Also ate like crap. No booze though including my wife's reunion which was surprisingly easy. Next challenge is opening game Wednesday at the Suns arena, yet another activity tied to drinking. Like Reality I had lost 6 pounds (176 to 170) which I attribute mostly to not drinking. I'm sure I gained much of it back but it will come off. I seemed to be plateauing around 170 which I'm happy with. Also I'm thinking of starting up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Gained a pound from this trip, not bad, I was expecting worse. Did a plateau run when we got home from the airport (33:15, best time yet, proud of myself for getting off my ass after an all day plane ride). Did HIIT this morning, may do some bonus abs later (plenty of chest in the HIIT workout).
jerryskids 6,969 Posted October 24, 2019 Anyone else still doing this? Did HIIT Tuesday, hot yoga yesterday, going to HIIT later this morning. Went to the Suns opening game yesterday (crushed the Kings, woohoo!). That was harder to stay sober than the reunion. I always have a beer or two that I nurse over the course of a live sporting event. And it didn't help that my son nursed two beers sitting right next to me (he is 23) so I could smell it. Nothing physical about it, just a habit. Anyway, I nursed my bottle of water. It made me think yet again that I need to decide where I'm going with this when the month is over. Had to rest the Achilles for the last few days so I stuck with crunches, and some kettle bell work the last 2 days. Still eating 2 meals per day, and one is a salad. Still probably drinking too much wine.

I think I mentioned but I'm plateauing around this weight, seems I can attribute 5-6 pounds to drinking every day (wine mostly). May do some eggs for lunch to mix it up.

I'm down 6 pounds, drank alcohol 2 days in the month of October.. I was off work last week, no way I was getting through that without drinking. I think I will watch the alcohol intake moving forward, try to get out of the routine of drinking as a habit. I don't drink through the week but, I could drink a case of beer over the weekend. Going to make a concerted effort to not do that any more. I also went to the gym every Saturday in October, I haven't done that in years, normally I go 3 days during the week. Not getting hammered on Friday frees up the Saturday morning for something productive. I'm 45, probably time to quit with that sort of silliness.

vuduchile 1,945 Posted October 31, 2019 Down 7 lbs since the first of Oct. Still drinking too much wine and minor nagging pains give me too many excuses not to push myself hard. Getting old sucks.

I think we can do today or tomorrow. I started at 239 Ended at 233 So I lost -6 lbs... which... meh.. I was hoping I'd do better. Though I'll take it. I jacked up my bicep in week 2... which in turn caused my shoulder to trick out as I think I was overcompensating. I lifted through it but man it really caused me some grief. Sleeping problems etc... Finally went away about 6 days ago. The last two weeks I was only able to get in 4 days a week. All in all I'm happy... and I feel like I'm more set in a pace to keep lifting. jerryskids 6,969 Posted November 1, 2019 October results: Weight: 10/1 = 176.4, 10/31 = 168.4, total loss = 8 lbs, 4.5% Exercise: 27 out of 31 days, all HIIT, hot yoga, or trail run. Some two-a-days with the pushups etc. in the first half of the month. Alcohol: [DeanWermer] Zero... point... zero... [/DeanWermer] Other: Drinking a lot more water. Eliminated diet pepsi, replaced morning coffee with matcha green tea, my only caffeine for the day (I was on a path to eliminate caffeine entirely but this tea is supposed to be hella good for you, and caffeine both reduces inflammation in places like your liver and encourages weight loss, so I think I'll keep it in the morning). Got an app and started daily meditation, so far ehh... but it's supposed to be great for you so I'll stick with it for a while. Got back into reading before bed; read at least 500 pages. Negative: I haven't been sleeping well. It appears my body was quite accustomed to me drinking every evening. I'm hoping eventually that it works out. The above meditation app has some sleeping courses which I'll try after the intro course. I am super tired at night and fall asleep quickly, but I wake up and can't get back to sleep. Summary: I'm extremely happy I did this; much thanks to mmmbeer for the challenge and to Reality for adding in the Sober October. I feel like my lifestyle has changed for the (very much) better. Also I've gotten a ton of complements on my improved body shape. Moving forward: I plan to keep up the (almost) daily workout. I plan to add in an evening stretching / roll-out routine this month. Also 1-2 days of heavier lifting per week. I think I'll push out jiu jitsu for a month or two. Also I want to get back into golf; my wrist was tweaked for most of this month but it seems good enough now. The bourbon-flavored elephant in the room is what to do with the drinking. I for sure am done with the daily drinking. Honestly it will be weird if and when I have that first drink. 1 1
t.j. booker 217 Posted November 1, 2019 On September 30 I weighed 313. Every day in October I got 20 minutes of exercise OR MORE according to mmmbeer’s challenge. I WALKED to Sonic. I WALKED to Carl’s Jr. I WALKED to Old Country Buffet. AND BACK. And then I added BONUS exercise when I “worked out” with a dumbbell, two or even THREE days a week. I weighed myself this morning and GUESS WHAT? I actually GAINED weight last month ... TWELVE POUNDS! Mmmbeer is a snake oil salesman and his “challenge” was all a big joke at my expense. Thanks a lot MMMBEER! I haven’t been this disappointed since I caught Gloria giving that valet boy a handy.

I'm gonna 'try' to save the advanced ( ) drinking for appropriate occasions but, I really love drinking several beers and watching a football game all by my damn self.. The key for me will be to have 2-3 instead of 8.. The matcha green tea thing is interesting, green tea is my only caffeine intake these days as well, not matcha though, I may have to check that out.. Never was a coffee drinker though.

I'm amazed at how much matcha powder is in them -- I keep adding hot water and stirring it, and the taste doesn't go down. I probably drank 64 ounces of tea today finishing my "cup." Also, still no alcohol. None planned tonight. We've got a friend coming to dinner tomorrow, she is visiting from Austin and she likes wine, I might have a glass, haven't decided. Intense Observer 344 Posted November 3, 2019 I probably gained 10 pounds in October, drinking 20-50 beers/wk, Whataburger 3x/wk, burritos 5x/wk, 4 activities for 17 miles on Strava for the month. Started getting a flutter/noticeable something in my outer left pectoral region Are you guys doing a November challenge? Goal for 11/3 until Thanksgiving is no alcohol, minimal carbs, no smoking, no weed gummies/carts, run 4 miles 4x/wk and 10-20 long run on weekend. Lose 10-20 pounds. 100+ push-ups daily. Thanksgiving trip to see family I haven't seen in 2 years and a 50k in AZ in December is the motivation. And not dying from heart disease at 40.
