Parents of suspended UMass students: Punishment for off-campus maskless photo ‘complete overkill'

Recommended Posts

Jesus Christ I literally had to put that retard on ignore. Phone constantly buzzing and stopping my music at the gym. Figures a liberal wouldn’t have a job and be pestering people all day about insignificant bullsh1t cause they’re miserable with their own life

from the Fox News article even:

A university spokesman said in a statement sent to Fox News that "UMass Amherst does not comment on the details of specific disciplinary cases due to federal privacy law restrictions."

He, however, added that "expectations regarding students’ responsibility to follow public health protocols, and the consequences for failing to do so, were clearly communicated to students before and throughout the spring semester, and students were updated regularly as conditions changed."

He went on to point out that "more than 10 UMass Amherst students were suspended for participation at large and small gatherings on the weekend of March 6-7, when the campus was operating at Elevated Risk during the pandemic and had just emerged from severe High Risk restrictions due to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases."

You think he would throw that last tidbit in there when this specific case has nothing to do with it?   Yeah, OK...

I used to love going to the gym in the middle of the day. Nobody there but a handful of old people, every machine open.

I miss the gym. :(

I get my second Pfizer shot next week and will rejoin then. Last year+ it’s been outdoor walking / jogging and whatever I can do with my unimpressive dumbbell setup at home.

I didn’t realize HOW expensive focking dumbbells were. Like $50-$60 for 20s. Cause I was going to buy some but fock that. Ill have mortgage and rent to be paying soon so I wanted to have some weights at my apartment but fock that. I’ll just go to the gym

Usually $1/pound is typical. There was a severe shortage of equipment early in Covid and prices spiked to 2-3 times that amount.

I found a nice old timer on Craigslist who sold me a set of 30-lbs for $60 and filled in piecemeal from there.

Sorry I don’t know the backstory of every poster here.  So you’re in your 20’s and posting on a low-rent FF message board that’s likely mostly occupied by people 35+ and lecturing people about being “cool”?  OK then..

Also, I WFH (and did pre covid).

I know a lot of Dem governors assisted in killing nursing home residents.  However most of that occurred early on in the pandemic.  What I’m referencing occurred in the fall.

2 fatalities documented, in assisted living centers, during covid, from possible college age transmission.  Sounds real scientific.  Quit blaming kids.

The samples were only collected through 9/23.  Wisconsin daily case counts tripled from that point in less than 2 months, and deaths rose even faster.

Ok... what if the girls were black?  Would that punishment still have come down?  I'm betting the answer would be no.  If I'm those parents and girls, I'd be ALL OVER social media stalking every student at that school and finding all of the kids who did the same thing.

Find pics of the administrators out maskless. Checkmate.

Right, any competent lawyer is going to have a field day with this case.

Imagine your mom and dad suing your school for enforcing a policy you knowingly violated.

No wonder kids today are such precocious snowflake losers.

Yeah this seems like a clear example of a "Karen," yet most here think "a competent lawyer will have a field day with this"

One would think....but time and again accountability is dependent on political ideology.

The severity of the punishment is the issue, not that they got punished.

Imagine a school suspending you for a violation that said school also committed.

Yep. Can’t tell Libs that though. It’s always “do as I say not as I do”. I feel like I’m back listening to leadership in the military

Yeah, can't take final exams, lose whole semester and the costs of it, and can reapply next year.

If that is not criminal, I don't know what is.

Do you think the parents would be happy if their kids' punishment stuck but they also added punishments to the hockey team and/or people that attended their celebration?

Do you think the hockey team did everything on their own without the school's permission?

Is this a "parade"?  It's the bus returning with a police escort with the band playing while standing on the side of the road.

The majority of the people were at least wearing masks, albeit often not correctly.  Sure, not everyone was social distanced, but again the campus was at a lower risk level than when the girls' photo was taken.   Honestly though I doubt the girls would have gotten in trouble if someone hadn't specifically reported them.

Here is the details of the hockey event from the school btw - https://umassamherst.campuslabs.com/engage/event/7063881

All attendees must be masked, in compliance with the campus “green check” system and socially distanced throughout this event. Space is limited, so RSVP now!

Yup, the parade that was illegal based on Massachusetts law.  Yes, where people... including players, we're either not wearing masks or incorrectly (and worthless), wearing them.  Which also violated school policy.  Yes, that parade.  That the school "ok'd".  The one that was illegal.  Which no one was punished for.

And yet, you and me see nothing wrong with either event.  Easy to spot the hypocrites these days.

Well I'm sure there was something else "illegal" about the St. Patty's day party given that the girls are freshmen...

Speaking of, it kinda looks like the girl in the dark pants is holding a drink that was photoshopped out or something...

Man, this is going to get ugly for the school. Blatant hypocrisy.

Probably negotiating the payout as we speak.

If the d1ldo don't fit you must acquit!

Edit: today I learned that the word "dïldo" is on the censor list.

Looks like the school has at least somewhat addressed the hockey stuff:

https://www.wwlp.com/news/local-news/hampshire-county/more-than-10-umass-amherst-students-suspended-for-allegedly-violating-covid-19-protocol/

“UMass Amherst does not comment on the details of specific disciplinary cases due to federal privacy law restrictions. Review of student behavior cases at UMass Amherst are adjudicated through the Code of Student Conduct in which evidence is considered, students and witnesses are interviewed, and students have the right to appeal. Sanctions are determined based on the severity of the infraction, and the range includes a reprimand, probation, removal from housing, and suspension. Of the more than 1,000 cases adjudicated in the spring, no student was suspended for merely not wearing a mask.

More than 10 UMass Amherst students were suspended for participation at large and small gatherings on the weekend of March 6-7, when the campus was operating at Elevated Risk during the pandemic and had just emerged from severe High-Risk restrictions due to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases.

Expectations regarding students’ responsibility to follow public health protocols, and the consequences for failing to do so, were clearly communicated to students before and throughout the spring semester, and students were updated regularly as conditions changed.

It is regrettable that UMass hockey players appeared unmasked as they returned on their bus from the NCAA championship tournament to campus. However, this event occurred later in the semester when COVID-19 positivity rates were much lower. The university’s operating posture had been lowered to Guarded and previous severe campus restrictions had been lifted. Most of the supporters gathered to welcome the team were wearing masks.”

Like everything liberals do, it’s overkill. A slap on the wrist and a warning would have sufficed. But they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stick it to some privileged white kids.
