Obama announces restrictions on distribution of military-style equipment to police

Recommended Posts

The military and the police are not even close to being the same thing. Except uniform, gun and rank structure. After that they are worlds apart.

I think the fact that the scope of work for a police officer is so vast, they have to be experts in everything. In the military, you can focus on your specialty. In the end, everyone has the ability to be a rifleman, but most just stay in their lane.

I'm thinking about the mission in general. In the military non combatant deaths are understandable most of the time. In a police action, non com deaths are unacceptable and punished.

Good point, also most police actions are reactionary, military stuff is planned and rehearsed a thousand times.

WASHINGTON President Obama is banning local police departments from receiving a range of military-style equipment from the federal government -- from grenade launchers to bayonets to certain armored vehicles -- as he implements the recommendations of a panel that examined the controversial gear giveaways in the wake of the Ferguson riots.

Another step toward federalize do police.

Never let a good crisis go to waste

Weren't you and your ilk some of those complaining that police forces were too militarized?

You are all over the focking place just to find a way to complain about Obama again.

Phurfur doesn't remember where he put his dentures. You really think he remembers what his stance was on the police?

Are you familiar with the term "non sequitur?" Because your post above was a doozy.

I am, just following along by mocking your own presentation of it.... ;)

Apparently it means helmets, shields, and batons.

The bolded is retarded. Just more BS paperwork and red tape from the administration.

Right. If Billy Bob wants a track vehicle for him and his 3 man department he shouldn't have to fill out forms and stuff. He should just show his badge and drive off with one from the depot.

He doesn't know if it's good or bad or if he's being inconsistent. He just knows Obummer did it.

IMO preventing local police from having military grade equipment makes it less likely the feds will be able to use the local police to take over the country, but what do I know, I'm not a semi-retarded conspiracy freak.

Also, I've no problem with giving the police access to any Army surplus stuff they want. I know the Ferguson police got beat up by the media/whiners about having military grade gear (as did the morons who looked like fools when they took Elian Gonzalez from his extended family 20 years ago) but overall, I've no problem with it at all. That said, I can't say I know what purpose grenades would serve a local police force, I just don't want to open the box such that it gets carried away and includes helmets and flack jackets radios and other equipment.

I read it all too.

I picked out the helmets and shield part because that's what I consider to be idiotic. Am I typing too fast for you?

Does it say they can't have them? Besides, if Billy Bob wants them, let the residents in Billy Bobs town pay for them. I don't see why my tax dollars should pay for it.

Your tax dollars have already paid for them so you're not saving anything.

I'd rather Billy Bob get them for free and thereby save his own local taxpayers a few bucks than have them sit unused and forgotten about, taking up space as clutter in a warehouse forever.

I don't. Tired of footing the bill for non productive states.

How do you know the name of the sheriff in RP's town?

Huh, I thought sure Phurboy would have stopped back in by now and clarified how wanting better armed police forces across the nation is in line with libertarian views. :dunno:

Giving the cops shields and helmets might upset the shoppers when they are hurling liquor bottles at the cops during one of their shopping sprees.

We can't have that.

How is not giving away the federal government's property a move to "federalize the police?" Wouldn't forcing them to take certain equipment and dictating how it's used be more like what you're saying?

Also, I've tried but can't think of an application where police need bayonets or grenade launchers. :dunno:

I tried and can't really recall a time recently where they were used either. :dunno:

Once again, who said they can't have helmets and shields? End of thread.

That will depend who is in office. The Progressive Socialist have proven to be very patient. They have no problem chipping away at a cause for decades.

Trump is a progressive socialist is what you are saying?

“If Chicago doesn't fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!,” Trump wrote on his personal Twitter account.
