Kim Jong Il 3 Posted February 8, 2018 Original release (1987) · Re-release (1990) Her next pick. Is a re release ok or do I move to the next one? Yeah this is pretty much the same song isn't it? That's like cheating it seems to me. It's essentially the same a 'greatest hits' collection.
mobb_deep 920 Posted February 8, 2018 best Green Day song ever imo Never knew they had a best song. You learnt me something!

mobb_deep 920 Posted February 8, 2018 Meh nobody wants it anyway I dunno man. A lot of people in this fraft seem to be going off some sort of VH1 top 100 list. And based on that, I can see why they think the 90's were so weak.
RaiderHaters Revenge 4,248 Posted February 8, 2018 Never knew they had a best song. You learnt me something! I have never been a fan of Green Day myself, so its not very informed answer, but I did actually like that song, so imo its their best

Obvious music is subjective, and I don't want be all snobby... it's just Green Day is to me, as Nirvana is to SUX (he can't stand them). They're just the blandest, most formula driven, overproduced pop punk ever made.
jerryskids 6,597 Posted February 8, 2018 The Seattle area has a rich 90s grunge culture because it is cold, rainy, miserable... perfect for suicide. Phoenix on the other hand is sunny and happy, so our music scene has no angst. We did have this band though. This was their best known song, and has one of my favorite lyrics of all time: "If you don't expect too much of me, you might not be let down." 8.03 Hey Jealousy - Gin Blossoms

jerryskids 6,597 Posted February 8, 2018 best Green Day song ever imo Never got into it as every time I hear it I think they stole 25 or 6 to 4 from Chicago. In a much worse way.
Kim Jong Il 3 Posted February 8, 2018 For TEK and Sho, TBBOM's backup still works for this round but I've got another song up my sleeve to bounce the one I (Volty) sent you.

ZeroTolerance 584 Posted February 8, 2018 Never got into it as every time I hear it I think they stole 25 or 6 to 4 from Chicago. In a much worse way. :dunno Green Day used the chord progression that Chicago used in 25 or 6 to 4. Chicago used the chord progression that Zeppelin used in Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Zeppelin used the chord progression that George Harrison used in While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
jerryskids 6,597 Posted February 8, 2018 Good pick Jerry it was on my next 5 list Thanks. It has become clear that I am on a phase shift from a lot of you, so at this point I'm just picking off bands that represent my time in the decade.

Zeppelin used the chord progression that George Harrison used in While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Fair. I just read that on Wiki as well. Obviously there there are a finite number of chord progressions, so similarities exist. To me the feel of Brain Stew is more similar to Chicago, beyond just the chords. We can agree to disagree. For your viewing pleasure. Some NSFW words at the beginning.
ZeroTolerance 584 Posted February 8, 2018 I wasn't disagreeing, just pointing out that Chicago wasn't the originator of that riff.

It's all about when you grew up probably. I think the 90's were 100 times better than the 80's. But, I was in my late teens and early 20's during the 90's. Going to concerts all the time, etc. etc. I was a little kid for most of the 80's, so I was listening to NKOTB and crap.

I would absolutely agree with that when you grew up,hell I'm an old man but like to think I still have a good ear for music(sure it fits my tastes) but I'm always searching out new stuff(even if it's old) one of the reasons I'm checking out every song in this draft. My mrs (36C) will get in my Jeep and I'll have the newest Joe Bonamassa,Record Company,Greta Van Fleet etc. turned up and just shake her head,
ZeroTolerance 584 Posted February 8, 2018 Born first week of 81, my opinion on music by decade would go 70s > 60s = 90s > 80s > 00s.

vuduchile 1,945 Posted February 8, 2018 My problem with much of 90s rock is that it just isnt very musical to me. The overly fuzzed out constant hissing noise of the alternative sound is often annoying to me. Theres just no space for those songs to breathe. And although there are a few I like and will draft some here, Im also not a huge rap fan. The boy band craze was the final nail in the coffin.

Voltaire 5,207 Posted February 9, 2018 Bandsrus is up right? I was going to go to the hospital to visit my MiL again but wife changed her mind so I can update the thread in an hour or so and will be around all day. Sadly, Daino's absence is taking up prime picking time.
