RicemanX 20 Posted April 14, 2011 I've been strongly contemplating a tattoo for a few years now, I know exactly what I want and where I want it (TWSS), but I just wonder... did any of you get a tattoo when you were younger, and then 10-15-20 years later regret that you got that tattoo? I have several Tattoos and cant say I regret any of them.. One thing I will say is dont try to keep it small, I have a few from my late teens that I thought I would keep small for whatever reason. maybe pain/money/hiden/?? They have over the years lost alot of detail and for that I do have regrets.. more just wished they looked better because I feel I have waisted a peice of skin that may have been perfect for a larger/better tattoo... does that make sense to anyone else?? MDC 7,883 Posted April 14, 2011 Seriously, I have "sleeves" on both arms (shoulder to elbow), and multiple large tattoos on my back. I've never regretted any of them, and I work in a pretty buttoned up business atmosphere. It's only skin.
Yer mom 2 Posted April 14, 2011 I've got a ripped rebel flag on my right forearm with a Faith conji inside of it, totally custom to what I wanted based on my life path. The only bummer is the occasional person who thinks im for the Conferderates, i just esplain. I like it, and can cover it with long sleeve shirts for business purposes. I would sugget getting it in a place that is covered most of the time though, then you can only regret it nekkid
Phurfur 70 Posted April 14, 2011 I never was a tattoo guy so I figured I'd jump in when tattoos were associated with intelligence. The way I remember it is that the tattoo/piecing fad was started by Dennis Rodman.

MDC 7,883 Posted April 14, 2011 Playing Fleet foxes on vinyl right now? Way too mainstream. I'm listening to this guy from New Guinea who makes songs out of old Atari noises and records albums on a Fisher Price 4-track.

I've never regretted any of them, and I work in a pretty buttoned up business atmosphere. It's only skin. +1 I have an ugly tattoo on my shoulder that I got almost 20 years ago. It's all faded and crappy looking, but I still don't regret it. The tat sucks, but it reminds me of a really fun time of my life. I can't imagine ever hating a tattoo. I'd personally stay away from my lower arms/legs and neck, but that's just to please my mom. I'm actually getting my latest tat finished Easter Sunday. It's a half sleeve that wraps around my shoulder too. Been working on it for almost 2 years now. I work for a pretty conservative company in the most conservative County, west of Texas. Lots of the senior executives have tattoo's, so it's really a non-issue these days. I've got the skinny jeans, black framed glasses, full complement of Apple products, and the smug sense of superiority. I'm working on my super-obnoxious facial hair. Haha, you're like my brother from another mother. PS. Drobeski is never going to shut up about your jeans. He's a jealous old fatty! Way too mainstream. I'm listening to this guy from New Guinea who makes songs out of old Atari noises and records albums on a Fisher Price 4-track. is his name Sense? Maybe he's from Australia. Released records on Neo Ouija, Merck, etc. Can't tell if you're joking, because there really are people who do that!
cbfalcon 827 Posted April 14, 2011 I've got 2 (both on my left arm well above the sleeve), and am planning on getting a 3rd (right side of chest) here in the next few months. Maybe tattoos as a whole will be seen as a fad one day and I'll regret it, but no regrets thus far. 2 things I didn't want to do: 1. I wanted them to be hidden because I always want to be able to wear short sleeves, yet still look professional. 2. And more importantly, one thing I was careful not to do is to get a "fad tattoo". That being barbed wire, chinese writing, tribal, or anything that lots of people have. Just get something personal and make it original. As long as you aren't faking or being phony with whatever the tattoos motivation/inspiration is, then there shouldn't be much to regret.

penultimatestraw 473 Posted April 14, 2011 I'd rather have tattoos than herpes. In Nikki's defense, about 20% of the US population has antibodies to the virus that causes genital herpes (indicating they've been exposed, this % is higher in females than males). Just most are asymptomatic, so they don't know they have it And, spare yourself the tattoo; they are a passing fad that will just hide incipient skin cancers. OldMaid 2,135 Posted April 14, 2011 I have a fleur-de-lis tattoo on my ankle and have had only a couple of occasions when I wish it wasn't there. Thankfully I don't work in an environment where I have to wear a skirt or dress everyday. I also have a Celtic knot on my back shoulder but it has never been a problem since unless I'm wearing a tank top or something strapless, you can't see it. And I do it with no regrets. Sometimes I get really drunk, but I hide it from view of my colleagues because doing it in front of them would look unprofessional. And I do it with no regrets. The Next Generation 11 Posted April 14, 2011 Nope, since I never got any. Went to get one once at a Van-in (huge gathering of vans on a fairground for the weekend...much debauchery) back in the day when I was like 18 or something. The guy was doing them out of the back of his van and I was trashed, but totally ready to get one. When I got there he was cleaning-up for the night and said, "come back in the morning and if you still want one, I'll give you one then." I was bummed, but re-thought it the next day and didn't go back. Never felt then urge to get one after that.

So the only time your tatoos are visible is when you are not wearing a shirt, right? Then I am assuming you are only getting them for your own personal viewing pleasure and not to make some sort of a statement to others. It seems to me like a somewhat of a contradiction. But don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it at all. It just seems strange to me. That and I don't get why people get tatoos on their back. Can't even see them yourself.
