Cruzer 1,995 Posted September 3, 2015 As crazy as it seems, if Day wins the tour championship and the FedEx cup I think he warrants serious consideration. I guess I value Majors more heavily than some... To me - you win 2, finish a shot out of a playoff in the 3rd and 2nd in the 4th - that's it, end of discussion - nothing tops it unless you happened to have won the other 2... Couple this with the fact Day finished 28th in the Masters and 9th in our Open - not a contest... It's prolly not fair that I don't view the Tour Championship or FedEx Cup more than I do. But to me, they are just money grabs - nothing of substance other than straight cash. In fact - I don't think there is a player in the game that would rather have one over a major. I don't disagree but I also maybe dont value finishing 2nd the same way you do (keep in mind I think Spieth is the best in the world). But to me I look for wins and the importance of those wins. Not almost wins. So 2 majors probably outweighs 1 major and the tour championship/FedEx cup but day would then have how many total wins this year.. 3? 4? Spieth has 4? It would make for a solid debate at the very least
cbfalcon 825 Posted September 3, 2015 I value majors over everything else an weight them very heavily, but they aren't the be all end all. Exaggerated example: If Spieth wins 2 Majors and no other tournaments......and Day wins 1 major and 14 total tournaments....I'll vote for Day. But Day's best case scenario is 7 wins with 1 Major. That's not enough to beat Spieth's 4 wins with 2 Majors in my book. That said, I don't value the FedEx Cup all that much as of yet. I support the concept because it gets the top players playing towards the end of the year, but It doesn't feel like a big deal to me as of yet..............I am however 100% on board with the idea being floated that we play the first 3 events to narrow it down to 30...then play the Tour Championship for 2 days to cut the field down to 8, then we have matchplay for the Final 8......I think something like that would give it a feel that would elevate it to a status comparable to a Major maybe. There might be some wiggle room there - had not Spieth just played lights out for most of the rest of the year as well. 4 wins (2 majors) and the most Top 10's of anyone... What's interesting about this is that Day finished 2nd in Top 10's. But when you look at it Day did it at a 53% clip - meaning he finished in the top 10 of his tournaments 53% of the time............Spieth did it at a clip of 64%, with more overall. It's Spieth this year without a doubt. The conistsency, then finishing 1 stroke out of a playoff at the Open and finishing 2nd at the PGA.... It all matters. I just can't see any scenario in which we look back on the season and think of Jason Day before we think of Jordan Spieth.... Unless Day murders someone on the course or something. WhiteWonder 2,735 Posted September 3, 2015 I actually think the FedEx has become something big where as its first few years it was nothing. I think top players view it in higher regard than they used to. You don't see as many big names skipping the early events

Cruzer 1,995 Posted September 4, 2015 Trying to get as many rounds in as possible now, supposed to be in the mid to high 80s all weekend, super warm for this time of year. This is the 1st time I will have gotten to play.... Well since last weekend where I got in 45 Saturday and 27 Sunday.
cbfalcon 825 Posted September 6, 2015 Swing changes: I'm seeing excellent enough results to know with 100% certainty I'm on the right path. But at the same time, said changes aren't muscle memory yet, so I can lose my feel for stretches and completely blow up. This weekend has been the perfect example of this. ----- I played Cross Timbers on Friday. My good shots were great. And whereas last week at the range it was an issue, I've now got perfect distance control with my 56 degree vokey. The good result was birdies on 1, 8, 12, 17, and 18, all of which I had excellent drives and vokey in (18 is a par 5, so it was drive, hybrid, vokey in). In truth, I probably average 1 birdie a round. I've had 3 birdies in a round multiple times (including once at Rockwood when I finished Birdie, Birdie, Birdie to shoot a 79). But 5 birdies is the most I've ever had....... BUT....I also struggled for a stretch getting stuck with the driver, which resulted in some ugly duck hooks. And I really had a rough time of it on the greens in spite of the 5 birdies. So there were two triples and a couple of doubles as well, etc. The result was an 83 with 5 birdies. Weird round. But encouraging long term. ----- Yesterday I played Willow Springs. After the lightning greens of CT, I felt out of sorts at Willow. On the front I was fighting the same driver issues as I was getting it stuck. I also found water once, knocked it in a bush once, and three putted twice from inside of 15 feet. It was ugly sloppy golf. I shot a 45 on the front. But on #9, i made a good practice swing with the driver and something kind of clicked. So I decided to hit a mental reset and see what I could do on the back 9. I ended with 8 pars and a bogey for a +1 score of 37. I didn't really do anything spectacular. My drives weren't great, but they were down the middle. My irons were decent. Had to get up and down 5 times from just off the green. But it was steady. ----- So that's where I'm at. The swing changes have given me a new top end in ability. But I need to make them muscle memory so I can avoid the blow ups and start focusing on shot making.....and I need to get my putter going again.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted September 8, 2015 Yesterday I played Willow Springs. After the lightning greens of CT, I felt out of sorts at Willow. Most laugh when they hear WS - but for being a chip and putt goat track, it's rather hard to score on... I basically grew up there, where I learned to play. Have known the Lindsey family forever. Have known the Lindsey family forever. Back when I started golfing in the 90's, we nicknamed it "Mud"......"Let's go play Mud tomorrow", etc. I consider it a low stress course, but I have never shot in the 70's on it. It's almost as if it lulls me into thinking about birdies and not taking things one shot at a time.......and surprisingly, it's a course in which your entire approach on the greens can be altered if you leave yourself above the whole. They aren't all that fast, but some of them have pretty wicked slopes. Saturday, I declared I enjoyed it more than any of the Fort Worth muni's. It's an enjoyable track. As for the Lindsey's......My mom was the home health nurse of the oldest one that ran everything back in the 90's. At one point she had a stack of about 150 free round passes. Unfortunately that was right before I got into golf..................And Miss Lindsey (that's all I knew her as) taught me at Saginaw Elementary and again at Boswell High School. Cruzer 1,995 Posted September 8, 2015 Back when I started golfing in the 90's, we nicknamed it "Mud"......"Let's go play Mud tomorrow", etc. Dacus and his wife have all but ruined that place... Back in the day it was a great place - booming in fact. Sonny (the dad, son of the founder) was the best - he knew business and he knew people. The Friday scramble was so big that people were always turned away bcoz it was full. The MGA used to be huge, the LGA was big and the Couples league on Mondays was huge. We used to have 6 groups in the Skins game every Saturday a.m. - brought tons of $$ to the place.. Dacus focked it all away - he's an idiot.
KSB2424 3,148 Posted September 9, 2015 My neighbor / golfing buddy owns his own financial planning / estate planning company and one of his clients is a member who is getting us on and playing with us. I think it's still going to cost me like 90 bucks as a visitor (with a member) but it will be well worth it. My Sedgefield trip fell through. We are still going, but its going to be in early October instead of the weekend after that PGA golf tournament. Sedgefield is part of the McConnell Golf group which is several nice courses. My "guy" is a member at Raleigh Country Club which is part of McConnell but Sedgefield is not his 'home' course. Apparently so many home course members wanted to play that weekend we were booted off. He still getting us on, but we had to pick a different weekend. So we are picking a weekend in October to play Sedgfield on Saturday then drive to Charlotte which is only like a hour and a half away and go to a Panthers football game on Sunday. I'm stoked to play there, but it sucks it wont be in "PGA tournament" playing conditions. I really wanted to see and play the course in that condition. Oh well. DankNuggs 305 Posted September 9, 2015 Was mashing on Mon... 41/40, putted atrociously... Had a 5' fairly flat but downhill eagle putt i blew... Birdies on front and back... Only one blowup hole (dbl bogey) I really should have been in the 70's. Best round in a couple years at this place. Only broke 80 one time and that was when i shot a 72. Cruzer 1,995 Posted September 21, 2015 You boys prolly weren't interested in all in the Solheim Cup for the ladies... It was some freaking great drama - just like the days of Seve, Monty and Wadkins... But there was also some fantastic golf.... Cruzer 1,995 Posted January 11, 2016 He sure did. What are the chances of playing golf in the metroplex in late January? Pretty damn good... Outside of an occasional weekend here and there, it's year around for us... On average it's about middle to upper 50's as the highs during that time of year... As is usual - it all depends on the wind.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted January 21, 2016 Can't stand the wrap around season crap - 2016 is the start of the season to me still... So any of you golf nerds watch coverage of the Abu Dhabi y-day? 1st of all that course is incredible... 2ndly - what a great round of golf watching in the Rory/Jordan/Rickie pairing. As great as Jordan is, he's rather vanilla. Very Tom Kite like - just goes about his biz, nothing flashy, gets the ball in the hole... But Rory - wow, he may be one of the top 5 greatest ball strikers of all time. Certainly one of the top 3 drivers of the ball ever.. Like Dan Jenkins used to say about Hogan, his ball just sounds different when it comes off the club.
