The Manica Patrick progress thread.

Recommended Posts

DO a little research on this one. Seles had taken over #1 from Graf, was 4 years younger, won 7 of the previous 9 GS including 2 out of 3 from Graf, and had just turned 19. She then gets stabbed to save Graf, and it obviously worked. Graf was toast. No way she wins those 11 GS titles she won after the stabbing.

Seles had a great 2 year run no doubt but to put her in the conversation of greatest ever is like saying Billy Simms was one of the greatest RB'S EVER TO PLAY IN THE NFL. She got stabbed and then came back like 2 years later and won 1 tournament. She had a great 2 year run doesn't mean she was the best at anything -- many tennis plays have had hot starts and then faded.

So avoiding accidents is no longer a skill in motor racing? Believe me, teh first time Danica leaves a race early because of an accident and finishes 41st, Sux will be hear pounding his chest as if it proves his point. This entire thread is trolling.

I have NEVER ONCE said that Danica was one of the elite drivers on the circuit. I simply said that Nascar is the only major "sport" (and I use that term loosely)where a woman could even participate at it's highest level. The fact that she finished 8th in the sport's biggest race proves how much athleticism it take to do it. Does it take skill? Absolutely. But you sure as fock don't need to be an athlete to compete in it.

So a woman couldn't be a field goal kicker in the NFL?

A woman couldn't participate in a PGA event?

That is all that Danika is doing right now. Participating.

Sure, a team could sign a female as their kicker as a gimmick. But she would be far and away the worst kicker in the league. That's my point, Danica isn't far and away the worst driver in Nascar. She finished in 8th place in the sports biggest event!!! Ahead of about 35 others. ONLY PARTICIPATING? lol Then wtf were the 35 guys she beat doing?

And, although a female would most-likely finish in last place of any PGA event she'd enter using the same tee boxes, using golfers in an argumanet about 'athletes' almost hurts your case.

She finished 8th place in 1 event that is tailor made for her driving experience. It is a long season and by the end we will prolly see that she is not competing, merely participating. Same as the bottom half of the male drivers.

ath·lete noun \ˈath-ˌlēt, ÷ˈa-thə-ˌlēt\

Definition of ATHLETE

: a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina

How is a top level NASCAR driver not an athlete? Please explain. (Danica included)

I would actually put her pretty close to the bottom if not right at the bottom of those who run the full schedule.

Not even close to being a correct comparison. Seles dominated tennis and dominated Graf at a far younger age. She did not get burnt out or injured, she was attacked. Graf goes on to win 11 majors, she would not have had a whiff of 11 if Seles is around.

You seem to be discounting that Graf was injured/foot/wrist issues between 1990-92(or that one of those Slams Seles won, Graf was out with measles).

The only player you could argue is better than Graf is Serena -- and that argument would be based solely on potential as if she had a unbreakable mentality like Graf she probably would of been the best ever as Serena probably has more power and faster than any woman I have ever seen play.

Hell Aggassi played better towards the end of his career when he was with Graf maybe that rubbed off.

Qualified 40th. I really expected her to be in the top 15. Not a good start.

What a focking race. Anyone who doesn't like NASCAR should watch the replay of this race.

Rowdy Busch!!!!

Heck of a race... loved Stewart's post race interview. I don't think you are allowed to say that on tv.

Danica qualified 32nd but will start at the rear of the field after changing engines. Given the track, if she does like she normally does and just cruises around the track instead of actually trying to be competitive she should be able to make the top 30 just due to attrition.

I'll go worse than 30th. She'll crash it.

15 laps in... wrecks, driving like a dumb chick.

Of course... who wrecks 20 laps later... Juan Pablo Montoya!

So, as I said, she didn't actually try to be competitive but just through attrition she ended up 12th. I mean, pretty much all of the full time drivers from the major teams spent at least some time looking like they had a chance for a top 5-10 finish. She only ended up where she did in the last 20 laps or so as some of those guys tried to make one last push. On paper, 12th seems like a decent finish but she really didn't even do anywhere near that well.

Agreed. Given the track, it will prolly go down as her best race of the year.

Another great showing for Manica, coming in 28th. She did beat Dale Jr and her boyfriend though. Not a bad day.

Kyle Busch with the weekend sweep.

Supposedly :dunno:

Doesn't look like she did much competing in this race either.

Completely disagree - she did well, most thought she would finish 5 laps down at Martinsville.

Strike knows that. So do the other Danica haters. But her 12th place finish didn't fit their agenda, so they had to make it seem like it was an 'unimpressive 12th'. That race was quickly glossed over in this thread. They save their words for the ones where she doesn't do well.

I don't think that any of us hate her :dunno:

She's just not competitive on this level. Or her last level for that matter.

I THINK SHE'S A LOT MORE COMPETITIVE THAN YOU THOUGHT SHE'D BE. :music_guitarred:

Not really. She was competitive in Daytona, no where else.

What I will give her credit for is doing a good job staying out of wrecks. Not as easy as it sounds.

Then again, the season is still young. If she can finish in the top 15 for the year, I will have been wrong.

I'll put it another way, can you think of any other sports where a female could participate against the top males the sport has to offer, and not finish in last place every time? And even finish in the top half on several occasions?

12th at Martinsville is damn competive. Check out the first races of Jr., Stewart, Busch, JJ they all finished laps off the pace. She did incredible there and deserves the credit for doing so.

I did give her credit. I said it will prolly go down as her best race of the year. Still, she wasn't ever a threat.

Nope. She wasn't competitive. She was multiple laps down and only due to the shortness of the track and the wave around rule did she even get back on the lead lap. Then, because other drivers were actually trying to WIN the race and pitted late she was able to sneak up in to the top fifteen. I mean, seriously, you all want to say how great TWELFTH is. That's sad. And again, it was due to gimmicks.

And I'm not a Danica Patrick hater. Trust me, I was hearing about her at the track years before any of you knew about her. I rooted for her, and still do. But I think it's unfortunate that deserving drivers don't get the opportunity that she's taking from them simply because she attracts sponsors. But we'll see how long that lasts if she's never up front and sitting 28th in the standings in a year or two.

Not only her, but a few of them that currently practice the start and park crap.
