Calling all GM Scratch Drafters

Recommended Posts

I am not saying I will run this thing but would like to see if we can get this thing rolling again this year.

Any takers from last year??

Anyone else interested??

"Scratch Drafter"? I'm not sure I know what that is. Are you talking about a mock NFL draft? If so, I have taken part in them in the past and would be in if one was set up here.

No. Last February there was 16 of us that drafted a full NFL team. I think we did 30 rounds using the current nfl player pool and then did a 4 round rookie draft. You can go to the "GM Scratch Draft" forum to see the rosters and how things turned out.

It took a couple weeks to complete as I think we allowed up to 12 hours to make a pick.

I suggest, if we get the same people, that we keep the rosters we drafted, have a drop period and then begin tweaking rosters fom the available NFL players and soon to be rookies. Or is the a start from scratch thing again?

I'd prefer doing it from scratch again. I know WhiteWonder wanted to draft his own roster and not just finish up the Moz's roster.

Two things I would like to see

1. Same owners as last year having the first option.

2. Start from scratch

I am open to all suggestions after that.

im a little biased because i didn't fully draft my team last year and really want a chance to do so

but i think drafting from scratch would also show how players rise and fall over the course of 1 nfl season and how our views of them change.

The Scratch Draft last year was fun...but I can't devote that much time to it again this year.

im in this year if you guys dont forget about me.

also only if Flahawker is in and takes Cutler no 3 overall..... :music_guitarred:

I'll take a 26 year old QB who has thrown 72 TDs over the last 3 years any day to start a franchise. I drafted him thinking he would be in Josh McDaniel's offense, not the Bears.

I am just busting your chops, even if he was in Mcdaniels offense still, you cant really defend that pick any more can you?

I bet there is at least 8 QB's that you would build your franchise around, TD's arent the only thing you look for, leadership, which I questioned way back when is more important, considering there has been at least 10 QB coaches or those with lower qualifications turn down a Job to be an OC says volumes about Cutlet.

Am I right?

PS I dont wanna turn this thread into a Cutler bash thread, there are plenty of those

I'll do it again. I agree in giving incumbents priority . . . but remember, we are not limited to 16. That was a choice we made so that we could get the thing moving.

But I am claiming my team unless SkiBum comes back in.

Yeah, me too. The GM Scratch Draft was an absolute blast last year. I learned more about other team's O-Lineman, D-Lineman, linebackers, and safeties than is humanly possible. I put more time into that than I did my actual fantasy football season. :headbanger:

However, it took up a huge amount of time for me and I just cannot commit this season. I will be sure to pop in though from time to time to offer opinions and smart ass comments..

I'd like to, but there is no way I will have enough time this year. And I don't think you all want to wait for me. Good luck and have fun though.

Looks like it is crashing and burning. I'm not real enthused for a do it from scratch again draft; I was hoping to tweek current rosters. If the consensus is to start from scratch, I am probably out too. Have fun! For any new guys, this is a lot fun!

We do have soem interest outside last years guys. Maybe we change the thread and start asking for new spots. I agree with everyone about how much was learned and the level of fun it was. I am sure we can find 12 to 24 people wanting to make Feb and part of March a little more fun.

I concur with Dr. Hook. I would also add this . . . to those who wanted to continue from what we had. It is limiting, because we don't actually get to keep our players, as a real GM would. There are many instances where trades, relocations, or different decisions by real NFL teams curtail what one has built.

sorry about the delay in responding...looks like the doctor needs to resuscitate this thing!

i think that draft was a great tool for learning and entertainment for all involved. obviously, we need to get as many as we can, but the true goal would be to improve our work from last yr. i think that would entail actually trying to fill a full 32 GM lineup, in order to make the rosters more realistic and somewhat easier to evaluate [last yr all our teams were doubly good since we only had the 16 participants]. if we cannot get more participants, maybe we allot each GM two teams to control and manage[?]

i'm in, let's see if we can get some knowledgeable and passionate GMs who have the time to commit.

[depending upon the numbers required, i have a handful of high caliber guys who followed this last yr through my comments to them and would be very interested to participate.]

32 would be awesome but possibly a headache to manage and I could envision it being slow as all hell.

16 like last year would probably be the minimum needed to make it good again.

i like the idea of each person having 2 teams from the angle that it would provide more realistic rosters without dealing with 32 spearate owners/time constraints. But I dislike it from the angle that managing multiple teams might take away form the experience on an individual level. For example, I already know how I would go about building my franchise. But if I have 2 franchises to build, might I end up neglecting one as I focusing on building the other? Would I pass on good players in an attempt to land them on my other franchise?

i hear you, but two things come to mind. first, i come back to the madden example: in madden franchise mode, for those who have used it, most have done it with multiple teams in a single franchise mode, allowing for differing methods of building [ie super defense, super offense, super rushing attack with hb and linemen, super pass attack, super coverage, etc]. second, i think the quality of the GMs we have participating [esp you ww] allow for the concoction of multiple franchise building ideas and the skill to "map out" those requirements. recall, the biggest chess match to that draft was learning as the draft unfolded what level of preference and importance GMs were placing on players and trying to map out where position values could be had.

i know my goal of 32 managers is a birthday gift of the highest asking, and was shooting high only to accept the notion of rounding up 16 strong participants and hope they are willing to pair up.

We are not limited to factors of 32. We should get as many owners as we can get. The multiple-team concept is something is something that can be explored after we determine how many we have in. If, for instance, we get 24 owners, we can consider the possibility for 8 adventurous owners who are willing to take on responsibility for two teams. I agree that many of our owners could, but time constraints, as well as natural bias, could limit that potential. Even within the scope of an owner having two teams that he likes equally, there is the risk that one draft starts to go askew, and the natural human leaning is to make sure that "at least one" of my teams is doing well.

Let's recruit heavy, and see what we've got first.

very correct :music_guitarred:

[as i'm sure most know, i'd begrudgingly accept the task of managing multiple teams with multiple design angles! ]

I think on principle alone, you ought to be saddled with at least three teams, just to counter your ADHD.

From what I am told about the way you draft, your team will still suck. :overhead:

last year was only 16 teams, 32 is gonna take forever

Im in for 16, out for 32

I kind of agree. 32 is a little too ambitious in my opinion. This would take the better part of 2 months. I thought 16 teams was a good number. 20-24 could be a possibility, but trying to draft EVERY player in the NFL is a bit too much in my opinion, especially when this thing is lacking much interest as is.
