cbfalcon 827 Posted April 14, 2011 So the only time your tatoos are visible is when you are not wearing a shirt, right? Then I am assuming you are only getting them for your own personal viewing pleasure and not to make some sort of a statement to others. It seems to me like a somewhat of a contradiction. But don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it at all. It just seems strange to me. That and I don't get why people get tatoos on their back. Can't even see them yourself. Anybody can see any of my tattoos anytime they want. That includes bosses, coworkers, parents, etc. Tattoos are a lot like t shirts, ballcaps, or sneakers. There is nothing wrong with them. But they aren't appropriate for many workplaces. Simple as that.

IGotWorms 4,063 Posted April 14, 2011 I've never really had an urge to get a tatoo. When I think about it, everything that I thought was cool 10 years ago now seems super-lame. Why would I want to make something like that permanent? Better to stick to a hat or piece of clothing; that way you can toss it out when you finally realize that only d0uchebags wear "Affliction" shirts or stupid rubber bracelets that say sh!t like "courage". kilroy69 1,268 Posted April 16, 2011 I got drunk at 18 and got goaded into getting a rebel flag on my arm with a bunch of buddies. Woke up the next day and was horrified. I waited a week for it to heal and got a grim reaper holding a tommy gun. I regret them both...but the 2nd would not have happened if the first had not. I have 2 others that I like just fine and the cover up is so good YOU can't tell anything was even there. I can though.

Drizzay 745 Posted April 16, 2011 I like mine, 8 years later. It needs to be touched up at some point, and it is not toally finished, but no regrets. I might get two more as well.

Dr.Grimm 0 Posted April 16, 2011 100% agree. I have a personality....i dont need a conversation piece. Oh and nobody gives a crap what your _____ (Insert stupid symbol here) ...says about you on your arm. Most tattoos say the same thing. A person who has one(Or more) is into self body mutilation. There is an exception though. Military ones. Like the one RLLD mentioned.
NewbieJr 541 Posted April 16, 2011 I have one. Popeye. Outside left ankle. no regrets. Had it for over twenty years. It doesn't show at functions I wouldn't want it to show at. I always laugh when I see these kids with full sleeves or neck tattoos. They don't realize that one day they're going to be sitting at a job interview and being taken out of consideration before even opening their mouths.

SUXBNME 1,595 Posted April 17, 2011 That would be the only situation where I would consider a tatoo. You should do it man. Acreed. If I wasn't such a poosay and joined the armed services before, I would have for sure got a tattoo like what RLLD described. Do it, dude
cbfalcon 827 Posted April 17, 2011 Conversely, the only reason I'd ever consider joining the Marines is for the cool tattoo I could get.

listen2me 23 1,952 Posted April 17, 2011 I have none. I would be open to get one. That said, I think people get them for dumb reasons. I don't need ink on my skinto remember a person who passed. I don't get dumb random tatoos, seems like people get them just too be cool or do something. I am not against people with them, and I sort of get them. I just have no clue why I would get one, and haven't yet.

cbfalcon 827 Posted April 17, 2011 Uh, only difference is you can take off the hat or shirt, or sneaker. Tattoos, you can't. And many people I see have them be irrelevant after 5-10 years and it makes no sense. I don't mean to sound overly casual, but it really is just some ink on some skin. Why does it have to be relevant in 10 years? As long as it's relevant when you get it, it can simply serve as a reminder/snapshot of that time. No different than a scar in that regard, except you have control and it's usually a reminder/snapshot of something positive. And if the primary concern is something not "looking cool" in 20 years, then that's some vanity that may need to be more thought out. Because most of us won't look all that cool in 20 years regardless. Except me of course.
ens189 1 Posted April 17, 2011 Absolutely not a regret of mine, when my son was 2 months old I got a tattoo of his footprints over my heart. His name is above it and his birthday is below them. The cool thing is our artist was so good she traced every indent his feet made on the paper and I have damn near a carbon copy of his little feet on my chest. Only negative on this is we're about to start trying for our second child and I hope he/she never regrets being on the right side of my chest instead of right over my heart. shotsup 835 Posted April 17, 2011 when my son was 2 months old I got a tattoo of his footprints over my heart. And he'll be stepping on your heart for years to come .............. Just don't tell child number 2 the significance of son's footprints over heart just that you have your children's footprints on your chest for the rest of your life or something like that..
