Are you buying all this Avatar hype?

Recommended Posts

It did 75 million this weekend, which is even more than last weekend. Maybe overtaking Titanic is possible for this movie? 212 mill over 2 weeks, i think Dark Knight outdid that, but i think the Avatar will have people who are on fence about it finally cave and watch it in 3-D since it "Has to be watched in 3-D".

Yeah, i have tried to see it 5 times, but something comes up everytime where i don't go. Maybe something is telling me not to waste my money?

BTW, i just saw inglorious Basterds, i was somewhat disappointed. I heard from a few realiable sources it was better than Pulp, it's not even CLOSE to Pulp.

Saw Avatar yesterday in IMAX 3-D - this is the way to see the movie - IMO.

The story wasn't as bad as I expected, though there were clear ripoffs of The Matrix and Dances With Wolves. In addition, the anti-Iraq war arc was way over the top for me. That said, the technology served the story in many ways, which I was glad of. There were only a few times where I thought the technology was used in a silly way.

The colors and imagery were impressive - though I still preferred the artistry / color of Hero or Crouching Tiger to Avatar, the movie did look beautiful.

It shouldn't win an Oscar as a good movie or anything, but it was a movie worth experiencing.

Saw it today.

The 3D tech was seriously nice. At first, a little hard to get used to. But I found that my eyes adjusted and it was the best 3D I have ever seen. The graphics/imagery was excellent.

The plot was a huge piece of tree hugging crap. Earth good, man bad. Americans Indians good, white man bad. That's the plot. Nature is interconnected, man destroys all. What a liberal piece of crap. I am cutting a tree tonight for no other reason than this movies plot.

But as far as 3 hour movies goes. It certainly didn't seem like 3 hours for all the 3D/tech/battle/love story stuff going on. Still, the plot was way overkill on the green planet crap.

Avatar is a great movie and watching it in 3D was awesome. Way worth shelling out the dough to watch it in the theatre.

SPOILER ALERT!

Yeah yeah I agree it was a little touchy feely... but whattyagonnado.... they obviously had to go that way if they were going to use the exploitation angle but I found the symbiotic way that the natives and the other life forms bonded to be pretty damned cool.... great concept that you don't have to really learn to ride anything... you bond with it and then just feel it... sweet concept.

That being said... I know he was the bad guy.... but that focking colonel was a motherfocking bad dude. I mean the sh!t my man. This air will kill you in 20 seconds.... he pops out holding his breath and blazes away.... gettting some .... the planes going down.. he gets his ass in his mech and jumps out fighting on the ground b!tches! That guy was the guy to hate but focking aye.... I loved that bad ass character.

You can all fock off... it was a greata show... delivered what I was looking for as a scifi junkie... reminded me of SOLDIER somewhat (highly under rated movie BTW)... just the imagery of the military.

I said at the end of the movie that marine was one serious badass I'd want with me in a dark ally. No quit, all balls.

I'll be going to see it tomorrow night with the family. Looks like I'll have to see it in Imax 3D...but man...shelling out $15 a ticket is crazy. Time to break out the large coats and big purses. I'm gonna bring my own damn popcorn, coke, and candy.

Saw it with the kids this weekend. Overall, it was worth the $$ because of the effects, but I have to say that I haven't been thrilled with a James Cameron movie since Aliens.

For a Sci Fi mega flick - Avatar was pretty much as good as it gets. The effects were maybe the greatest ever done , the story and acting while not quite Tarintino/Scorcese caliber didn't suck nearly as much as some make out -- maybe they were expecting something like that? :music_guitarred: If you went in expecting a cool sci fi flick - you ended up leaving happy! If you went in expecting a deep story , character development , and oscar winning acting - you are a dumbass to start with.

Yes it was kind of a Futuristic Dances with Wolves -- not seeing the Matrix really unless you stretch it a little. There is an obvious go green sentiment. Not sure if it was so much anti Iraq as it was anti war in general.

Anyhow if you want a cool sci fi flick 2 and 1/2 hours see it. if you want acting , etc -- see up in the air.

 It was incredible, i was actually shocked at how good it was. Definitely best movie of 2009.

Some people understand, others don't. Was a truly great film. Not since "The Fountain" has a movie made me feel the way Avatar did.

No some people expect Scorcese/Tarentino type character building and acting in every movie and ###### n moan when it doesn't measure up. This was a Sci Fi epic and IMO one of the best ever done in terms of visuals and overall story -- damn the acting wasn't bad and the story while predictable was actually pretty decent ( maybe 15 minutes to long though ). I can say that the acting in Avatar was 10X better than any Star Wars film ( minus Harrison Ford's Han Solo ).

Good thing is I hear this will be a trilogy as Worthington supposedly was already informed if it was a huge hit Cameron would make a trilogy out of it.

I saw it in regular theater for $6 on opening weekend. Immediately I hoped to get a chance to make it to see it either in IMAX or real-3D. It was that good to me and I'm sure has to be better when the visual effects can tote the price this movie used.

Yeah, don't buy into the "Plot sucks and acting sucks". Plot, while being somewhat predictable, is still very solid(there is one semi-major hole, but i even forgot what it was), story-line is just awesome, acting is actually very good. I mean, like previously said it's not the BEST plot/storyline/acting, but it is still very solid on all levels. I am usually not into those "fantasy world" movies but this world is VERY realistic and you believe everything throughout the movie, it is insane.

I saw it in real 3-D at the iMax, i think i will go see it again in the full iMax 3-d and see if it's any different. It does take a bit of time to get use to the 3-d.

Best movie of 2009 and one of the best of the decade.

I am thoroughly disappointed at the lack of talk about hot blue alien poon.

 Me and my friend discussed this afterwards. Zoe was the hottest Alien ever in this movie. The fact the chicks wore basically nothing was :dunno: . We noticed it wasn't normal human genitalia, for either gender, but the ta-tas were close enough for me.

IRL Zoe is actually pretty damn hot. As a Blue Alien chick  I guess if I was a blue Alien

I disagree, i should say for Aliens, she was fiiiiiiine. I would definitely hit it, just for the exotic-ness at the very least. Imagine what she could do with that tail

Went this weekend. Saw it in 3D and all I can say is WOW. Visually, it was probably the most incredible movie I have ever seen. Like someone else said, this is the reason to see a movie in the theatre.

The story was meh--could have been better but this was a great movie experience. Highly recommended.

Dood..Whats the matter with you? So because there are better movies out there, which there definitely are, that means no one should see this movie at all? Makes no sense. Take it easy will you?

A friend of mine bought me and my ten year old son this cool, kick-ass box of presents. One of the thing in there was a $30 gift card to go to the IMAX. So I will get to see this thing if it is still playing in a couple weeks or so.

Is this thing really 2 hours and 50 minutes?? If so, when is a good time to hit the head?? TIA No spoilers please.

BEFORE the movie, seriously, i never got why people can't go a whole movie without taking a piss. Maybe because my bladder is stretched out like a russian wh0res vag due to kayaking(can't really go without tipping it over).

saw it in 3d last week as the flick we went to see wasn't playing. And as such I force upon you my review of it.

The 3d was fun - a bit spotty at times.

The story was a bit slow and preachy at times.

Too much romance.. yeeesh.

And I didn't care for the ending.

That said

The only way to see it is 3d... i mean, i wont rent it or anything as it will be pointless in regular ol living room-D.

And it was worth admission to check out the seamless infusion of CG.... or of non CG.... W.

It had fiery explosions and large ridiculous weaponry, which i like, so that's a plus.

Slruc rating: Not a complete waste of money.
