The Moz 69 Posted June 14, 2013 A friend of mine has one and after riding in it and driving it for a weekend I think I might get one as well. The S model which he has ( just got it a few months ago) has a nice ride and get acceleration. Lots of storage as it's basically no engine just a small motor. 100% electric so no gas ever but does cost a little bit to plug it in every night but no where near what it costs for gas. Reminds me of Jaguar actually when you look at it. Only draw back is it only carries enough charge to go about 250 miles before it needs a re charge. There are places to charge your car up but there aren't common place yet and take about an hour to get a full charge for like 5 bucks. I really don't plan to go on a lot of road trips though and I doubt I really need more than 250 total miles more than maybe 1-2 times a year. Price is about 55 K for base and with what I want on it about 60K . I figure this has to be the future of cars in so far as going all electric and I have to think they eventually figure a way to get a full charge a lot quicker than 45 minutes. https://www.google.com/search?gs_rn=17&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=Eh_yGLw35esoH-Pz6wKn2g&suggest=p&pq=tesla+models&cp=14&gs_id=1nb&xhr=t&q=tesla+models+price&client=firefox-a&hs=0zX&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=np&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47883778,d.aWM&biw=928&bih=406&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=zD-7UfGtDIrirQGB-ICQCg#facrc=_&imgrc=i6FT7O6mdD9D1M%3A%3BvNvP6tiEB_StQM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252F1.bp.blogspot.com%252F-nvm71pGzNwU%252FUNOnmlophkI%252FAAAAAAAAG54%252FzESTWVb1_vU%252Fs1600%252FTesla-Model-S-rear-quarter.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.electric-vehiclenews.com%252F2012%252F12%252Ftesla-announce-model-s-european-pricing.html%3B660%3B370

DankNuggs 305 Posted June 14, 2013 i play hockey with a guy who has one... The nav screen is insane on it. Very cool car. He has an ideal setup where his office garage has a power outlet he plugs into each day. He claims he could go a week without charging, but i think he has a pretty short commute. If you have access to another car for the potential out of town trips (like say a miata) you'd be better off. go for it, got great reviews.

DankNuggs 305 Posted June 14, 2013 I have read where it's like one of the best reviewed cars in history. It is also fast as hell - there is no transmission so the thing just accelerates instantly its eery taking off with minimal sound. Being outside the car its strange too. It did get great reviews, but remember that it doens't include reliability or potential gremlins. (i'd actually be very wary of this from a small company with a brand new product) In boston there is only one service center in watertown. or you can pay extra and have service technicians come to your place. I'd think it through, as for 60k you could be in a 535, loaded E class, loaded A6...etc... Car has to fit your lifestyle because it has its limitations. Cdub100 3,850 Posted June 14, 2013 I'm still not convinced it's worth it to buy one. Meaning the money you save on gas will not out weigh total cost. I agree this is where we are heading and unlike some on this board I'm fine with it. I'm just not sure we are totally there yet. Also if I were to buy one I'd just a rent a gas car for long road trips. That's the cheaper than keeping another gas car around.

The inside is the same as Benz, BMW , or Audi - it has a really nice interior .......... Once they figure a way to either get a charger quicker or have a charge last like 16 hours a clip Gas cars are on their way out as they would no longer be needed. NorthernVike 2,083 Posted June 14, 2013 I've got a few questions on this sucker.. 1. Can it or will they ever be able to make one that can tow anything of substantial weight? 2. How does the charge hold up in -20 temps? 3. How many phags are going to hit on you when they see you driving one? There may be more

So much so, that the big automakers are doing their part to prevent the company from selling cars in many places. There are states where it is essentially illegal for Tesla to even advertise. DankNuggs 305 Posted June 14, 2013 Actually it got the highest ranking of any car ever in Consumer reports. Chevy Volt won car of the year... So lets remember that a decent amount of this is hype... If the batteries wear down quicker than expected, or gremlins surface that are annoying the greatest car ever moniker will lose its luster fast.

The wiring harness for that year and the previous was changed due to environmental reasons and ended up failing and causing all kinds of issues. The hydrolic pump for the power top exploded in my trunk. The soft top plastic windows became brittle and cracked... suspension needed all kinds of new bearings and control arms, bushings, etc... couldn't justify at the time sinking my net worth into an old car. Sad to see it go...In its better days there wasn't much better than putting down the top and going for a long cruise somewhere... I'd like to have a project car thats a targa or convertible. Top of my list is a 2000-2002 NSX. Maybe a vette if i b1tch out on wanting to do a proper engine build.

Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche's are notorious for electrical issues. My first car was a Volkswagen, and then I had an Audi in my 20's- both had electrical gremlins. My last 5 cars have all been BMW's. Never had an issue except once, when the back window failed to go down on my X5. Had it fixed and it never gave me any trouble after that.

MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted June 15, 2013 Anyone who spends 60000 on a car is a dumbtard. I agree with you. I could easily afford a nice car, but I would rather drive a 6,000 dollar beater and use that money to either retire early or take nice vacations. If I shop around I can buy a early 2000's Nissan Sentra with 100k miles that was driven by someone above the age of 30. Those things need hardly any maintenance to hit the 200,000 mile mark. If I do that twice, I am already 100,000 dollars ahead of someone who buys a 50,000 dollar luxury vehicle. Plus the fact that someone who buys a 50,000 dollar vehicle probably needs a loan and is paying interest while I am taking that same money and investing puts me even further ahead. If the batteries wear down quicker than expected, or gremlins surface that are annoying the greatest car ever moniker will lose its luster fast. Wrong. Remember the huge difference: Volt = CHEVROLET, a company that could fock up a one-man parade, versus a company that has been specializing in just what it does for a long time. Tesla didn't just fall out of the sky yesterday and their cars get EXTREMELY favorable feedback from those without an agenda. They're not dicking around with hybridized bullsh!t, either to cow-tow to the oil and gas industry. It's full-on electric.
