H-1B visas - Hey libs

Recommended Posts

I know they are. It's been confirmed. :ninja:

How was it confirmed? And if it is true, what happened to RP? Why is he so bad at trolling now?

For seasonal hospitality companies its a killer to limit the H1B program. There aren't enough workers to do the job for the full season that runs through september when the college kids are already back. It cripples the operation.

Seasonal? Don't they use the H2B? H2A for agricultural and temporary/seasonal...H2B for non ag?

You might be right and i am confusing myself. I think there is a difference between the seasonal dishwashers, and the euros they get out of hospitality schools in europe to work at higher levels of the hotel/resorts. Maybe not.

Chicago is such a large city that attracts really good chefs, so it seems pretty obvious that Chicago would have good food. It's unfortunate when some people don't end up wirh a good experience. But there also seems to be a twinge of jealousy from non Chicagoans.

I have never eaten in chicago, but it is my right as a geek club member to criticize you about something I have no experience with in a completely unrelated thread and I will be damned if I am going to lose that right.

:Edit: Also I have been getting spam calls every day about repairing my credit ever since I did a check on lending tree

H1 are typically the longer term (I think 6 years is the max length of the visa?)

Just checked...here you go...

http://www.h1base.com/content/compareworkvisas

H1B Visa - the primary US Work Visa for professionals & students from all over the world or in the USA, who work in specialty occupations. Valid up to 6 years, dual intent visa (can apply for Green Card)

H2B Visa - temporary visa for short term Seasonal work such as in the hospitality and tourist industries

Do you really think they are the same? I think the similarity ends at their persistent trolling. I thought RP was way more effective. HT sucks at it and is just annoying when he tries. But he also let's up sometimes. RP never seemed to let up. Every single post was some form of trolling.

I personally just think its two separate ass holes.

Trump defends foreign worker visas, siding with Musk amid MAGA backlash

President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday defended the visa program that allows highly skilled foreign workers to immigrate to the US, marking his first comments on an issue that has divided his supporters this week.

Trump said in an interview with The New York Post that he’s “a believer in H-1B,” referring to the visas granted to thousands of foreign workers who immigrate to the US to fill specialized jobs. In his first term, Trump restricted access to foreign worker visas, and he has previously criticized the program. But during the 2024 campaign, Trump signaled openness to giving some foreign-born workers legal status if they graduated from a US university.

“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump told The New York Post on Saturday.

“I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program,” he added.

Many of the workers at Trump properties, however, are granted visas through the separate H-2B program, which allows employers to bring foreign workers to the United States for temporary non-agricultural jobs such as landscaping and hospitality.

The Department of Labor posts detailed visa-worker data online going back to 2008. During that time, Trump’s businesses requested and received government approval to hire foreign laborers for more than 2,100 positions. About 70 of those positions were for high-skilled workers through the H-1B program. Most of the requests for H-1B workers were made more than a decade ago by companies such as Trump Model Management and Trump International Hotel and Tower in New York.

The last time a Trump company appears to have hired an H-1B visa worker was in 2022, when Trump Media & Technology Group Corp was approved to hire a data analyst.

Trump’s comments to the New York Post on Saturday mark the first time he’s weighed in on the H-1B issue since entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, whom Trump has tapped to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, defended the foreign worker visa program, igniting sharp criticism from MAGA loyalists hoping to restrict immigration.

Over several days this week, Musk has passionately defended H-1B visas in social media posts, arguing for their importance in allowing tech companies — including his own — to grow their businesses. In a post Friday, Musk said he will “go to war” to protect access to H-1B visas.

“The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B,” the tech mogul wrote. “I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.”

Musk, who was born in South Africa and obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother, came to the US as a foreign student and later worked on an H-1B visa.

Musk and Ramaswamy’s defense of foreign worker visas has been met with strong pushback from the anti-immigration supporters in Trump’s coalition. Former Trump aide Steve Bannon called H-1B visas a “scam” on an episode of his podcast Saturday, joining a vocal contingent of loyal Trump supporters that includes former Rep. Matt Gaetz and far-right provocateur Laura Loomer.

Trump has previously opposed the H-1B visa program as part of his platform to encourage US companies to prioritize American labor over hiring foreign workers. During his 2016 campaign, Trump accused US companies of using H-1B visas “for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay.”

Wonder why he changed his position?  :dunno:

Did you watch 60 minutes last night? As an I.T. professional, this issue is very personal. What do you think of the U.S. creating a "VISA" that allows U.S. workers to be displaced and having to train their direct replacements, typically from India and making significantly less money? Haven't heard any of you stick up for U.S. jobs, and this one particularly annoys me.

I fuckking hate the H1b system. I have watched it be abused by large staffing agencies who have SLED contracts and just push them into those roles. Every one of these roles could be filled with US candidates but here is the thing. Where US candidates will tell you the truth about their experience. H1bs ALL have 8 years of experience using ANY tech you want. Does not matter what it is. So their resumes always look better than a US citizen. They fake it till they make it or they will sometimes just farm out the work to their buddies in India.

They are easy to weed out during the interview process if you have someone that knows how to interview.

If you are interviewing for a remote role they will have their buddy baujeet do the phone screen for them. The person interviewing IS qualified. The person who does the job daily is learning on the job in Hydrabad. One time when everything was onsite I hired a person via skype and had to walk them onsite that day to meet the manager. He showed up and did not look anything like the guy I hired or the ID he was using. Not even the same skin tone.

How is that not an immediate termination?

Shittt I did not even let him get to the HM. I busted him out on the spot. He tried to lie but eventually came clean and told me about the scam and how it worked. It was predicated on the fact that people from the US can not tell the difference between indians and we are conditioned to not call people out for looking different.
