McNabb is now a Redskin

Recommended Posts

i honestly dont buy kolb being that great, his passing yards as a starter aside.

McNabb deserved way more respect and credit than he got... but hey, thats Philly fans.

Anyone else think Andy Reid will be smiling on the inside when the Redskins beat the Eagles next year?

For years, whenever Eagles fans have defended McNabb and their team, they've been slammed He's a loser, a choker. Will never win a big game. TO was his fault. SB loss was his fault. Kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, his fault.

Now, when the team makes a trade...you do understand the fans don't orchestrate the deals, right?...we suddenly haven't given him enough credit or respect over the years.

Why do you hate this trade so much? I'm a diehard fan too, and I like this trade. McNabb should be a top 10-15 QB for the next 3-5 years and he is a proven winner. Campbell is not the answer, and this trade signifies they are finally moving on. I didn't want to waste another year with Campbell behind center.

I hate this move because, first of all, I hate Mcnabb. Second, this has nothing to do with Campbell but it would have been nice to trade Jason before you made this move. I mean, what is his trade value now? Is he less or more valuable after this trade? He's gotta be close to worthless now that everyone knows we've already moved on. Third, I was ready to rebuild with a young QB and now, it just seems we've got a stop gap in place with a team with too many holes. We're not ready to contend anytime soon and we just gave away MORE draft picks.

I hope I'm wrong but... I'd rather err on the side of not bringing in a cacksucking iggle.

I was surprised to hear Andy Reid on the Mike and Mike radio show this morning saying "I made the final decision to trade McNabb to the Redskins." In a way it's a slap in the face to McNabb because the Eagles are saying he won't be a threat but at the same time it's kind of respectful to trade him to a team that can win a Superbowl in 3 years.

Mike and Mike brought up an interesting point. When Shannahan took over the Broncos, Elway was older than McNabb and had less numbers in all of the stat categories but still managed to get 2 Superbowl rings out of him. With Portis, Willie Parker, Larry Johnson and his next RB draft, the Redskins could make some serious noise in the NFC North. I don't know how much the Redskins are willing to give up for Brandon Marshall but a 3rd rd and Albert Haynesworth would be nice.

Another scenario would be to trade him to the Lions for Megatron since Haynesworth played under Jim Schwartz in TN. There were rumors last year that Detroit wanted to trade Calvin Johnson and I'd be willing to give up Albert and conditional 1st round pick for him.

I agree with most of this....it is focking weird that McNabb is a redskin, although I never hated the guy. Campbell is now worthless, but it wasn't like we were going to get a decent draft pick anyways. I would be on board for a young QB, but the o-line is so bad that he would get rocked. Now we can use the 4th pick on Okung. Hopefully we sign/draft a serviceable starter on the right side and the line suddenly becomes adequate.

Shanahan is a running back coach specialist and Portis played under him in Denver before he was traded to Washington. Willie Parker is the prototype RB for his system. He is fast and doesn't have to dance in the backfield with this blocking scheme. LJ I think is garbage and I'd release him and sign Westbrook but I seriously doubt that will happen. We all know Shanahan can make a nobody into somebody at running back so that's why I included the RB draft.

Instead of focking around with David Carr, the Niners should have closed this deal a month ago. With McNabb they would run away with the division and possibly be capable of doing some damage in the playoffs over the next couple season. Arizona should have given it more consideration too.

Seattle isn't as far along as the Niners. I wouldnt want to see the Hawks trading for a veteran QB (around) the same age as Hasselbeck until the O-line and defense are in better shape.

The Cards and Niners are far better equipped for playoff runs. Even the Rams are in better shape on the O-line, and adding McNabb would give them the flexibility to add Suh to several other highly drafted defenders, all playing under Spagnolua. They also have that Steven Jackson guy.

first of all, i never said the fans orchestrated a trade. I simply said they didn't appreciate McNabb enough.

secondly, I know plenty about Philly fans and have had enough experience around them. There are cool Philly sports fans but as a whole they are some of the worst in sports. And I have always maintained that they didn't embrace the guy and give him credit for the success the team had.

All that stuff you said in your first sentence about him being a loser and a chocker is the stuff I heard from philly fans for years.....

Westbrook & Sceams & Def & now D. Jackson to me was why Phily was good..... McNabb's dink and dunks to Westy who took it to the house made him look better then he was. Or McNabb runs up the score against weak teams, but throws at the wides feet against good teams.

I'm not a Phily fan, but I also think McNabb is overrated and somewhat of a choker and is overrated by the media and others. McNabb is a good player, but he's not all that.

He didn't win them a Championship in the 11 years and they've had PLENTY of talent around him.

They respected McNabb just fine in Phily - It was time to go get value why they could. Good move by Phily!

Not sure Wash was the right place to move him, but they probably got the most value from them.

In my view: Westbrook was the better player in Phily those years and why they did so well along with the Def.

Lifelong Philly fan. 40+ years. Feel pretty comfortable with my knowledge of the fan base and city/area.

The generalizations about Philly fans have been beaten into the ground for years by folks with no real knowledge of anything. You still see and hear idiots talking about Santa and snowballs.

Eagles fans filled the stadium, game after game, during McNabb's career. Just as they've done forever whether the team is good, bad or indifferent. The team sells tons of merchandise, and there's never been any shortage of #5 jerseys out there.

Did everybody love Donovan? No more or less than everybody loves the starting QB in any city without a QB named Peyton or Brady. Ask New Yorkers about Eli. Pitts fans about Ben. And, as of last evening, Skins fans about McNabb. Got any unanimous decisions?

Just because you maintain that a flaw exists, in a fan base that you want to see as flawed, it doesn't make it fact.

i realize you are a philly fan, just understand that im not flippantly throwing ###### out there. based on where i grew up, going to school minutes away from eagles TC, having family members who are die hard eagle fans... i feel safe formulating an opinion.

and my opinion is that McNabb didn't get the credit he deserved for the success that team had in a SB appearance, 4 NFC championship games, division titles etc.

obviously you gave him credit. thats great, im not saying all Philly fans are the same, that would be assenine.

Eagles and McNabb fan here, and I'm pretty disappointed.

I was 100% okay with trading McNabb because his contract was expiring, there's no chance the team was going to resign him, and he's always been a terrible fit for this system. McNabb is a class act all the way and he's got a great arm and limits mistakes. He's also one of the most mobile QBs in the league, although he uses his legs more to buy time in the pocket than take off the way he did early in his career.

What bugs me is dealing McNabb to a division rival for nothing but a 2nd and a 3rd (maybe). The asking price has got to be higher if you're willing to trade a QB of that caliber within the division. I just can't believe the Eagles couldn't have gotten more for DMac, especially if they waited until draft day. There are so many teams out there desperate for QBs - a low first or even a pair of seconds is a very small price to pay for a guy who, at worst, is in the upper half of QBs in the league for the next 3-4 years. Why make this deal and create the possibility that McNabb embarrasses the Eagles 2x per year?

Trying to look on the bright side, McNabb is a very streaky QB - he will look brilliant at times but there are always games when McNabb couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. A team that insists on passing the ball 60-65% of the time can't afford a QB who's prone to throwing the ball at receivers' ankles. I don't know that Kolb is going to be the kind of precision passer the Eagles need but I know McNabb isn't that guy.

The other possible plus is that Reid has historically run a more balanced offensive attack when McNabb's been out, so there's the chance that he'll try to protect Kolb by developing the running game McNabb never had. One thing is for sure - the Eagles really need to hit it out of the park on this draft. Here's hoping for Iupti and the best FS and LB on the board in the first two rounds.

I agree with you on most points. Peter King from SI pointed out that if you take the both picks, add up the 'points' attached to their value, it comes out to about the 26th overall pick in this year's draft. So essentially, they got a first round pick for him in a deep draft for defenders.

Let's face it, neither team is going anywhere if:

1. The Redskins don't improve their pass protection.

2. The Eagles still have the same defense as 2010.

Very difficult to rate the trade at this point before the draft has taken place. Methinks this question should be addressed after the draft.

As an Eagle fan and McNabb fan, I'm pissed they traded him within the division. And I'm not the only one...

McNabb was a lightning rod for the local media. Truth is, EVERY QB that's ever played for the Eagles has been a lightning rod for the local media.

A majority of fans cheered loudly for McNabb while he was here. He was also voted as the greatest QB in franchise history when the team posed the question on a poll conducted on their website.

Say what you want, the guy won 65% of his games, he wasn't the greatest or most accurate thrower, and he played 'not so well' in some big games. But let me tell you, alot of the Eagles played 'not so well' in those big games, and alot of coaches didn't 'coach so well' in those big games, neither.

He also played very well in some big games, most notably against Atlanta in the NFC Championship Game, the Chicago playoff game in 2000, the Packers playoff game, etc.

Overall, good NFL QB who did great things for the franchise and city but the relationship got stale and it was time to move on. The team has too many other deficiencies to overcoma at this point to be considered a contender, so a plan is in place to return to that point again.

Can't say it any simpler than that.

2nd Round pick this year and a 3rd or a 4th next year.

what I am surprised at is the low price they had to pay.

as it is a division rival, I would have expected at least a first round pick in compensation.

this deal would have been ok if it was to a division in the other conference, but what you dont want is for McNabb to have 2 chances a year to make you pay for trading him away.

This trade may be good for my dynasty draft, but I dont think it's good for the eagles.

The Eagles would have been to the SB 2 more times if not for Reid. His coaching under pressure was way worse than any accuracy troubles McNabb had. McNabb made Reid look better than he is, and that will show this year.

I think Reid modified his normal west coast offense to fit Donovan's strengths. In 2002, he went 5-1 down the stretch with a more traditional west coast offense when Detmer/Feeley were filling in for an injured McNabb. In 2006, he went 5-1 down the stretch with a more traditional west coast offense when Garcia was filling in for an injured McNabb. The only other backup who any significant playing time was Mike McMahon who was horrible and filled in for McNabb after the whole TO debacle. He was not successful.

I think the Eagles will be just fine with Kolb, if Reid goes back to a more traditional west coast offense. If he throws it as much with Kolb as he did with McNabb, then yes, the Eagles may struggle because there will be to much pressure on Kolb to do it all.

Even as an Eagle fan, I have to say it's a toss-up at this point. The Eagles have previous issues identifying defensive talent thru the draft, which explains some of the glaring holes in their defense.

Granted, the Skins only have a few picks available, but they have a high enough pick, to get a LT, who can make an impact on their squad. Additionally, it's really gonna depend on Shenanihan, if he's gonna predominantly run the ball, if he can develop a passing game with what they have, etc.

Too much reliance on the pass and always too many clock management issues in the last 5 minutes of a game. Those are on the coach, and I think it hurt the team under pressure. Just my opinion though.

I know Reid messed up in calling a TO right before the 2 minute warning last year against Oakland which allowed them to run or pass and then they got a 1st down to ice the game. Other than that, I have a hard time remembering all the time management mistakes that cost the Eagles wins. I am not trying to be argumentative, I just don't remember any. If you have some please let me know.

I am definitely a Reid guy. McNabb was a great QB for the Eagles, but I still think Andy Reid has more to do with the Eagles overall success over the last ten years than McNabb. I keep thinking about 2002 and 2006 when McNabb got injured, that the Eagles seasons were over. Instead, with back-ups, the Eagles actually improved their winning percentage both years, made the playoffs and won playoff games (in 2002, McNabb came back for the playoffs).

2002 with McNabb: 7-3

2002 with Detmer/Feeley: 5-1

2006 with McNabb: 5-5

2006 with Garcia: 5-1

The only other season McNabb missed significant time was 2005 when the TO fiasco occured. Notice that without TO McNabb was 0-2 compared to McMahon's 2-5. QB was less of a factor in the teams overall 6-10 record that year, than was the 27th ranked defense which gave up 388 points:

2005 with McNabb, TO: 4-3

2005 with McNabb (no TO): 0-2

2005 with McMahon (no TO): 2-5

Based on the 3 seasons above, the back-ups listed had a record of 12-7 all without TO. In those same seasons, McNabb had a record of 12-10, not including the games McNabb had TO in 2005. This is why I think the Eagles will be fine without McNabb, because Reid has shown that he can win without him.

Unfortunately, the Eagles may not be able to win now unless they pick up some more defensive talent. Hopefully, they have set themselves up to do that in the draft.

provided they make good use of those picks, then you have a point. But its not always as simple as just saying a team now has a lot of picks so they are set for the future.

to use my home team, the Jets have made a living in recent drafts by trading away quantity of picks. They don't end up with alot of players to show for it but they have certainly improved and look to be set for the future (Sanchez, Greene, Keller, Revis, Harris)

If the Redskins make better use of their 2 picks including the 4th overall and have obtained a proven comodity in McNabb, they could easily be in better shape.

If the Eagles make sure they continue to draft as they have been, they may be in better shape...time will tell. The other part of the equation for the Eagles will be having Kolb turn out to be what they hope he is, but what no one else has really seen.

I absolutely agree with this. Reid has alot of misses in the draft between rounds 2-5 when it comes to defenders.

I am also curious to see the types of defenders they draft. Will they be system guys (ie, smaller, quicker guys) to fit in or the best athletes available, with size and speed?

One thing that really chaps my azz when it comes to their defense and philosophy is their penchant for getting physically dominated. The last two games against Dallas pretty much showed that they lack size and speed on that side of the ball.

And for all the folks who want to blame McNabb for the 'big game' losses, one can also put some of the blame on the defense as well. Was that because of the scheme or the personnel on the field?

Frankly speaking, I believe it's always been the scheme. With the scheme comes the player to fit the scheme, and it rolls downhill from there.

As a Skins fan, I point the finger at the defense! PERIOD!! Mcnabb is scoring points but the defense went from top 5 to not being able to stop a bunch of blind nuns.

McNabb is scoring points? WTF are you talking about? The defense is what won them their 4 games this year. The Redskins are first in the league in turnover differential but in the mid 20's in points off of turnovers. They're also 22nd in the league in points per game. Face it, McNabb is a bust.

Also, do you think the defense might have got tired yesterday after the 30th 3 and out by the offense?
