I'm not personally a fan of the wall but presidents have run on much more expensive platforms (ACA, not-ready-for-production green techs, off the top of my head). They should just give him the damn wall and extract some quid pro quo for it. IMO.

From the Democrats perspective why would they do that? Trump has put 800,000 people out of work to get funding for a wall that most people dont want and he said Mexico would pay for. He is on record as taking responsibility for the shutdown and his reasons for the wall (terrorists, drugs etc.) are full of easily debunked lies. If the shutdown continues, most voters are most likely going to blame Trump and Senate Republicans for it. House Dems can just keep passing spending bill after spending bill, letting Trump and the Senate continue to hold federal workers hostage over his political stunt.
