Anyone else watching Obama getting OWNT at the Healthcare Summit?

Recommended Posts

The first low blow of the day:

Sen. John McCain slams the special deals inserted in the Senate health care bill, saying those should be removed so that the American people will know "that geography does not dictate what kind of health care they will receive."

Obama shoots back, "Let me just make this point, John, because we're not campaigning anymore. The election is over."

McCain interjects, "I'm reminded of that every day"

So instead of talking about (what you do in a summitt) the special interest deals in the Senate Bill our dear President throws a low blow and deflects/ignores. Nice. :first:

Definite bush league shot by Obama. It's funny that Obama doesn't want talk about all the garbage in the 2 bills that he was unwilling to scrap. What the hell does he expect to talk about? How many sad stories about the poor uninsured are they going to tell?

I was watching it at the time it was McCains turn to speak, and it seemed to me that all McCain did WAS talk about the current bill and it's problems.

Granted, he was a little mean to poor Obama, but not enough for the response given back to him.

Some of the back and forth between the congressmen was good...but man, there is no way Obama should be "moderating" this.

He is not doing himself any favors at all and is not coming off well from what I have seen.

Should have let someone else moderate.

Cantor is making Obama look like Tina Turner. Wow. :first:

Agreed. As did Ryan, Alexander, others. The Republicans clearly have a plan, and defer to others in their party who are prepared to talk on specific topics. The Democrats... keep bringing up letters they get from Aunt Maisie from Bumfock Mystate. And that lady from NY talking about how women used to not get their diseases addressed... Mkay, even Obama had nothing to add to that.

It seems that the Democrat strategy is to keep pounding on the "gee look, we have so much in agreement here" (despite multiple Republican attempts to point out that is not the case), and use that to justify reconciliation.

I heard on the radio that Lamar Alexander laid out the Rep positions, and then pointed out that the Reps had presented them 173 times on the Senate floor, only to be shot down.

So much for the Demwit claims that the Reps have had nothing to offer. :first:

I thought the point of this Summit was to iron out the difference between the two sides. McCain was pointing out how certain states and special interest groups got special treatment and noting that his state did not. It's a valid point and a concern many of us share. Due to the back room deal the Dems made with the Pharmaceutical companies, if this bill passes we will never have reimportation of drugs. Reimportation of drugs is universally acknowledged as a good way to reduce the costs of drugs. So I'm glad it was brought up and it seems like a valid point for discussion at this summit. If not here, when should it be brought up?

But Obama wants to focus on the areas where both sides agree. Why? Those are pretty well known and it's the areas they disagree on that are holding up passage of a bill. Of course, the areas where they disagree make the Dems look like fools so they don't want to discuss them.

Exactly.

It was supposed to be, anyways.

(that is what I said, you know)

Obama should focus on not getting embarrassed anymore after the lunch break.

Seriously, he should let someone else moderate. He is defenseless when the Reps are picking the bill apart. He's like a kid that shows up for his book report and he only read the back cover.

So after this Summit is over, when they use Reconciliation to ram this through, they will say: "We felt we needed to pass this Bill this way because we all had so many things we agree on, I as President didn't wan't a few little tidbits to derail the whole thing.

Gotta love this exchange...........Obama is flailing away. I guess there is no teleprompter there.

Before breaking for lunch, Alexander's Republican colleague Jon Kyl read from a November 2009 letter from CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf to Democratic Senator Evan Bayh. In that letter, Elmendorf stated that the average premium for individual policies would be about 10 to 13 percent higher in 2016 than the average premium for the same policy under current law.

The President once again defended his policy, "If I now have the opportunity to actually buy a decent package inside the exchange that costs be about 10 to 13 percent more but is actually real insurance then they're going to be a bunch of people who take advantage of that," he said. "So yes, I'm paying 10 to 13 percent more because instead of buying an apple I'm getting an orange. They're two different things."

The only problem is the GOP is "winning" this summit. The Dems wanted to make the GOP look bad so they could ram this through. But a CNN poll someone mentioned over at FBG's says only 25% of the public want this bastard bill passed. I don't think they can pass it with that level of DIS approval.

I normally steer clear of the the talking heads at night, but I'm gonna most certainly check out Keith Olberman's show tonight. I have to see how he is gonna spin this. I fully expect his head to explode right on camera. It should be great comedy.

I don't get how these dummies think they can force insurance companies to give coverage to everyone and charge less for coverage. Either they are smart and know that this will force them out of business so they can implement universal care or they are dumber than rocks.

They know that it will cost more and don't give a sh1t. It's just one step in the direction of a single payer. That's the real goal.

I could have predicted the right wingers slant on the summit meeting even before it took place. I have a feeling most of you guys haven't even watched or heard it. I'm sure you guys will even have more talking points after Fox news tells you what to think.

Maybe the Prez should listen to what the people want, and they don't want this bill.

I'll have to get back to you. It's still going on so I'm reserving judgement. I will say that both sides have made valid points but I'm sure their won't be a meeting of the minds.

This alone should tell you that that the President is losing badly for none of these points you feel the republicans are making are being considered in this summit!! This is about getting together on what Barrack wants, and he's failing badly.

The resident Obamabots certainly have no comments. C'mon Nubbie, tell us how extra-special awesome your Messiah is doing.

1. I'm at work and haven't even seen one second of it.

2. For the millionth time (and I know you have a hard time wrapping your head around this), I'm against the healthcare bill. Not quite the 'blind sheep' you like to portray me as. ;)

The funny part is, you're probably at work and not watching, too, but still feel compelled to act like you know what's going on. That's classic RP. :music_guitarred:

I like this guy from Wisconsin, Paul Ryan. Speaks clearly in simple terms.

He is the best point man for the republicans as he has been constantly out in front of the Pres with alternatives that the Pres never read, or would even admit to existing. He is tearing this summit up.
