One of the biggest reasons I am no longer a Republican. The Clinton impeachment had me questioning if I belonged, this slammed the door completely on the national party. I do still vote mostly Republican on state level- especially 2014. For Michigan Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State this past election, I votes straight GOP and none was a close decision, all were easy. I also voted for all the GOP-endorsed state Supreme Court justices.

 

But not US Senate. I voted for the Dem Gary Peters and early indications are he's great on balanced budget issues and cooerating with GOP collegues. The GOP had ran a real focking embarassing twit that hid from the media for US Senate so it was an easy choice.

As a result of that (and BTW, I know this by memory), SEVEN MILLION self-identified Republicans decided not to vote - at all. They hated Obummer, but hated McSame and Palin just as much. You can look up the numbers. And, while we're doing history, McSame was virtually tied with Obummer at the primaries- until two weeks after Palin was revealed. HUGE initial bump - until she spoke. And even the most ardent Republicans (Kristorl, Richardson, etc.) couldn't stomach her. Again, you short memmoried dumb focks.

Now I'd had an intensely burning hated his foreign policy and that was a huge issue for me in 2008 but otherwise he was cool. Gradually, he started drifting away and distancing himself from his previous positions and it was making me nervous. From leaning McCain in the Spring I was leaning Obummer in the Summer. When Palin came along, I'd felt he'd fully allowed himself to sell out and I locked in to Obummer at that point.
