I think also in play here is Washington may just not want to be there first hand when the dude goes down in a heap after his next shot to the head and he can't even walk off the field. 

And then have him half brain dead while still in the Redskin "family" for the rest of his life as the object of public scorn at the team for allowing him to get to that sad state of mental health.
