Lloyd put on trading block..

Recommended Posts

Citing three NFL sources, the Denver Post reports the Broncos have placed WR Brandon Lloyd on the trading block.

The asking price is a draft pick in the Round 3-5 range. "Three or four" teams have expressed interest, including the Titans and Panthers. As a 30-year-old coming off a career season and set to hit free agency in 2012, Lloyd is an obvious trade candidate for a rebuilding team. With Demaryius Thomas and Eddie Royal returning from injuries, there's depth at the position while the offenses goes into ball control mode under Tim Tebow.

What's the fantasy impact here?

This is quite interesting and I will investigate and comment further. I did read that article by Mike Klis, but on the face of it this doesn't make too much sense.

It is really hard to imagine promoting Tebow to starting QB and simultaneously taking away his best weapon, but I've seen teams do stranger things. Demaryius Thomas has no ability to run anything but go routes, and had exactly 22 NFL catches before his injury. Royal can run routes, but has extreme difficulty adjusting to defenses mid-route. Both are limited. Decker does everything well once he's open, but he sometimes has trouble getting separation. The only really well rounded receiver Denver has is Lloyd, and while he personally preferred and was a vocal Orton supporter, he had great rapport with Tebow late last season.

Yes I know that Fox favors a game-manager ball control style, but I don't believe that Tebow is capable of being a check-down progression-reading ball control QB (at least at this stage), but rather a 'on the fly' downfield gunslinger more in the mode of Elway himself.

On the other hand, Lloyd is 30 years old and a free agent next year. But any team who gets Lloyd for a 4th or 5th rounder (maybe even less) would be getting a huge bargain.

Bump up Erik Decker.

Bump Lloyd.

Wow, Denver is a very poorly run organization.

Homer : Aw ... The Denver Broncos !?!

Marge : I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.

Homer : Yeah, yeah.

Marge : Well, explain to me why it isn't.

Homer : You just don't understand football, Marge.

I'm thinking the Titans have seen the devastating impact that losing Britt has caused..and will jump on Lloyd (pure speculation, I haven't heard anything)

I thought Lloyd might actually put up decent #'s w/ Tebow since he did pretty well with him the 3 games Tebow started last year. Who would be the WR on DEN that might benefit the most if Lloyd leaves? (Granted, w/ Tebow starting it may not mean much, but whoever this WR is he might be worth a flyer).

I think the trading deadline is tuesday so at least this won't be dragged out.

 If I'm St Louis, I offer a 3rd rounder before denver wakes up tomorrow!

Why would you give up a third round pick when you are clearly still in the middle of rebuilding?

you cant have a young QB with nobody to throw to. if they dont bring someone in for him, they run the risk of ruining his confidence and him as a player.

Lloyd would give him that veteran presence he needs and I think it would be a good move. Especially if they can do it for the price of a 4th round pick. a 3rd may be a little steep, but I figure it's this or pay someone like Owens or Moss big bucks to play.

So, what happens if he isn't traded? I'm sure he'll be thrilled to play for Denver now.

this is just the media spouting crap.

who knows if Denver is even shopping him at all. They can spin the situation to suit their purposes. The only way it is an actual problem is if Denver announces they are trading him and the deal falls through

He is a FA at the end of the season. Why give up a 3rd round pick for a guy you can sign during the offseason for nothing? You are sitting at 0-4 already, so it is not like you can "go for it". I might consider a 5th or 6th rounder if I was them.

Houston seems like a team that should look at him seriously.

It could be but the the reporter has added to his story today:

Mike Klis of the Denver Post broke the story, and he’s updated his news to add what the Broncos are looking for in a deal. They want a third-to-fifth round draft pick.

Cam Newton with Steve Smith AND Brandon Lloyd would be a very fun offense to watch.

yes it would...and could open up room for Olsen...more room for the RBs (including Cam) to run. Still, if I trade of Lloyd were to occur, seems it would be after this weeks games, sunday's at least...not before.

Back where it all started? They traded him away in 2006 for a 3rd (2006) and a 4th (2007).

carolina & tennesee are a couple of the teams that have came calling.Lloyd started 47 career games in six seasons with Chicago (2008), Washington (2006-07) and San Francisco (2003-05) before coming to Denver.

he is familiar with the system and sf is hurting in there wr corp. just my thoughts ..they have no depth with morgans broken ankle

braylon edwads out with knee injury ..,crabtree his footsie is always huring him.

Sf has a new coach and a new scheme....just my guess

I wonder if this is true even. How dumb. Promote a young QB to start and trade away the best receiver on the team. Denver makes me :puke: as a football fan.

I cannot guarantee this is the case, but there are some players that only seem to be able to perform under one coach.

perhaps Lloyd is one of those guys.

McDaniels was able to make him a star, but the new coach maybe is unable to get the same performance out of him.

It is entirely possible that the only team this guy has any value for is the rams.

of course, all of this is speculation, but it does happen sometimes.

Its the last year on his contract. They obviously don't plan on resigning him, so they are trying to get something for nothing basically.

Exactly. The move to Tebow is an admittance of rebuilding and the best way to rebuild is to stock pile draft picks and go with youth.

You just nailed it my friend. The Broncos are trying to get some value out of Lloyd, who beside only maybe DJ Williams, is their only tradeable player. Also, the Broncos are actually pretty deep w/ WR talent. Eric Decker will benefit the most, but Demarious Thomas is coming back this week, along w/ Royal on the mend. This is a smart move by Broncos FO.

I thought the same thing about Aaron Curry. At least Lloyd has been to a Pro Bowl.

Curry was traded for a 7th and a conditional 5th rounder in 2013. Also, Curry is signed through 2012 and it is believed that he restructured his deal as part of the trade. More importantly, it was the Raiders who did the trading.

Agreed on the Raiders part. But I don't think it would be crazy for St. Louis to offer up a 5th round pick for a guy who has had great success in their offense, playing a position they are in dire need of help at.

Lloyd could be a huge boon for Bradford and you are never quite out of the race in the NFC West.

Which is basically what I said. I was responding to the statement that STL should give up a 3rd for him. I said that I might give up a 5th or a 6th for a 10 week rental. No way that I give up a 3rd.

They have an historically slow group of WR and it's killing Bradford. It's a situation that could really impact the future of the kid if they don't get him some help asap.

Lloyd was also openly again st Tebow in the off season, lobbying for Orton loud and long. It's locker room addition by subtraction.

Gotcha and I agree a 3rd would be stupid.

Clayton should be back for the rams soon.

I just took a flier on him and picked him up this week. He should be back next week.

Brandon Lloyd - WR - Broncos NFL Network's Mike Lombardi strongly believes that Brandon Lloyd will be traded prior to Tuesday's deadline.

"What I find humorous, is that they said they'll take a 3, 4, or 5 (round draft pick)," said Lombardi on Around the League Friday. "Well if I was a general manager, why would I offer anything but a sixth-round pick for the guy." Lombardi named Tennessee, Carolina, and St. Louis as possible destinations. "I think there's a 90 percent chance he's not a Bronco (next week). They should have traded him before the season started." Related: Panthers, Titans, Rams

Source: NFL.com Oct 14 - 7:08 PM

If he goes to the Rams that might give Bradfords value a little bump up??

Well he can't play until Week 8. But he is a nice speculative pickup if you have the roster space, especially in PPR leagues. He was Bradford's favorite target through 4 weeks last year, and as mentioned above, the Rams WR's aren't very good.

Why would you trade your best receiver? Why wouldn't you re-sign him after the season? Denver should be trying to add talent, not subtract it. Dumb.

He doesn't fit their Tebow-rific system, and they have a lot of young wr's getting healthy. They are probably assuming he's gonna get more on open market than they are gonna be willing to pay him.

I think Bradford's as much of the problem, if not more, that the Rams receivers.
