year, with the $12 in guarantees split between the two years.

The Cardinals have been offering $20 million over two years with $10 million guaranteed, all in the first year of the contract. Warner’s concern is that structure would make it easier for the team to release him in the second year of the deal.

By guaranteeing $6 million in the second year, the Cardinals would be less likely to part ways with Warner, who turns 38 this summer.

Some news reports had the Cardinals increasing the offer to $23 million, but Bartelstein said the additional money came through incentives, not salary or bonuses.

“They would have to get to the Super Bowl for Kurt to receive that,” Bartelstein said.

Warner and his wife Brenda enjoyed their trip to the 49ers facility, and Bartelstein lauded the 49ers.

“He really had a great visit,” Bartelstein said. “It really went well and it has really open his eyes. But Kurt’s heart is still here (in Arizona).”

Yea...more and more I think about this, more I think Warner is just using the Niners to get his bid up from the Cards.

First Manny, now Warner...I feel SO DAMN USED.

Seriously, who would rather throw to? Boldin and FItz? or Brandon Jones and Jason Hill?
