Stuff they make me do in Medical School

Recommended Posts

Spelling the word "competency" wrong in a post where you question someone else's competency, is just delightfully ironic.

I'm still not quite sure why you're so obsessed with MedStudent's posts in the first place.

Oh, wait, that's right...he has different political views than you do.

My guess is that if GoColts or one of your other brainless, boot-licking cronies was sharing stories about medical school instead of collecting his disability check from the "gubmint" while watching Fox News & eating Fruit Loops in his mom's basement, you wouldn't go out of your way to click on his post to accuse him of being a narcissistic attention ######.

Congratulations, you are so completely predictable, that you've basically become a parody of yourself.

Now go back to posting dancing bananas and try not to dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back for your witty comebacks.

YEA...Jonny Ringo is back

Even though you seem to be a dooshebag liberal, (and obvious alias)you have tickled my funny bone more then once in the past.

See my sig

Since you went out of your way to click on my post and make accusations against me, does this mean you are "obsessed" with me? :dunno:

Not familiar with the prose of Johnny Ringo, but that was an excellent diatribe on RP. I hope he posts more.

How sad for you Medstoopid.

Some guy rifles through my posts and finds a werd I spelt rong, and there are about a half dozen posts about it. Yet here we are on post forty-something and nobody has said "Hey Medstoopid, post more of your diary entries.....we love reading about your life".

Apparently my spelling gaffes hold more interest around here than your pathetic life. :overhead: :overhead: :overhead:

First off, I am not looking for self gratification by posting this stuff. Just trying to give a little insight into a world most of you don't know about. Obviously all you think people want to read about is Obama.

I like reading threads where people actually tell you something about their life that you can't find on a million other blogs/sites. edjr telling us about the awesomeness of his job and his tribulations about his gf's pregnancy, Newbie telling us about ripping apart his arm, jets24 telling us about his fat wife, suxbnme telling us about his cooking adventures, his dorky years, and his sodding adventure, BLS telling us about his gf and her ex loser boyfriend and trying to get her to move back North, Voltaire telling us about China....there are many more.

Its funny that you never complain when other people tell about their jobs or their life but when I do it, I am looking for people to beg for more? That is why even other posters see how obsessed you are with me.

Why do you continually regurgitate the drudge report in your threads? I don't see anybody saying "Hey Recliner Putz, post more drudge report articles.....we love reading about your insightful political views."

I gave Sux a hard time about his cooking vids. Difference is, he didn't whine about it.

So it came as no surprised to me that my resident subsequently instructed me to hold up the patient's testicles for thirty minutes while he did some suturing.

Hmmmm. I had to do the same thing when I went to Pope school.

Any of you old focks remember the TV show Emergency!? Apparently the hospital where I am starting my inpatient surgery rotation was the hospital they used for the TV show. Someone said it was called Rampart.

I think I'm going to see some serious action at this hospital. we're about 5 miles away from compton. The area immediately around the hospital seems Ok but I'm not going to do any exploration of the neighborhoods in the vicinity. I need to get a tuneup for my car.

This rotation is where the 4 AM - 11 PM day is standard, where taking call means actually staying functional for 36 hours straight, and where my life ends for a while. So, bring on the bloods and the crips, I'm ready to start cutting up some bodies! :overhead:

 Gotta agree. The most interesting threads are the personal stories. Keep it up Med. We want to hear about you having to finger an 80 year fagina to check for some lumps or something. It's absolutely something I know nothing about. :D

Why on earth do they make doctors/interns work 36 hour days...besides free labor, what do they expect you to learn/do well some 30 hours into a rotation.

Medical residencies traditionally require lengthy hours of their trainees. Early residents literally resided at the hospitals, often working in unpaid positions during their education. During this time, a resident might always be "on call" or share that duty with just one other practitioner. More recently, 36-hour shifts were separated by 12 hours of rest, during 100+ hour weeks. The American public, and the medical education establishment, recognized that such long hours were counter-productive, since sleep deprivation increases rates of medical errors. This was noted in a landmark study on the effects of sleep deprivation and error rate in an Intensive-care unit.[2] The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has limited the number of work-hours to 80 hours weekly (averaged over 4 weeks), overnight call frequency to no more than one overnight every third day, 30 hour maximum straight shift, and 10 hours off between shifts. While these limits are voluntary, adherence has been mandated for the purposes of accreditation, though lack of adherence to hour restrictions is not uncommon.

I have no focken clue on that. I don't know how it all got started but I wish it would end. The only reason I could ever see requiring that is if you were training to be in war zone or something. Some of the surgeries can be pretty intense and drag on for hours and hours but I think real reason why they have it is because the Doctors think that they had to go through with it so they believe we should go through it. Kind of a rite of passage.

You are training for an emergency. I'm suprised they didn't tell you this. You live in earthquake central. I imagine there are 10 to 15 emergency room doctors, on staff or call, maybe more. If there is a major earthquake, you'll be spending more than thirty six hours at a time treating. That's also why ER Doctors get paid big bucks coming out of school.
