peenie 2,022 Posted June 1, 2010 every time i drive my car there is a burning plastic smell. it's a 2007 honda civic and i just got a 30,000 mi thing done to it in january so it should still be in good shape. i currently have 32,000 miles on it. why do you think it smells like burning plastic, especially in the car whenever i drive? Chances are rubber hose you use for siphoning gas came loose in there when you hid it. It prolly got caught up in the serpentine belt or stuck on the manifold. It turned out to be plastic burning. i called the honda service department and the guy said that i may have a plastic bag caught up inside the car and it may have melted. he said not to bring it in until i've look thoroughly through the car. he said the plastic bag could've melted everywhere.
