The Manica Patrick progress thread.

Recommended Posts

I stopped watching nascar now that Gordon retired :(

I watched the Daytona, but that's it so far. Just don't have the time with an almost 3 year old. Barely even watching golf right now

I followed JG too, trying to root for Chase now, continuing my dislike of Carl Edwards and my out right hate of Michael Waltrip. You should try my method of Nascar watching, tune in for start, mow lawn, other chores, watch last 50 laps.

Sometimes, I add in a nap too.

Oh, I never watch live. I always DVR. I watched "lets go racing boys, boogety boogety boogety" maybe 10 laps, then I watch on FF for any major wrecks, I stop around the middle of the race to get an update and then I FF to about 10 laps to go. Takes maybe an hour to watch a whole race.

Aside from discussing an extremely over-rated driver who has reached her ceiling, what did you think of Edwards move on Sunday?

My 2 cents, at Richmond acceptable, but....that was an overly agressive bump and run, had it been a lesser driver than Busch, he loses control of that car. Also, based on his previous reactions him saying that he would have been okay with it if the positions were reveresed, I found a little hard to believe.

I was fine with it for a few reasons:

1) As you noted, it was a short track and often that's the only way to pass at a short track.

2) Busch didn't seem bothered by it. Seems like he understood. Also, something happened that allowed Edwards to get up to Busch on that last lap. He came up on him quick. Can't blame him in that scenario. He was much faster than Busch at that exact moment.

3) Busch is a doosh. And after what he did to Ron Hornaday, which cost Hornaday a chance at another truck series championship:

www.cbsnews.com/news/nascar-fines-kyle-busch-50k-for-hornaday-wreck/

I won't ever care if someone wrecks him. In this case he just got a love tap.

Good point about Hornaday, in all the Busch love last year, I'd started to overlook his dooshiness.

To come come clean, I'd probably wouldn't have thought twice about it, except I've not liked Carl since he blamed Brad K for the Talledega incident, where from my view, he hadn't cleared Brad and no reason for Brad to let up with finish line in sight. His wreck of Brad at Atlanta(next week) then sealed the deal on my Cousin Carl opinion.

I'm guessing there might be some nap time involved too, just not for you.

Especially for tracks like Daytona, Dega, or worst of all Pocono...

I watch the whole race is it's a road course or a short track like Bristol/Richmond/Martinsville.

Happy Birthday, Manica!

I heard she left her birthday party at the same time as everybody else, but got home last. HoHoHoHoHoHoHoHo!

I have figured out how Danica could have more top tens. GO BACK TO INDY CAR. Only 8 people finish their races.

She was horrible when they had all of the drivers doing the color commentary during the xfinity race too. She has the charisma of a brick.

Danica Patrick - 168 career NASCAR races over six years...... 7 top ten finishes, 0 top five, 0 wins.

Couldn't they pick any dude off the street and end up with more than 7 top ten finishes? :dunno:

She's just not that talented.

Give almost any other driver in the series her team and they would prolly do quite a bit better.

Yup. I was a supporter early in her career as I had heard about her on the lower levels from guys I used to go to the track with. But between Indy and NASCAR she has a total of one win, and that win was a gimmick win, not one based on speed. She takes up a spot that could go to a much more talented driver that would make the field more competitive. But instead of that we get to watch her run laps week after week, sitting in the mid 20's most weeks, and acting like she belongs there. I think this is her last season in NASCAR. Sponsors are finally figuring out she's not worth it, and that's what kills your career in that sport.

The interesting thing about Manica is she has exhibited zero growth in 5 seasons. Zero. After 160 races there is no greater chance of her winning than there was in race 1. There is no track that she does better on than any other, her qualifying is virtually identical to her first season as are her results. Being a veteran provides nothing, which goes against everything we thought we knew about sports.

Athletes have a ceiling. Hers is simply much lower than those she competes against. She probably wouldn't have made it to this level of racing but for her being a semi attractive woman.

Yah. I think I read a blurb about Stewart-Haus negotiating her exit at the end of this year (even though she's in contract through the 2018 season).

You guys need to be nicer.

NASCAR driver Danica Patrick confronted fans who booed when security denied their autograph requests at Friday's Pocono 400 qualifier.

Upon hearing the jeers, she turned back and addressed the crowd with an earnest appeal to humanity:

"Since I'm old, instead of taking the booing, I want to tell you, I'm doing the very best I can. I mean, If you're a real fan, you know that I'm not just like…my job is not to sign autographs, right? My job is to drive a car and to tell the crew chief what's going on. I don't appreciate the booing. It hurts my feelings. I'm a [expletive] person; you know what I mean? I'm a person, too. I have feelings. When you boo me, it hurts my feelings. Please just be supportive fans. I'll do everything I can. When I came from over here, my car was over there. I can only do so much. I have to get in the car. So please understand that."

It would make sense that this is a sport that women can compete at as well as men. Sadly, Danica is making it harder for the next talented young lady, not easier.

Actually not true. (plus the fact thats she's not)

Motorsports that wimmen can compete in as well as men would be NHRA and mebbe IndyCar.

It's true that she's not but can't that be because she's the wrong woman to do it? Maybe I'm wrong but I'd assume the advantages men have in other sports are neutralized in a race car. Bigger and stronger don't count, this is all instincts and reflexes, no?

No, it's not. That being said, I don't know if I agree with Sux that women can't compete in NASCAR. So, IMO, you're both wrong

As far as Danica in this race, don't know if she'll crash but she'll get eaten up by the good road course racers in NASCAR. Racing is different than qualifying.

Far too demanding physically over the course of a season for any woman that we've seen so far to compete.

Therefore, you're wrong

She can't even compete in one race. Let's meet that milestone before we start talking season long success.
