The Chopped Challenge

Recommended Posts

So Papa Smurf started watching the Food Network with me a while ago which is basically the only channel I watch. And he likes the show "Chopped". He decided that he would give me a Chopped Challenge and we just did it today. He went to the store and bought stuff and put it in "baskets" for me then I had to create a meal out of them. I have no idea why I am starting this thread except that he wanted me to. He thought it might entice a few of you to give your wives/SOs the challenge.

He rated my courses on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the lobster stuffed beef tenderloin I made him a few months ago.

OK. So here's the challenge if anyone cares:

FIRST COURSE:

Almond Ginger Biscuits

Canned Dark Sweet Cherries

Smoked Mozarella

Raw Chicken Tenders

WHAT I MADE: Mozarella & Cherry Stuffed Chicken Roll-ups crusted with Almond & Ginger, over a Mixed Green Salad with Cherry Vinagrette.

Papa Smurf Rating: 7

First Course

SECOND COURSE:

Ground Pork Sausage

Fresh Parsnips

Honey Nut Cheerios

Canned Sweet Potatoes

WHAT I MADE: Sweet & Spicy Sausage Burgers with Parsnip Chips and a Sweet Potato Puree

Papa Smurf Rating: 8.5

Second Course

THIRD COURSE:

Mush

Caramels

Pomegranate

Thin Ginger Cookies

WHAT I MADE: Maple Crusted Mush with Pecan Cream and Caramel and Chocolate Pomegranate Ginger Cookies

Papa Smurf Rating: 8

Third Course

Again... I have no idea why I am starting this thread... but it could be something fun to do with your wives/SOs. We made a whole day out of it and it was fun. :D

I do.

;)

The same reason you started a thread about dating an ex-NFL star's sister?

Nope. Maybe someday you will understand why I start these threads. Some people already get it.

But you already said YOU don't know twice in your first post. How do "some people" know if you don't?

:dunno:

I said my boyfriend asked me to do it. So I did. You wouldn't understand why that is funny. "Some people" do.

At least you cooked him some decent potatoes for once.

And yet, when he asked you to take it up the dumper, you refuse? :dunno:

Chopped is a great show.

I could never do it though. I like grilling and cooking a lot, but I'm the type of person that figures out a recipe and sticks to it. I can't just make up stuff on the fly like that. I'd have a complete brain fart.

Nikki - That is an awesome idea you two came up with. I really like the creativity.

Question, was there a time factor?

I don't see a use of cheerios in your main course. Didn't see them mentioned in your description and don't see them in the pic

Was there a time limit?

Looks like you did a good job but not all that creative. Ofcourse I'm comparing yours to what they come up with on chopped. I could never think of something creative

Is it that bad?

Unless this was an elaborate code for we played Hide the Salami all day, then yes, I'm worried.

You should be riding a sausage, not trying to figure out what to cook with one. HTH

Ratings are lacking.

You should have been judges on creativity, presentation, and taste. Your presentation alone brings those score down.

There was nothing blue in my baskets.

Except his bawls watching you cook "all" day even though you call him Papa Smurf.

No. We didn't time it. I told him I wanted it to be fun and I didn't want to be all stressed out running around. I took about an hour to cook each course.

I used the cheerios as bread crumbs to hold together the sausage burger. I also put honey in it, and then a lot of pepper so it was spicy and sweet.

Listen buster.... you figure out to do with a lump of ground sausage and a canned of disgusting sweet potatoes (BTW... who the FOCK buys and eats CANNED sweet potatoes???? Those things were focking disgusting) and get back to me about creativity. <_<

Bite me. :P

Also... his rating system was based on whether he would ever want me to make it again with a 7 being "Yes we should have this again."

Use of ginger cookies and ginger biscuits is redundant.

The latino judges deduct points if no hot sauce is utilized.

that was the most creative dish actually.

i was more reffering to dish 1 where you stuffed 2 ingredients inside a 3rd, crusted it with a 4th and put it over a salad

or the dessert which sounded like 1 ingredient topped with another and the 3rd topped with the 4th

actually the maple crusted mush part was creative... the cookies not so much

You're right. It wasn't very creative but I was also trying to make something edible that we would both want to eat.

Dessert was the hardest. I'm not a dessert person and trying to make stuff up on the fly wasn't easy.

I love Chopped

While I applaud your effort, and I'm sure it was fairly tasty, pics 1 and 2 very closely resemble something my kat would puke up. (Trust me, I'm an expert on this)

I see several ways in which you could have improved those concoctions, but I'm not the type to armchair qb
