Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 Too small to "carry the load"? That,s what they said about Tiki Barber when they drafted Ron Dayne. The thunder is just kinda scary ...,It's the lightning that will kill you, when it strikes. I gotta say ... Barry Sanders might be turning over in his grave, but this kid has some serious skills. Too small? Hold up ...watch me break ankles. Then tell me I can't "carry the load". What made Barry so good,,was despite the worst OL in the league ... he could just dance out of some monster guy trying to break his leg. Nobody ever called Barry Sander's an a$$hole. Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 When did Barry Sanders die? Years ago. He almost ... Coulda broke the record, right? Then Emmit Smith broke the all time record. Then he died. Was tragic ... really.

Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 leaving the game while still healthy seems +ev to me Yeah but,,he was like the ultimate stud and he just vanished. Like I am done ... I don't GAF about football anymore. Might as well be dead.
Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 Ultimate hero ...best RB ever ... seems unhappy about it all. Ever heard the term, " Act like you've been there before." ... pretty sure Barry Sanders said that on his death bed.
Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 Emmit Smith is the all time, rushing yardage leader, in NFL history.
Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 Just so you kids know how "sick" Barry was ... Yo, check it: Fast guys like Dri Archer, coaches always say you want to get him the ball "in space" ... Yeah, no shiat, the farthest away from the much bigger guys that wanna knock his block off, the better. What Barry did so well, was MAKE .... Shanan na ... na ... MAAAKE ... space when it wasn't provided for him.
Hawkeye21 2,399 Posted August 24, 2015 Loved Barry Sanders but I don't think I can put him as the all time best. Walter Payton is the top for me but there are a few that could be considered.

Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 Barry coulda had the record, by a lot. Decided to retire early. Didn't want to be the one who knocked Sweetness down. Mad respect.
Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 The Cowboys still have the same strat ... run a capable RB behimd the best OL in the game with a suspect defense. They have not won a lot of championships tho, post Smith. Yer gonna win a lot of games in dramatic fashion that way, but only when you get lucky. High variance play. Barry Sanders, when he was still alive, did not win a lot of games. The team around him sucked, for years. Defenses stacked up against him, with no fear of the Detroit passing game ... and he still broke ankles.
Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 So anyway ..what about this Abdullah kid? Maybe ... the next Tiki Barber?

Magnificent Bastard 191 Posted August 24, 2015 Ultimate hero ...best RB ever ... seems unhappy about it all. Giants Fan 85 Posted August 24, 2015 After Joe Paterno said it first. Was it Joe Pa first? Still, I always felt like Barry Sanders, he was beyond excellent, and with grace. WP too, they played the game with humility amd honor, like a soldier. Then a different Sanders came along, in Dallas, and it became a big show-boat thing ... and it was over. Maulers1973 117 Posted August 24, 2015 Barry Sanders all day, every day. He is my best ever. I haven't seen anybody else do what he could consistently. I don't think Abdullah is that good, but I do want him on my fantasy team as an RB3. I probably won't get him though.
roroco 75 Posted August 24, 2015 Sanders, Brown, Peyton, and Bo are all world beaters and they are all different types of players. Bo playing a lot like Brown, but still. Abdullah can be special, but let's avoid making comparisons to any of these guys until we see a highlight video against professional defenders.

You know who else was considered "too small to carry the load"? About five running backs every year. More often than not, they are in fact too small to carry the load. For every Barry Sanders and Tiki Barber, there are 50 David Wilsons

Beyond Chaos 75 Posted August 24, 2015 My vote is for Barry as all time greatest RBs. He was on a terrible team and still got it done. It was rumored that's one of the reasons he retired early, he wanted to be traded to a better team, but the Lions had the franchise tag on him and would never let him go. Another reason was that he did not want to break Payton's all time rushing record while Payton was dying, out of respect. I have no idea if either of those are true. weepaws 3,191 Posted August 25, 2015 He would have showed him respect by getting the record than praising Walter for what he had done. I hope he showed he cared truly for Walter by praying for him .

When you say hsit like this you alienate people. #34 was the greatest ever. Jim Brown, Gayle Sayers, Barry Sanders, Emmit Smith, Erik Dickerson, Ladanian Tomlinson, Curtis Martin, Marshall Faulk and Jerome Bettis are my top ten. Gepetto 1,367 Posted August 25, 2015 Tony Dorsett and O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas were all better than Curtis Martin and Jerome Bettis, in my opinion.

You've definitely got my respect bringing those guys into the discussion. I'd include Earl Campbell in with the guys you mention as well. edit: Marcus Allen? Riggins? Edjerrin James? Voltaire 5,315 Posted August 25, 2015 When did Barry Sanders die? GF is pulling your leg. It was a misunderstanding. What happened was at the Hall of Fame on the day of his induction, the clouds opened up and he ascended to heaven. Cherubs and angels, the whole bit. All that remained was the plaque he held for 30 seconds. No wonder you didn't hear about it, he didn't die. He's watching over us today. He has NFL Network and NFL Redzone. R8RMick 242 Posted August 25, 2015 Earl Campbell is better than half of your top ten. Maybe more. Earl Campbell is comparable to a Texas Tornado in that he is a destructive can of whip-ass, but only for a short lifespan. I'm wondering why Franco isn't on that list. After all, he held the record before Sweetness did.

You're right, it was Brown not wanting Franco to GET the record in which I'm thinking. Something about him always running out of bounds to avoid contact.
