So here's the thing. Doctor takes one look at me and says I have to go to the ER. Ambulance, yada yada. ER spend all day with me. They knew the minute they saw me I waS focked. 6 hours later, they get back to me.  all the fluid buildup in my body now is draining into my lungs. And my lungs can't fully inflate.

That's their call, not mine. Not my opinion. Meanwhile, they hear me coughing so violently, so they give me a vomit sock. 

Their solution? You're not going to die in the next 24 hours, so we recommend a few Specialists. Call them to schedule a procedure. Send me out to the 12 degree snow storm. 

 

 

Got a call this afternoon from one of those specialists. If they've actually read the report I'd be shocked. My appointment is scheduled for July 15th. No typo. 

I explained what was on the report. I told her to read the report and that at this rate,  I'd be dead long before July. 

"Uh, let me talk to the provider and someone will call you..."

 

Dammit.

They have to think it’s more than just the patient, customer to them, that is watching what’s happening. Having been through this nonsense with the system on a variety of different fronts has taught me you don’t go it alone. That’s why they always say to bring a family member along to the doctors for serious issues. I’m sure with what you have dealt with having your wife/ family involved was an asset, not just for your own support.  I believe when they see a guy with his wife or kids beside him they are apprehensive to blow people off

In my case, other than the probably fatal cancer part, I'm young and in good health, so I haven't really had that problem.  Hell, I'm their best kind of patient:  subject to expensive procedures for a long time.  I have however experienced what you describe with my mother.  She, like wiff, was on her last legs and the hospital acted like she was an annoyance.  I was very fortunate to have been there to advocate for her.

Haft see cardio Thurs, cause diuretics jack with heart. 

Not great, but beats July. 

And, she refuses to put a port in. Those damn things bleed, tear. And are infection magnets.

Why would you need a port?  I've never had it brought up so I haven't looked into it, but between chemo and a bazillion IVs my veins are sh1t.

My wife had a port installed.  For her it made sense as she had weekly chemo infusions along w the fact that her cocktail takes a toll on veins.

And yeah my veins were toast after all of my infusions and IVs.
