If I am understanding this right, some of you believe that we all face similar adversity and it doesn't matter what race we are.  Every race deals with the same problems and only those who can pull themselves up by their bootstraps will be successful.  If not, then I'm misunderstanding because that's what it sounds like.

The vast majority of adversities that people face have little to do with the color of their skin and more to do with choices, be it their own or those in their immediate family.  How one reacts to those adversities  is also a product of choices made by the same people

I love this argument. I grew up dirt ass, welfare poor. I went to the same sh1t school as the colored folks. 

I had the same if not less opportunities. They had plenty of scholarship/grant opportunities just because of the color of their skin. 

Some how I managed to finish college get a good job and am now doing better for my kids. 

If you are capable you can rise up. Or keep telling yourself you're the victim.

While the intentions of affirmative action were good I don't think the end result ended up working.  I agree that it gives them advantages over others.  What is it that I don't get yet?

That Straight White Males under 55 are the ones being legally discriminated against. The College I graduated from took Asians off the “preferred” list because they were kicking everyone’s butts. If Black America didn’t take advantage of that it is not my fault. 

BTW Check college enrollment if you think AA isn’t working.

I think it has a lot to do with their culture.  It has to do with where they came from.

Culture is usually passed down throughout one's family.  Also, not all Asians have been living here for generations.  There are plenty that have moved here in recent years that would bring their culture with them.

I don't have any agenda.  I just know that a lot of blacks born in the US have started at a disadvantage compared to a lot of other families.  I believe it to be true and you don't agree.  Looks like we're at a stalemate.

In fairness, only 3.5% of Iowa's population is black.  He doesn't have a lot of experience.

I know there are a good amount.  I just believe there are for more blacks in that situation than whites and I believe it's harder for a black person to dig themselves out of that hole compared to a white person.

That it is harder for poor Blacks to get ahead because 70% of them are raised without a father in the home. Don’t you think that makes a lot more sense than blaming discrimination?

I believe that you think the Major problem is discrimination because you think everyone is at least as racist as you are. Not mentioning discrimination in your original post proves that.

Yep. There is a line miles and miles long of destitute people from all over the world wanting to get in here.

Why?

Because they know they have the opportunity to be successful here.

And you know what? They usually are. Look at all the first and second generation immigrants who own businesses and make good lives here.
